also when you look at the subaru, they weren't aiming it at the gt-r and porkers, it was the top end evo which is slower and if my mind serves me correctly, £5grand more. plus you've got a fully forged engine and an already fettled car that as alan has said can go on to very good power levels, plus in my opinion you won't get looked at like a middle aged balding man having a mid life crisis, trying to pick up young birds like you would in a porsche.
If you buy a Porsche 997 turbo/gt2/gt3 then its for a reason, the turbo is a fantastic car easily outputs more than its quoted 480bhp, its luxury/performance and handling all in one, now if you think its there for pulling young birds, think thats a subaru is it not? thats why most young lads buy them, most people who buy porsches do it as they are upgrading, not going on the pull

If you wish to retain your warranty then I would not take it to a track, subaru are notorious for cancelling warranties without their owners knowing due to them taking it on a track day/timed event day and then the owner only finding out when they come to make a claim.
Oh and to those who think Porsche servicing is expensive, its all fixed price, a major on a 997 turbo is similar to that of a major (everything) on a subaru STI, though the GT2/3 are a 350 quid more at 1k..

Yes im a mere 41 but I have never bought a car to "pick birds up" with
Go ask a woman what a cosworth is, she will probably think its some breed of dog
As for cars, I buy what I want, but always strive for better, I have a classic Pug 306 S16 which is (still) in the middle of a revamp, and if I were to go on a date, I would turn up in something sensible rather than overly sporty

Tony,
Please go an buy a Porsche then and go onto Porsche Club GB and you can preach to the converted about how good they are rather than trying to spoil this lads euphoria of picking up a fairly bespoke point to point monster.
Quick question for you on a practicality matter (and to reaffirm the fact you are in a different ball park!)
If you get a rear puncture on your 997 (insert fast suffix), what do you do with the wheel after you have fitted your space saver
... I wonder how much interest the 997's would get more than the CS if he turned up somewhere with general enthusiasts? The ring/trax/time attack???
Again, good luck buddy and enjoy...

But you are missing the point completely, 50k gets you something exotic or it gets you an Impreza.... 40k for an Impreza was steep (see 22b) but atleast they were all hand built at the factory and hold their value and since then, EVERY other "special" edition model has never held its value, then there is the warranty issue, 36k miles, not allowed to take the car on the track (hey Porsche let you, they even have training days ), the service intervals have not been set yet (that could be a bit of a shock to the owners ) and basically, its still an Impreza (and im on number 4 now, probably have a number 5 down the line too ) sorry to say, its an IM rip off when Prodrive offered 2 years ago, a similar package for 10k less.
Now go figure.

Missing the point??? the guy has made a choice, informed or not, and bought a very expensive Scoob...
If he worried about warranty/depreciation/servicing/22b's/P1's/RS500 Sierras/Handbuilt Morgans+++ he has bought the wrong car.
I love motorsport trinketed/homologation specials and would rather have something like the CS, Evo 6.5, Prodrive bug (i know!), mk1 Focus RS, RS1800 (Mk2 ), RS1600i over any Porsche or other coupe, 350Z, GTR ++.. not my image.
erm 50k???... 6R4 perhaps!
The point is surely that he has bought his car and wants people to be chuffed for him??
Well I am....

IM will be covering the warranties I take it? just ask those 2.5ltr STI Hatch owners how much they squirm to get out of any claims, IM have not been very good in the past on claims, actually IM have not been very good full stop, atleast other manufacturers will warranty a product thats focused on motorsport when you take them to organised events like track days

Yep, IM have certainly turned out to be a pain in complete contrast to the Top Gear JD Power survey days (top if IIRC)
BUT, he has made his choice!
...where do you want to go with this? people stop buying Subaru?
I hope the 2011 models are a big improvement, if they are, the CS will be worth even less!
...but If I had the money, I'd have a CS, and trade it in next year.... in fact, I would take on track, thrash it to death, not care about warranty, if it blows - get it rebuilt again by AJ/API/RCM..
It would be my decision... and I would take great pleasure in coming on here to tell the trolls what I had done!!
... only 6 numbers away!

I was only 3 numbers or £49990 away from it on wednesday
The point still is, 50k, sh1te warrany, bad back up from IM, and your falling into decent supercar territory.
Yes the OP has made his choice, I think badly (hence why I buy the JDM cars now and not the Uk spec ones ) but it is his money, I personally (and probably) would spend it on something better

Subaru of America are the only ones getting any good results.
But back to the OP. I and many others have said before, Iain Litchfield as been building Subaru's with Cosworth engine parts for ages. The Hatch Type 20 now looks a bargain and once more, how many JDM 2.0l's have gone bang?
Did he get a delivery date? It was June, then July, I reckon August if your lucky.

They are saying in the bbc business news that japans incomings are half that of its outgoings, they are also on a belt tightening exercise.

If I just wanted a bargain go fast Scooby, I'd start with an 02 Bugeye STi. cheap as chips and an easy car to tune. If I was spending more, I'd have a Hatch and enjoy the upmarket nature of it, The CS400 would naturally be at the top of my list. Believe me, I've driven these a lot, and they are very good cars indeed.

At the end of the day, how many of us bought our Scoobies (or any car for that matter) first hand? I know I didn't.
If it wasn't for people like Lazadude taking the plunge and putting their trust (and hard-earned cash) into their enthusiasms then the rest of us would be driving around in used Polo diesels and this forum wouldn't exist! Admittedly, I'd have gone for a mint Hawkeye Spec C RA-R and pocketted the change, but to each their own eh?
Besides, the CS400 has managed something I never thought would be possible - it's made me look at a Hatch Scooby with lust instead of disgust. No small achievement, believe you me!

If that is what you think then you have no idea. It's not good vfm, it's 10k too much, the warranty, well go buy a car with a 36k/3year warranty, you won't find any other company that offers such a pathetic attempt on a performance car, you won't find one, and again I will state that Prodrive offered a similar package 2 Years ago for 10k less.

The CS400 has the highest power output of any car sold by Subaru.
Why Tony won't just accept that at least I can't imagine.
I'm at a loss to explain what his motives are in running it down. I think we should be giving them credit for having a crack at the sort of car we're supposed to love, considering there's a recession on.
