I'm with o2 and find it shocking they've not released prices. As the only way I'll be getting one is using their early upgrade offer.

Looking at orange price it does seem a little steep what price they're wanting for one

i have to admit i am appalled with the uk operators not managing our expectations; apple's site now says "shipping: from July 2".

If that means there'll be no release day iphones from o2 online, i'll be very disappointed.

Anyone called O2, 202 on your phone should do the trick.

I can't get one right away, just too large a penalty, but I can understand everyone's urge to get their hands on the device first day, I don't quite understand camping out, but hey.

Can you buy an unlocked phone from Apple, it would be a first in the UK.

That's awesome if it's correct. I have a feeling the phone will only activate with an Apple approved service provider, but I do hope I'm wrong. Instant cash to be made there shipping to the US.

It's this bit that worries me "iPhone 3GS works with SIM cards and iPhone 4 works with micro-SIM cards from compatible carriers"

Looks like Canada will be getting unlocked phones now too. Prices will be nuts though, I'm reckoning on CAD$899 - 999 for the 32GB, which is a shedload. No mention from the carriers as to what their PAYG plans will be, obviously not as attractive as their contracts.

I wonder why no mention of unlocked phones was made at the keynote? I'd have thought it would be a very big deal. Perhaps because unlike the iPad it's not a) a global thing, and b) carriers do not have to unlock the phone and won't be selling unlocked ones. Shame, I was hoping Apple would mandate that iPhone 4 was to be unlocked.

Obviously the phones will be cheaper with a contract. I wonder if Rogers will be like O2 and unlock the phone at the end of the contract, somehow I doubt this. I will be investigating wether I'm eligible for an upgrade and if so, how much the new phone will cost and if I can take the features from my current contract to the new one. Also interested to see if they are sticking to the three year contract too.

I will also speak to the retentions department and ask what deal they will give me to prevent me from leaving and going with a competitor. As other carriers here now have the iPhone they are more likely to want to keep my custom.

As for microsim's, I believe you can chop your existing sim down to a micro one. the contact positions for full vs micro are the same. The chip on a sim is very small, most of the sim is just plastic. I'm pretty sure carriers will provide you with a micro-sim if you are upgrading, possibly for free, or more likely a minimal fee.

Sounds good to me too, my current contract has 9 months to go. Might have to test my wallet flexing skills.

It's be stated that there were 600,000 pre-orders of iPhone 4. They simply did not expect demand to be that great. They probably based this on the fact the 3GS didn't pre-order like wildfire. That might be due to it not being that different to the 3G, and thus people held off for the iPhone 4.

O2 stores would, I suspect, have some stock for walk-ins, same as Apple stores, but it will be limited and you'll have to do your supergeek impression and camp outside to be first in line to get one.

Yes me too. Frankly I am ****ed off with the way they and Vodafone have not given anything away yet. because believe you me, if 02 come out with some crap prices a day before the launch, then I am going to jump ship. No loyalty from them in the past so they get the same treatment back.

Anyway with the shipping dates on buy outright iphones 4 now at 12-14th July, I am guessing that 02 will have **** all stock anyway

Bravo, certainly sounds like a good deal in the grand scheme of things.

Some very strange goings on out there with the networks being shady about their pricing etc, im sure there is a hidden adgenda there somewhere, but only time is gonna tell.
Almost get the impression that some of the networks WANT customers to jump ship, and then just cream it with the number of people with 6 months still left on their contracts to run. 6-12 months of contract monies coming in, but no need for a service going out.

you getting twitchy and tempted now Jack? lol, I knew you would buckle eventually

I am Snazy, I'm stuck between an iPad - the urge gets stronger every time I use one - the new iPhone although my 3GS is till the best device on the market right now and a new Paraglider. I'm off giving my old wing another chance next week, my current iPhone will be great, but extra battery life is always good and I'll be wishing I had an iPad as my Macbook is too bulky to take.

Where will my fun money go, I'm away from home for two weeks, something will be ordered on my return.

Ta daaaaa

I hear ya Jack. Personally I would be more inclined to go with the Pad, just because it has different uses. Not convinced that there is enough change between the 3 and 4 to warrant any cost, if those funds could go towards a different device all together.

Not that I have looked too closely, but is there actually a difference between the carriers this time? Has the deadlock gone now?
