Yeah. If you overtighten it the usual consequence is cracking the plastic body (or stressing it so much it cracks shortly after), which can lead to an early demise for the new sensor. I usually machine the bolt head back a little bit so it can only bear against the metal centre core and can't touch the plastic at all - eliminates the crack risk even if tightened down a bit overzealously.

Ha! As it was an important sensor, i ordered mine from subaru (they proper pulled my pants down mate £103)

http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/ sell genuine sensors at a fair bit less than the above KBM, so sounds like you're sorted!
