Hey Eddy,

The problem was due to the DV/Delete as it was screwing with the ECU and MAF. So not the ECU at fault just it was getting confused and sending the messages to the ECU from the MAF that all was not well.

That was the reason I went MAF'less however still got MAF in place and using the wires to messure intake temps until I get a boss welded up on the manifold pope of the FMIC.

Not sure what that is all about on your car? Could be heat soak if driven for a while before getting the fuel if the car has been used then sat for a little bit? Not sure there mate?

As for ECU. Not sure on prices mate? I have a EcuTek'd ECU for sale if your interested? Will need to be remapped again to suit your set up though so bare that in mind.

Hey TX,

Cheers mate. I know I am going on a bit lol. Just to clear things up with you and anyone else thinking I am a pork pie short of a picnic that I wasn't going to do a write up but felt that anyone who was thinking of reaching the same goals as I had what I have done, not done etc could be usefull and so on.
I still think I should add a few bits for mind sake but for now just hoping people enjoy the read (or good snoring material).

I still feel a little out of my depth writing in this section if I am honest as most of the cars have serious power or used for track, drag in mind. My budget will never be like some but I have proved a point that most wouldn't be willing to try by getting the EJ207 to 450bhp for a everyday car.

I'd be a liar if I said it hasn't cost me. Not only money, but time with my misses and kids but have made up for this now I have the car at a stage of where I want it I can enjoy it and make the most of the time and effort spent on it over the last few years.

One thing I have taken note of over the last few years is.......I will never get another balck car again.

Cheers for reading again and feedback.

I was suprised to see that the oil temp didn't come up to approx 70 around 1.5miles later into my trip. Geeky maybe but just thought I'd add that.

Been to a few meets of late and seeing all the different styles people have I now think I want another set of alloys. Been looking at Maggys (MSOC) new wheels on his car and really like them and in that colour. So now need to work out what I want to spend and what alloys to get.

Looking into getting a new head unit, speakers and get my Parrot car kit added. Not really a fan of massive ICE so just something more updated and speakers that can take the odd bit abuse.

The car was also given a nice clean and light polish by Hampshire Valeting. Much needed and even though the weather has changed slightly with a bit of rain on it's first clean since getting it back has made the paintwork easier to clean.

Noticed the MPG on the Tesco fuel is alot worse than using the V-Power and V-Power and Meth mix. Made the car idle funny on Tesco too? Maybe they have changed something in the addatives?

August ...................to be continued.

Steve

I'd have thought that's down to it being mapped on v-power and not 99. Be careful having it mapped on one fuel then runing it on another. Unless you have multi maps for each type of fuel?

Hey mate,

Running switches for maps on Simtek. I have had it mapped for 95ron-Tesco 99/Vpower on the low boost map. And V Power & Meth on the high boost map.

i put in the Tesco 99 rather than Tesco 95 etc sometimes as a treat over the 95ron. Just to be safe to be safe too but thats gone out the window?

July 2010 - MOT completed and PASSED. Goes to show that a Sports Cat does work and with my current power a de-cat is not required.

Hi Steve - thanks again for your positive comments on my thanks thread to Paul at Zen. Have read your write up and I should say you should certainly not feel out of depth on this section - what's important is you've undertaken a project and seen it through regardless of power levels. You're running some very good power as it is now - 450 bhp is a handful I'm sure! Keep going!

Will be keeping an eye on this project!

Thanks Jag.

It's power is well, no where close to yours but I'm happy with it at the mo.
For me 450 on a everyday road car is enough at the moment. But who knows? Maybe tempted for more.

Thanks again.

September 2010 - Noticed the fog light on drivers side rattling a little. And on the way to work heard a weird noise to see in my rear view mirror the cold air feed pipe bouncing along the road. D'oh.

So trimmed the fog lamp mount assembly back and re mounted another could feed pipe.

As the car is used pretty much everyday for work etc I noticed when I pulled up the drivers headlight had a lot of excess water/condensation. I thought it was outside so put the car away and went indoors. The following day it was clear there was condensation in the cluster unit itself.

So, head light out. Wiped the excess water still on the inside of the lense and place a heater against it.
Due to the fact I could see no cracks etc to the light I assumed it was the cold air coming in via the CAIK as there is a gap between the bumper and support beam leading direct to the head light. So, found some old plastic from the bumper I cut up and used that.

Once I dried the light inside I picked it up only to find water pissing out of the dipped bulb location area!! So placed the light in side for a few days to air out.

With the light (then the other light)out I changed the bulbs ready for the winter. I previously had the Halfrauds GE made 90% brighter lights and the Blue Vision side lights.

