Hmm nice car and all, if I had won the lottery then yes Id have one plus a whole garage full of other overpriced exotica, but at 50k in the real world obviously this guy has some cash to burn. I remember evo 9 fq400's at high £40k new and people just said how fast they were, yea we know its a lot of money but it is what it is and if he can afford it why not I would.

The CS400 has the highest power output of any car sold by Subaru.
Why Tony won't just accept that at least I can't imagine.
I'm at a loss to explain what his motives are in running it down. I think we should be giving them credit for having a crack at the sort of car we're supposed to love, considering there's a recession on.

Congratulations to the OP as he has purchased one of the most limited Impreza's ever. ![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
If I were in a position to purchase one myself then I would certainly would have ordered one, regardless of the argument about VFM it is what the OP wanted and he went out and ordered one.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
If we all wanted VFM cars would be all actually be driving Impreza's?![Ponder2](images/smilies/ponder2.gif)
They can be expensive when they go wrong, the day to day running costs are not exactly cheap and they return poor MPG to say the least. We drive Impreza's because we like them and to a certain extent we turn a blind eye to their inherent faults and 'quirks'.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Well done to the OP and I hope that the CS400 is everything you want and more.

I hope you enjoy the new scoob.
My friend works with cosworth and states it's a scarily fast car.
The 0-62 time of 3.7 is very conservative - he said with the weight load trimmed down, was getting closer to 3.3.
I'm hopefully going out to a track day with one (as a passenger I hasten to add). Really looking forward to it.
He also hinted that their *might* be another production run of 500 less special ones. You all know what that means

Ermmm... Actually Tony you did say it was a pathetic attempt at a peformance car! From your post on 12 Jun at 15:04...
"If that is what you think then you have no idea. It's not good vfm, it's 10k too much, the warranty, well go buy a car with a 36k/3year warranty, you won't find any other company that offers such a pathetic attempt on a performance car, you won't find one, and again I will state that Prodrive offered a similar package 2 Years ago for 10k less."
Don't shoot the messenger, but when it comes to ranting about people not checking their facts the phase 'glass houses' and 'stone' springs to mind mate!

all i can say to the fact is that if the recent press is to be believed, i'll be buying a mini cooper s next as porsche are to scared to race it and as tony is pushing that the porsche is better than the cossie, then the mini will eat it for breakfast.

Have to argue that point Alan
you could say that the highest output on a new subaru would be the T25, just not sold by subaru UK, but has a better warranty and is cheaper
and as its not a factory car, modified outside and loses its subaru japan warranty (I believe the warranties are covered by subaru japan themselves now), it sort of negates the issue a little.
Still my point is, far too expensive, far too poor a warranty offered.

If you don't want one dude, don't buy one, and certainly don't denigrate somebody else who has the right to spend cash on whatever they like.
These are all toys after all, who gives a monkeys about the cost?
What do you do when Top Gear's on? throw Tofu at the telly?

likee cs400 very much but at almost double an STI w/ free 330r , it just doesn't compute
plus in some tough peer group at £50k, noteably GTR
sure it will be great though, if very heart rather than head

Good luck to OP - if you want it and can afford the finance, just do it.

If it was sat on mat black 19" ADVAN RS alloys (with rolled arches) and lowered another 10mm then I'd sell my granny for one (what's another £3k on top of £50k
)
Alas I haven't got the 3k let alone the extra 50![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
PS
22 years old and a CS400..... you really must pay your mum diddly swat to squat at her place! Shouldn't you be saving for a new house deposit?

Personally I see all sides heres
For me if you want it and you can afford it then get one if you can.
But for me I'd want something which gave me more value for money and just as important, a warranty than 36K miles
Anyway - good luck to the OP.
Be sure to review the car for us after you get it.
Cheers,
Shaun

Well I'll have it paid off in 4 years, and will put it onto house then, but in that point I shall own the car outright, meaning no monthly payments etc for it and that extra money can go onto being in debt for another 20 odd years on a mortgage

I just dont see why this whole 36k mile warranty is such a big issue. there are plenty of decent clock doctors out there who will make sure you get your full 3 year warranty out of them.

BUT
IMHO Tony is right on this one:
1) 50k is way too much for a Subaru; it completely defeats the point of the car
2) It may be the most powerful "factory endorsed" Subaru available, but it's not powerful enough to warrant getting one over a Type 25 in terms of performance, as opposed to the special edition cred.
3) The warranty is poor!
Like I said, I'm still glad the project is happening and it'll hopefully cast a much needed halo effect on the std STis. I still can't help but feel that Subaru should get invest it's time and money making the std car the class leader for affordable performance motoring again, and not rely on an uber expensive special edition, available to only a few, to raise the bar.
Ns04
PS Let's keep things friendly please: there's no need for the insults - it's just a car!

FYI Evo have given the CS400 3.5/5.0 and the RS500 5.0/5.0
Main problem is the usual "light, lifeless steering...numb and slow witted"
"Important point of contact between car and drive, that the RS500 simply murders the Impreza Cosworth."
Big shame.

You'd think they'd have rectified the power steering weight after the STI's bad reports... simple mod a la Iain though...

Yep.
Must be the combination of the thinner cosworth panel filter and the higher boost, but it's quite audible in the car when you nail it now.
