i have seen one done in the style of a cross using the word mum bit like this

but the word mum was encased in a old english style cross with the word mum in old english was quite tastefull imho

 

Just a thought but how about something symbolic of a memory you shared. Or if there is nothing fitting like that, just something that will make you think of her.
I have a lilly in a tattoo for my mum. Its a part of a combination tattoo that pays tribute to people and times in my life, but thats what I mean by symbolic representation.

Just as a thought, you mention wine, daft as it might sound, but how about something wine related with a scene of something like a label with the wine year being her year of birth.
Get creative with your mind. Tie a few related things together, and see if a tattoo artist can think of something.