I changed them for a set of OSRAM NIGHT BREAKERS PLUS (H1) and some Phillips Bright White side lights (W5W).
Put them in ready for the the Monthly Surrey meet and away I went.

Which leads me to more money. On starting the car up it sounded a little different on tick over. Thought nothing of it and drove off. However my car was sticking at 3,300 rpm. After a few miles I had to pull over as the car was undriveable with even changing gear early for a higher gear proving to be a nightmare.
Both oil and water temps were getting high. Switched the bugger off and carried on until I got to the meet.

Anyone who was there will vouch for how bad it was hence "The Lawn Mower" comment.
Couldn't drive the car the following day to work as it was still doing it. So popped over ot Mike's to check a few bits and bobs and swapped out sensors etc.Still no joy.

So got in touch with my little bitch Simon (JGM) to check it wasn't the ECU having a hissy. As ever Simon was a gent and popped over checking my current ECU and another ECU to rule out a faulty soilder on the ECU itself. Sadly Simon diagnosed a faulty Idle Control Valve. Cheers again Simon dear boy.

So, looked on line and the prices of a new ICV shocked me to say the least. I was never going to get a USED one as I didn't want to pay around a oner for the same thing to happen down the line soon. So managed to get one on the cheap for a grand ol price of £280!!

So it arrived the following day. And I keen to get the car up and running again. So went about trying to get the old screws out. What a bitch. The heads on the screw had become very weak due to the hot/cold cycle over the years . Following on from what Simon told me a few days previous I went about tapping the end of the screw driver whilst turning. This didn't work and the heads on the screw started breaking.

So in the end went for a 8mm flat head on the end of the ratchet & The rubber mallet . As last the buggers came out.

I placed a new gasket inside the throttle body and put the new ICV in. Only to come to think that the screws were shagged. I didn't have anthing the sit in there with the same size so cutting a long story short after not being able to get the size screws anywhere popped over to Screfix in West Drayton.

If you ever need to replace the ICV here are the size of the screws/type and so on.
Unplugg the ICV.
8mm flat head
Rubber Mallet
Ratchet

Remember the screw will go from passenger side to drivers side (anti clock wise) in rotation. Gently un screw the old screws (they are almost welded in)

Make sure you buy and use a new gasket. Simple as that to put the new one in.

Place the new ICV in place and use the follwing screws M5 x 20mm Hex Screw head.
I used a washer too to be safe. I did it up by about 1.5 lb/2.0 lb of pressure as it is counter sunk to the throttle body.
Plug the ICV back in and hey presto.

On start up the car was happy straight away. But still a little high on revs once warm. 1,500rpm.
Gave Simon another call and asked him to rub my leg and drop the Revs.

Then I noticed the following day the head light full of condensation again!!! So light back out and this time thought about getting a replacement unit until I got a price for just one £396.00 + VAT!!!!!

So aired the light out again and used the misses hair dryer to warm up the rubber seal and stuck it down again. Also used my old friend Duck Tape. I simply heated the area and cut thin strips the put them in place to the back of the head light unit and re heated and pushed down filling the gaps by using a tea spoon. Yes, a tea spoon.

Lights back in and had no problems since. Yay!!

Had to see Simon again this week to up the idle again. The ICV has eased up and made the idle drop a little lower than it should causing stalling on cold and eratic idle on warm.

Thanks to Simon all sorted now including idle with ac on etc. Sweet.

Will be getting GEO done ASAP as I have noticed the car feeling a little sloppy with the colder temps on the road etc.

Heres some latest pics at the moment

Hi Steve,

Did you try cleaning the IACV before replacing it? & did it not show a CEL?
I had the same problem, but my trusty local mechanic (RS74 from here) removed it, cleaned & replaced it all for free
Here's a thread all about it:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=iacv

Maybe your old one, once cleaned, could re-coup some of your money?

Lovely car by the way, and for geometry, I couldn't recommend Paul from Zen highly enough

Hello matey. To be honest I have cleaned out it now I have the new one in. It was coated in sot. Looks a like cleaner but haven't tested it as of yet.

Cheeky devil. It only flames now and then when it's really really warmed up. The Sports Cat puts a stop to a lot of fun like that.

Check out the wall..........I felt so bad I cleaned the wall down after.

It's been a while since I have added anything in this section on my own thread.

The car has been used EVERYDAY for work, shopping, school runs , trips to the tip and in general has been neglected slightly.

I have added a few bits but will find all the bits to add and write up later.

How does anti-lag work for school runs ?????

