I guess that's it. The iPhone is now the best spec'd phone as well as having the best operating system and interactivity. I doubt the physical specs will stay on top for long, but there's no chance the other two can be toppled, not with todays advancements.
My favourites, the Gyroscope and class leading battery life, I'll be recording GPS and Spatial position, listening to the iPod and taking calls whilst flying acrobatics on my Paraglider. Maybe I'll record, edit and upload a video at the same time.

I trhink now pricing will dictate this phone as anything it did before everyone has now. Android is just as capable as the iphone OS so they really have to up thier game now to get sales or it will just be the same sad old people buying the phones and it will end up like windows moblie

Meh. Unimpressed to be honest. (and that's coming from an Apple user).
Might have to wait for iphone 5 instead.
I mean, WOW. A gyroscope and Farmville. And video calling between people who have the same phone.
A very friendly OS let down by a load of uninspiring hardware. Sums Apple up really.

"we're tech and humanity" mmm, no your a technology company mate.
It looks ok. Still very similar to the old ones in looks though i feel. Looks like it could be a nice phone but with everything i'll wait until i see it in the flesh before i make a decision on it.
Trouble is, when we get them in stock i will play with one, compare it to a desire, if i prefere it then i might think to upgrade to it (that is if it's free, If i have to pay i'll go and buy a new iPod touch and get a desire) but the trouble is, within a month absolutely everyone will have one and then i will become bored of it bery quickly.
I've seen that it will be available from the 24th of june, at $199 and $299, i don't know of the UK prices yet, but who would happily pay that for a phone? i think it's madness really when you can get something so similar for free.

Can anyone tell me what the gyroscope will be able to do that the accelerometer cannot?

I'll only upgrade this way if the PAYG model is around £450.
I'll get around £300 for my 3GS so cost to upgrade of around £150.
How can it be had for free, even starting a new contract it's not free.

I use my 3GS everyday:
Reading and sending mails
Listening to music in the car to work
Setting reminders in the family calendar (synced online via MobileMe)
Currently has 5000+ pictures stored on it
Also using it to read Treasure Island using Kobo (free plug Markus ) whilst having a poo
Facebook, E-Bay, Sky News
Surfing Scoobynet plus loads of other sites
Keeping an eye on stock prices
It also acts as my Sat Nav unit
Playing the odd game
Texting
oh yeah and I also use it as a phone occasionaly!!!
For a device that is so useful and for something I use constantly every day, how does that make me a homo??
I looked at all the other phones and they didn't suit my needs like the iPhone does.

Lots of Apple users and Apple are like heroin users and dealers, they think they're getting an amazing product when the dealer is just milking them for as much money as possible yet they can't help themselves.

I have always been wary of anything that was called IIIIII ie Itunes,Ipod, makes the product sound wounderful.Phone makers will only give you 90% of what you really want, keeps your tongues out for more apps,of which you will use less than visits to your gym that cost you a fortune

The New iPhone will probably be free on some tarrifs after the initial hype calms down.
(before i say this i'm not having a dig i'm just asking to get my own facts straight) Is there anything the new iPhone can do for you that the old one can't?

Wasn't anything revolutionary, suppose the camera is a improvement if anything. I think the new OS should be worth looking at, perhaps even sticking with the 3GS - mulitasking will be a god send.

Watched the video that apple have posted, the phone looks good, certainly the screen is an improvement. I'm not sure if it's worth changing my 3gs for yet but I was skeptical about the ipad, till I had a play on one & I'm very impressed with it - not enough to part with my cash but impressed never the less.
Apple will sell them by the bucket load....
I am looking forward to OS4, hopefully it will be as good as the keynote makes out.

Device looks nice. Shame Canada won't get it at launch, probably due to Rogers not wishing to give users a good deal, seems Ted is still in control from the grave
Price isn't too bad either. I sniggered at the iBooks upgrades. Bookmarks and place synching across devices, pay for a book and have it on multiple devices. Wow, I wonder what other company might have had a service like that for some time
FaceTime = a bit of a joke. Now, the demo with two people using sign language, that is rather nifty, but on the whole it's a feature that is a gimmick. Oh, and no wonder it's Wi-fi only at present AT&T has enough trouble with data on the iPhone at present, throw that onto 3G and it'll bring it to the ground.
I did cringe when Zynga came on stage, sorry, but Farmville in a keynote, please. Am curious about how they would handle the credit system though, I can bet it won't be in-app as they'd have to give a cut to Apple due to in-app purchases and I can see Zynga doing that.

Some of the comments on here and elsewhere are brilliant... It's a phone, a pretty middle of the road one to boot, but you wouldn't know it - it's like the 2nd coming of Christ. With a gyroscope.
Wow, video calling! Welcome to 2007 Apple!
Smallest screen in its class, no AMOLED, no Flash (lol), most expensive in its class, no expansion, locked in, has some nice features though, but I mean, meh. Oh, and you better like it, because it'll be the same for the next two years.

Come on! its was 2005 not 2007!
All you need is to be logged in to a wifi network and find someone with the same phone logged in to a wifi network as well so you can broadcast that special moment!
The chances of my mum/dad/sister ever being able to do that is almost zero!
Looks like apple are on the back foot, HTC already released a better spec phone a few months ago and it looks like it will be advert city on iphone 4 (and to think about a month ago some iphone users were saying how rubbish android was because it had mobile ads on some of the free android apps)
oh how the tables have turned!

Interesting reading I have to say. But judging from Facebook many people I know will be spending their hard earned cash regardless of what it can and cant do, but more based on the "4" ion the name. Each to their own I guess.
Interesting to see the "re-invention" of video calling, just like the previous re-invention of MMS.
Not even watched the video yet tbh lol, but still not my thing as its a touchscreen.
Im sure it will be a MASSIVE success and make Apple even bigger and richer. Well done Apple.

Because in your own words you can do everything you need from your current iphone, but you're willing to spend a pointless amount of money and effort to get the latest phone without even trying it or waiting for any kind of review, even after seeing how well the announcement went

To be perfectly honest you're right, I don't need this phone, my 3GS is perfectly acceptable for what I use it for, however, I'll go into the Apple store and take a look when it's released.
If I like it then I'll probably buy it. Why??
Because I can afford it, don't mean that to sound obnoxious in any way, I know people who go out Friday and Saturday night every week and spend £70 a night, that's how they choose to spend their hard earned.
Like I said, if the upgrade costs me around £150 (2.5 nights out?) then I may well do it, but if it doesn't seem worth it then I won't, I'm not a complete apple sheep (not totally anyway).
So you're correct - I don't need it, but I may want it.
tathan - the phone will not be the same for the next 2 years, they're on a 12 month cycle so a new release will come next year. Which is my second option, my contract runs out next year so if it's not worth the upgrade I'll wait for 5.

i will be upgrading from my 3G
And am looking forward to it.
As a multi mac user (3 of 'em) and a me.com email subscriber it makes more sense for me to stay with iphone than some of you i would imagine... and I have 100+ apps I have paid between free, 59p and a fiver for.
froyo 2.2 seems to be more than a match for iOS4 and HTC hardware seems to get better each week
for me, it's a no brainer
already registered with O2 for launch day.
