Sorry I didn't post the torque figs m8, it's the Vecs ace up it's sleeve, torque is easy gained on them, although once over 480 clutch upgrade is an absolute must, and the gearbox is still be tested to see if it can handle it.

Its true that the hot-hatch brigade have been evolving at a phenominal pace and now they are challenging the next level up (Scoobys/Evos etc). But as mentioned the VXR the OP got beaten by definately couldn't have been standard.

A mate at Uni has got a black 06 Astra VXR and its a nice car. My old Accord Type R was on a level playing field up to around three figures, then his car's extra muscle would reign supreme. Now my STi PPP is far quicker in any situation (both standard) but as mentioned with places such as Courtenay Sport offering some serious tuning upgrades its no surprise to see plenty running bigger BHP, which is almost certainly what the OP with the STi Type R ran into. A standard VXR wouldn't have had a chance unless there was something wrong with the scoob.

And I love how those VXR boys on the other forum have all jumped on the bandwagon with the "ohh yeah now we're scooby hunters..." type attitude. Keep going through those front tyres lads

But in all seriousness I think the VXR range is great and the fast vauxhalls have come a long way, so hats off to them.

 

Ah its a little spec c so thats 6.8 60-100 (280ps/290lbs torque, factory figures)

Try an 1100kg RA(it's been on a diet), 345bhp, it's good fun, and the light weight really helps in the corners
No idea of 0-60, 0-100 etc, but i know of a 360bhp RA that did a 3.6 sec 0-60 at Trax.
How come the ftlb is so high for low power figures? Must pull well!

 

A bit of tinkering to the tune of under £1.5k will easily see approx 350bhp & 380 ft/lbs torque & a 0 to 60mph close to 4.0 sec lets not forget Tony.

Ive owned an Astra VXR for 12 months and although fast i persoanally dont think its a patch on my WRX-S.

Traction on front is ****e
standard they have bad lag, mapped diff question.
Whenh u pop them in reverse you gear stick rubs quite heavily on the passenger seat, ( bad design )
Pers from a standing start i doubt 1 could beat me, i was shocked at how powerful my WRX-S felt and no lag at all screwing through the gears, and how high the turbo went in the rev range ( basically to the end) never ran outa puff.

Saying that i aint raced 1 yet. Only 2 cars i feel ive matched are a golf R32 and an Audi TTS, neither could do anything nor could get me off there bumpers.

I also raced my m8 in his Civic type-R, ive owned one of these for 3 years also, and i distroyed that.

But thats my opinion, i did then swap it for a new Insignia cdti 160 but after 9 months of that and shafted injectors i chipped that in for my lovely scoob, fuel annoys me but i bite my lip

ne1 know what the MPG is of the new cosworth 1

The build on the astras was crap also, not saying out scoobies interiors are great but the amount of times the little Hose kept coming off under the engine ( think is was the boost hose or something ) you had to eventually stick it back on or it sounded like you had a waste gate fitted.

 

I think all of these 60-100 times for VXR Vaxhauls are getting out of hand!

5 seconds is faster than a Monaro VXR by a good 2.6 seconds!
And VX220 Turbo by 3.7 secs......

Ok the Astra VXR aint there but the old GSI turbo is and at a 10.7 second time the VXR must be there or there abouts.....??

 

allsop that is correct for a standard car but they are referring to modified cars running big torque resulting in excellent 60-100 times, as the gearing will quite long and you be in the meat of the pulling power.

The Vecs are V6 engines with Twin Scroll Turbos, they do like torque, 330bhp is about the most you'll see from them on the std Turbo, once changed though 400bhp+ is available.


Although I don't think I'd want that through the fronts, blipping the throttle by accident mid corner would just lead to death.

 

Thing is though even 60-100 isn't a TRUE comparison of power the best is a true 30-130 day or 30-150 this way you get to use a good bit of the rev range and gear changed are needed instead of just a 40mph jump in one gear.

So although 5secs looks quick and gives you cudos when you pull from a car you know is faster that car will catch you shortly and pass you.

THE VXR8 for instance is slower 60-100 than a tuned vec(std vxr8) but very shortly after the Vec hits 110 that monstrous V8 pulls past and says stay behind and we have choice.

 

Even so- you can't tell me that a modded Vetcra VXR is going to be as quick 60-100 as a Murchielago LP-640.......

You are correct the times on torquestats are not right, the Monaro VXR (6.0) has a proven 60-100 of 5.7 standard, the times on there are out.

and as said the vec tuned is a tad quicker to 100 than the monaro but the monaro will overtake it not long after (due to bigger engine and more bhp.

 

I remember wtaching Top Gear recently, and Clarkson said the Vec VXR was quicker straightline from 60-100 (might have been 130?) than a BMW M5!!!! Just shoite in the corners lol.

 

Nope they push out more than the factory figures though

Build quality on the vxr was good, never had a problem once with mine over about 18 months. First scoob a 53 plate wrx was never out of the garage, gearboxes, pre-selectors, fogged lights etc etc. It depends on the individual cars. I still stick to the vxr being a better and faster car than a wrx which let's face it is nowhere near the car an sti is. These paper figures are a crap cop out, get in the car, own them then you can't talk with a little knowledge, not out of blind support for the current car you own.

We ought to organise a VXR vs Scoob day at a track for a bit of fun. Would make a few people on this thread look even sillier than they do already.

STIs are pretty quick cars, but WRXs and UK Turbos are not that fast compared to much of the competition these days.

I had three races on a long straight back from southend after a esc run.

It was with a MK2 astra cab. 3 up. At that time i was running 280/280. 2 up.

i kept up with him for 0.4 sec. then he just pulled he's pants down and showed me his **** every time....

caught up with him before he turned off at canvey. all his mates were giggling. shouted out what he has under the bonnet as i thought a calibra turbo lump.

now he must do that every weekend laughing his head off baiting people.

all i can say is...dude.....

Standard VXR with an exhaust and filter (no remapping tho....)

Build Quality was good, felt a very solid car and felt pretty quick from the passenger seat but once I got behind the wheel I wasn't blown away.

Most of this is subjective down to personal preference but felt a bit removed from it all compared to the P1 and didn't feel as "chuckable" (if you know what I mean)

Very smooth power though which I thought was decieving as a passenger and I can imagine a tuned one to be pretty damn quick but as standard it felt a bit sluggish and TBH......bit of a pig to drive fast....

There's maybe a technique required to get the best out of it but no matter what I tried I couldn't get on the power the way I would have liked through any 2nd gear corners.

Right enough though- once rolling on a carriage way or whatever it's a nice place to be.
responsive, muscular etc. but just not as blisteringly quick as this thread had me believe.
Not a bad car- just not for me.

The Vectra VXR Top Gear was on last night though....lol. And the only time it is mentioned in the same breath is saying it is faster- not because it accelerates faster but because it isn't limited to 155mph.

I do like the look and sound of one though- can you give it 2 mappings and switch between the two?? With kids on the horizon it would make a nice tourer with plenty of room

 

two completely different cars altogether, about as much point doing a comparison of the two as a bugatti Veyron and a fukin land rover.