Sounds great with the AL running. Only thing that stands out as a little odd, is the bright white side repeaters, a set of smoked ones would look much better IMO.... lots of bug projects on the way

Ok here we go.......from September 2010 - April 2011 what I did and so on is very sketchy sadly.

I was getting married in the March 2011 so cannot remember a great deal but I roughly know what I did and what took place to keep this "Project" going".

If I remember anything or stumble across any invoices during this time that my 4 year old didn't put in the shredder will update ASAP.

October 2010 - Drove car

November 2010 - Ran the car on 95ron for around about 3 weeks. Car worked fine but noticed of course the car feeling sluggish.

December 2010 - Attended Surrey Scoobies Rolling Road Day at surreyrolliingroad and put the car on the rollers to see what power she was making on 95 ron.

354 BHP / 302 Lbft (I think but will find the dyno print out) . Wasn't to down about the result but for a 450 rated turbo felt I was letting it down and not treating the car enough in general.

Was during this time we had the cold snap across the UK and the heavy snow fall - Which resulted in me hitting some ice and catching the passenger side up against a kerb. Only real damage was my pride and some scuffs to the alloys on front and back. Took it to a local tyre shop and they advised that wheels were not buckled.

So anyway , just prior to Christmas got in touch with Simon and asked if the map could be adjusted to co inside with just V-Power rather than 95ron or Tesco Momentum. This took place and again on the rollers produced 430bhp / 390lbft (I think but will find the dyno print out) .

January/Febuary 2011 - Following the little mishap with the kerb knew I needed GEO done. Heard good words spoken of JS Race Engineering so got in contact with Jimmy and arranged for a Geo.

Whilst the Geo was taking place thought I may aswell throw in the EBC NDX Bluestuff pads I had sat in the boot.

So new geo settings and car raised from -50mm to -45mm at the rear and new brake pads the car felt a treat to drive.

Purchased a set (only needed the Fronts) CDF Racing drop links.

March 2011 - Not a lot was taking place by me this month due to being married at the end of the month but of course the Stag Doo!!!

During taking the odd break from weddings I was thinking of doing some Track Days for 2011 and knew I needed to pull my finger out and change/replace things to aide me on this quest.

So taking the plunge and letting someone else carry this out for me other than myself or my close friends who had helped me so much in the passed was not easy.......yet 48hrs before my wedding i decided to allow someone to take my car and fit the following whilst I was away on honeymoon as I didn't have a great deal of time on my hands.

Fit CDF Racing drop links (Front)
Cosworth Belt
Cosworth Belt guide
RCM water pump
Carry out check and modify Oil Pump (long story but I'll get to that later)
Change Oil for Pro S 10w / 50
New Tensioner
Idlers etc
AC/PS belts etc
Cosworth Baffle Plate
Mocal 19 row oil cooler with thermostat plate
Race spec braided lines
Make one off intake to go onto Oil Cooler.

All of which would be carried out by JS Race Engineering .

For oil cooler needed another intake made up so my mate Mike offered to carry this out for me whilst I was away.

April 2011 - After no word of my car being ready for 2.5 weeks and knowing the following week I'd be back at work and needed to drive it I chased this up.

Was advised that the baffle plate was out of stock and that the oil cooler could not be fitted for time being.

Was almost another week I was advised the car would be ready the following day. Result.

So, picked up the car (was in a bit of a mess and had smear marks over if from being washed and sadly the suds had baked on to the car in the process.

A couple of weeks later Jimmy and I fitted the Cosworth baffle plate at my home and arranged a date for getting the Oil Cooler plumbed in. Result.

May 2011 - Noticed the car breathing heavier and getting through Fuel a lot and some blue-ish smoke out the exhaust.
Was scratching my head and having a look but couldn't work it out?

Carried out compression test and all good with no loss of water or oil.

Found that the breather off the crank case was blocked and with a kink? Freed this up, cleaned out catch can and replaced pipes.

For some reason I was at Surrey Rolling Road again looking through my phone or ideas over the last 7 months but for what reason I couldn't tell you or what power?

Was around this time I was looking for another set of tyres but wasn't sure what.

Was also this time my NOW WIFE had started to moan about the sound of the Team Ice exhaust and knowing I wanted to do track days needed to change it. So was keeping my eye out for RCM part number 369.

June 2011 - Whilst driving driving bulb blew. So too the opitunity to replace all bulbs in the light unit for the exception of the Silvertec indicator bulb.

Was chasing up when my oil cooler could be set up.

July 2011 - Not a lot ....Beer time.

August 2011 - Got the hold of a full RCM system with the part number I'd been after for so long RCM369. Also got the all clear a date for when the oil cooler could go back to JS Race Engineering .

