OK. Around 20 June or it may have been 21 June I ordered a turbo blanket and see that the company are based in New Zealand. From a note I have received regards customs charges I expect the turbo blanket to be delivered tomorrow. After I have received it and examined I will post on here further, certainly by Tuesday.

A medium size turbo blanket was ordered 19 June and payment of 108$ AU was sent. This worked out at £65.03. Monday 19 July I received the turbo blanket and customs charges of almost £13.00.
The turbo blanket came with one metal band strap and the photographs show the turbo blanket with a VF35 turbo.
For anything larger than a VF35 or 18G I think you would need to order the larger size but all sizes are the same price $95 AUD.
I havn't fitted this to a turbo on the car yet but it should be relatively quick and it may be necessary to have a bit of tie wire in addition to the strap supplied to secure the bottom lugs.
The complication I see with a group buy here is that the vendor will reduce the price by $5 and waive carriage but he expects to deliver to one address only and wants paid up front for 10 minimum of the agreed sizes. The carriage was $13 but there is customs to add at around £13 but the actual amount won't be known until the delivery is received and there will be UK Recorded post for the sub delivery plus a Jiff bag. Therefore the real savings are not particularly great.
Let me have your feedback.

My first question is do you think they are worth the money? Other than that it has taken around 4 weeks to arrive which to me seems an age. I ordered some parts from the good ol' US of A and they arrived in a couple of days. Add on top of that the fact that there are very little savings to be had it may not be worth your while doing this.

Thanks for putting in the work you have.

I also asked a supplier in the USA to give me a price for a batch of 10 or 20 and as I sell 18G billet and 20G turbos amongst others, I thought there was the possibility of carrying a few heatblankets in stock. Despite several requests the price from the USA has not been forthcoming so I guess they are not interested.
Without trying the blanket recieved I have no idea how it will perform but I have no reason to believe it will not be satisfactory. Whether after fitting and getting to high temperatures it will be OK to reuse I do not know but if it is reuseable then that has to be a big plus.
Fitting will will not be a two minute job as you will need to pull the securing eyes together under the turbo which is a confined area and any existing heat shield will have to be removed.
I have no immediate plans to try this blanket simply because all my cars already have the turbos wrapped, (even the Vectra deisle, ) but if anyone wants this blanket to conduct trials with for what I paid plus UK postage they are welcome to it. It would be good if they are in an area close to here or somewhere I go regularly as I would measure the heat insulation properties after it had been used for a bit.

I agree with the comments above from Tazman. The savings are small and it is a bit messy with differing sizes, approximate but unknown customs charges, UK postage once the bulk order is received and possibly in the order of a month to take delivery by which time some guys will have lost interest, seen something else etc.
I am however prepared to proceed with a group buy if there are enough people interested.

To put the above into perspective, I already use turbo blankets and supply odd guys on here. They consist of a sheet of thermal insulation, same material as 2" wide DEI exhaust wrap but much bigger being 6" wide, a small roll of exhaust wrap 25 foot, tie wire and straps and a sheet of silver heat blanket. To fit this takes about an hour first time. The heat shield if fitted needs to be removed but can be refitted, you need to be able to read the instructions and have a pair of scissors, stanley knife and pliers.
Single kit is £55 and a double kit which can do two turbos with material left over is £85, plus postage £6.50. Alternatively we will wrap a turbo for £85 all in.

Just let me have feedback on the above and see where we go with this.

Thanks for testing this out for us Harvey.

I've been having a look around whilst waiting for your results and bumped into the ones that CDF Racing supply. Have you tried these at all?

I have e-mailed Chris. I did not contact him previously because when I wanted a couple of turbo blankeys in the past he had no stock.
I will post the feedback when received.

Hi Chris,
In the past you were supplying heat blankets for turbos.
Do you still stock these and if so what is available.
Regards,
Harvey.

We do yes but don't keep many any more

We have two types.
Gray/Black 1200℃; Silver 500℃

I have one sliver 500c in stock

Regards

Harvey,

I did send you a second email today,... we don't keep many stock because we wasn't selling many.. The only one I have in stock was meant for my build..
we can get more in pretty quick, if you want to look at some.
Our new ones are very good and actually come with attachments and spring to pull them together, I can post up a picture of my one that is wrapped around my td05 20g if you like?

On another note... I do need to speak to about some new headers and maybe a fmic for my car

Cheers

Chris: Just put up pictures and prices for large, medium and small and you can get a group buy going. I am sure there is interest for 10 minimum subject to price and performance so base it on that and I could probably take two or three.
Just give me a ring when you want. 07860 302020

Christ Harvey, is that off a truck?

Chris, quite interested. A rough price would be good. I'm sure we could get enough interest for 10 at least.

Remember the jacket goes round the exhaust and not the compressor which should be open to ambient conditions.
I am interested in one to try and subject to that would probably want several but are they all one size or are there options?

No no a truck turbo. It might go on a 6.4 litre V12 but there again I already have the exhaust section for a 7.5 litre V8.