So left the car over with Jimmy at JS Race Engineering for a few days that would include another oil change but was going to try Bardahl Race oil.

Got the call to pick it up and also got Jimmy to fit the back box on the car whilst myself and my lad were looking at the race cars Jimmy preps for the Lotus Cup Europe.

Oil cooler position.

Only gettting the car home noticed that the bumper wasn't sat 100% so following day took the time to remove the bumper and resolve it.

Most importantly the noise levels were reduced so much I could hear my stereo for a change without turning it up so much to the point of the speakers crackling.

But with this noticed the car on boost holding back then going again. Thought it could be a combo of a number of things like oil cooler (added oil capacity) back box and so on .

Gave Simon (JGM) a tinkle and agreed to pop over to Surreyrollingroad for a check over.

Turned out to be a good move. The car by adding the back box and so on had made the car slightly lean not only that the back pressure etc.

So, Simon gave the car a tweak for the Fuelling whilst I was there.

Car straight away was happy and nicer to drive on the road again.

With the car coming together nicely and knowing I needed new tyres and a set of wheels for summer/track use. A friend and member on Surreyscoobies had a set of PWRC alloys going spare so made him an offer. They needed a re-paint and TLC so gave Richard/Dickie Boy (Mags) a call at RTS http://www.ruisliptyres.com/contact/
so dropped them off the next day and after speaking with Dickie Boy over what tyres to go for over Falken 452 or Yokohama Parada I made my mind up to go for another set of Yokohama Parada.

A week later I get a call off Rich to say wheels are ready. What a great job on the wheels. The white on a black car went so well I decided to tell Rich to put them on the car over the now new rubber on my ROTA GRA's.

Whilst driving back from RTS noticed a slight noise almost as though the turbo spooling down but like a slight hissing.

Made some checks but couldn't find anything.

Simon (JGM) was over at Surreyrollingroad the next day so popped over there for a check up and to show off my white wheels.

Carried out a power run and the car made 442bhp / 396 lbft ( again I think, need to check my dyno print outs) .

But Charlie and Simon both said that there was a leak of some kind in the exhaust that got worse on the rollers.

Sure enough on the way home I could hear it more.

So popped over to Jimmy of JS Race Engineering for some advise as it sounded like there may have been a crack in the manifold joiners.

On investigation the leak was coming from the manifold to up-pipe and Jimmy noticed some sot round by the head to manifold.

Due to time scale for myself and Jimmy's race plans couldn't do anything for a few days so the car had to wait.

So new gaskets placed on order and waited for Jimmy to become free.

Couple of days later manifold off and gaskets replaced.

September - October 2011 is a little messy.......forgive me and I will update it once I get my paper work sorted and looking at pictures off my phone etc I can build up where I am.......

Cutting along story short......I was violated in terms of trust. , Smashed the FMIC on a speed hump splitting a pipe joiner in half , re-painted the arches.

September - Arches cleaned and re-painted.

Noticed whilst at the Piston Heads Sunday service a worrying site of a oil spill under my car. Bumper removed and joiners tightend.

October - CDF Racing Droplinks removed and installed new Whiteline droplinks to the front.
Following another failure of a uppipe gasket that had not been changed as requested Anger (James) & MAFF popped over to loan a hand to get the car up in the air .

Gasket replaced. BLow sorted.

A few days later sadly I hit a speed hump (forgetting how low I was in an unknown area) resulting in me snapping a mounting plate off the FMIC and splitting a hose joint in the process. Lucky enough I had some cable ties and some masking temp as a temp fix to get me home.

November - Summer wheels removed and winter wheels and tyres fitted.

I noticed a few issues with the car not feeling itself. Car was used daily so had to put up with it.
But put it down to the sudden temp drop etc.
I noticed the familar fuel small every now and then accociated with Bugeyes fuel rails not to mention the very poor MPG I was getting.

Not a problem.......yet I don't have those fuel rails after going Parrallel some time before. So put that down to the catch can venting with moisture in the air etc.

Yet I also noticing a very strange noise when car was in idle position like an air leak and Turbo sounded a little different.

The final straw came after driving it and all of a sudden it started misfiring and a big cloud of smoke behind me.

Gave Simon a call and himself and Charlie (SRR) said it would be best to pop it over straight away to get it on the dyno.

I popped the car over to Surrey Rolling Road for Simon (JGM) and Charlie (SRR) to see how it performed.

The results were very shocking. The car was massivly down on power and made 329bhp / 310 lbft.

I left SRR with my tail between my legs and took in the advise and possible reasons behind the sudden power loss not to mention the sudden smell of fuel in the car every so often.

So got in contact with Dan at Surrey Subaru Specialist for some advise. Dan was busy at the time but offered to pop over after he had finished and have a look at the car quick.

Later that evening on Dan's inspection noticed the fuel leaks were from x2 places that I couldn't spot.

Possbile signs of turbo failure.

and a few other bits......

December - To be continued.........

December - Car was dropped off to Dan's (Surrey Subaru Specialist) for full inspection .

Within the time it took me to get home Dan called me to let me know that the news wasn't great.

Not only had I got fuel leaks, my intake pipe had a split when the bung meets , and turbo showed signs of oil starvation. So need a rebuild but need an inspection.

The following day the misses decided she would smash into the kerb killing a 7 day old Falken and a pipe burst at the bottome of my front door from mains water supply.........I thought I was loosing my marbles.

After sorting that mess out , I popped over to Dan's (Surrey Subaru Specialist) to collect my turbo ready for dropping off to Mark at Lateral the following day.

Whilst chatting with Mark at Lateral we agree on depending on the findings what spect to take. So agreed on the same housing but on a billet set up.

Me and Dan got chatting about teh possbile reasons for the oil starvation......we removed the front cover of the belts to be greeted with a rather annoying discovery.....

Not only had my Oil Pump that was supposed to be uprated show any signs of removal but most shocking was the fact I had trimmings of Cosworth Kevlar belt everywhere and the idles were coats in blue too from the belt!!!!

It turns of the Belt guide (Cosworth) had been positioned a few mm in correctly causing the shavings and also it turns out the belt was out by a tooth!!!!!

For reasons of my own I won't post up the full version of what took place between myself and the previous person who claimed to have fitted this so called uprated Oil Pump and fitted my belt incorrectly but lets say it ended well and I got my new Cosworth belt etc!!!

Due to needing to get the car on the road ASAP I needed a replacement oil pump straight away.......... Simon (JGM) offered me one that he didn't end up fitting to his Kermit project car. So for a great price (Cheers again Simon) popped over to meet Simon and got my hands on a Cosworth Blue Printed 12mm oil pump.

Next day at work my Oil arrived and I get a call from Mark at LATERAL letting me know that my Turbo had arrived and where I wanted it sent to........being in a rush again to get the car on the road I went straight over to WATFORD to collect the turbo and also purchased a Lateral Fuel Pump.......then travelled straight over to drop all the bits off to Dan (Surrey Subaru Specialist).

Christmas Eve and I pick my car up from Dan's (Surrey Subaru Specialist).

New Billet Turbo fitted
12 Cosworth Oil Pump fitted
Aother Cosworth Kevlar belt fitted
New idlers etc
Air Leaks sorted
Intake replaced
Fuel Lines replaced.

Dan took the time to change the position of my FPR.

Firstly it was a joy to be behind the wheel of the car again but secondly the new billett turbo was bonkers.

The Fuel pump fitting was waiting until I was going over to meet Simon (JGM) at CHarlies (SRR) after the festive season.

January to be continued. ..........

January 2012 - Following on from the changes made I popped over to SRR for Simon and Charlie to give me the tumbs to make sure there was nothing else needed before fitting a fuel pump and re-map.

Car made a healthy result on the rollers but was suggested if changing the fuel pump (which was on it's last legs) then would be worth it at the same time to get a 3 Bar MAP Sensor.

So a few days later I popped over to Dan's (Surrey Subaru Specialist) and we fitted the Lateral Hi Flow Fuel Pump.

On route to SRR the car was popping and banging its nuts off but as tmepting as it was to give it beans and swith the Anti-Lag on I needed to get it there for the mapping to take place.

3 Bar Map Sensor fitted, new fuel pump etc I had a result in my head I would be happy with ( as we all do without admitting it ) .........V-Power run the car exceeded my figure in my head by producing 450.9 bhp / 430 lbft (need to check the lbft result when I foudn my graph).

I was overwelmed.........at the request of Charlie (SRR) I cracked on with filling the car up on meth.........previous mix I opted for was 5ltrs.......but this time thought sod it and went for 10ltrs giving an 18% mix and filled up with a little bit more V-power to top it up.

Again I was hoping for around the 465 mark in my head. On stock internals I'd be more than happy with that.

Following on from the power runs and tweaks Simon managed to extract out of my car a aswesome 482.5 bhp / 448(.5 lol) lbft!!!!! I was gobsmacked.

The drive home was a blast and I was so happy I treated the wife by allowing her to rest whilst I did the dinner and washing up.........anyway........errrrrrr.....

February to present..........to be continued........
