Sadly, I would probably agree.
But that said too every single marque has their issues and potential failures. The Ford Focus RS engines blow up regularly and have very known issues, Evos have their issues, etc etc.
I've owned powerful RX7's, RX8, Pulsars and loads more all with well known ticking time bomb issues. That's always the problem with owning a powerful car, you're always chasing the weak spots and weakest components in a tuned system.
If you worried too much about these things you'd have a 1L corsa and never have any fun in life!!!!
If you don't have the cash to maintain a car like this then maybe it's not the right car for you at this time of life. I don't own a car I can't afford to do these jobs on, it's part of the ownership in my opinion.
For accuracy, this thread title really needs to be changed to: 2006 - 2018 2.5ltr Engine Failures

not really, i know plenty of cars that have been mapped with that or high milage and not had problems.
Not saying it couldn't have contributed, especially given how hard some mappers push engines, but a custom map even at a later stage don;t right should help the engine anyway.

They guy on here had his engine go but that had a CAI. There's been one on Ebay for months and months with a blown engine but it's been up so long and it's a 2014 car so it should have still been in warranty so what had been done to the car for Subaru not to honour the warranty?
I have a 2017 on 8K. If mine goes then I'll ask for the ketchup as I eat my hat but to be fair I barely hammer mine. Spends most of it's time in "I" and on the motorway I tend to play the MPG game. So mine doesn't really have a hard time. If mine goes then yeah, either unlucky or they genuinely are sh1te. Fortunately, they aren't crippling money wise to repair. I've been quite close recently to junk mine for a B8 RS4 but without a third party warranty the repair bills are like house deposit size!

Is there any 2014-18 cars that have had their engines let go and were completely standard?

Not all the ones clinic have had in have been moded
as mentioned all sort of excuses. subaru UK have no interest and tbh i think they are doing their best to shut subaru down in the UK judging by their actions.

I wouldn't have said an oil separator was essential at all Matty to be honest.
With regards to the Prodrive map, in my opinion it's still a generic "one size fits all" type of ECU plug in map. It's not tailored to your car, your cars sensors, fuel grade, engine etc.
If it were my car and money I'd still get a professional to do a bespoke map.

A "custom" map is as good as that, "custom" for when the vehicle was mapped for the state of mechanical parts at that time.
If mechanical things start wearing out, boost leaks happen etc. a custom map won't necessarily be any better than e.g. a Prodrive map.

Have they had many 14-17 cars in that have blown?
Mines only had 99 momentum and the shift buzzer is set at 4500 so yeah, if mine blows while under warranty and Subaru UK play silly buggers I will trailer it to their HQ and set fire to it 😊

Subaru’s sell in the uk especially in more rural areas , I don’t think they’re going anywhere as for the sti etc yes that’s well gone the brz or forester Xt are the sportiest Subaru’s now , I agree with tidgy it’s doesnt really matter what mileage your on for a re map , if the cars well maintained ,, I think the thing is here it doesn’t really mater what happens 2.5 is a pane in the **** if you manage to avoid ring land failure and head gasket issues , then your bearings are prob going to be ruined by 120k if your lucky so it’s rebuild time then anyway , with scooby engines although a lot of parts need replacing for a rebuild ,, ie gaskets etc it’s not that hard of a job and is common practise now

just adding to this 2004 fsti , head gaskets went at 87,000 just that was done , it’s an ej255 engine not the ej257 , the bearings should have been done but were ok at the time , until a year later and they failed , full rebuild done then head gaskets went again so always use arp bolts , it’s now on 155,000 miles and running well , second fsti 2005 plate hg went , bearings seemed ok but i learnt from my mistake and lucky i did , when it was stripped one bearing was on its way out , full rebuild with bearings and arp bolts and runs like a train , in simple pistons were always fine , but use race bearings better pistons arp bolts and always do a full engine rebuild it’s much cheaper in the long run , still love the cars and look at it as one of those things , plus boost improved on both rebuilds ? they are great sleepers

Subaru in the US are getting some fire over the pooh.5 for the second time.
It does tend to blow the whole IM Subaru UK argument out.

Ya well as we've said before many times, all manufacturers have failures, but the numbers are a lot less versus those owners who've modded them poorly or fecked up running them properly.
I've yet to seen or read proper proof of a standard 2014> STi in the UK blowing up without mitigating issues, i.e run on the wrong fuel etc.
And don't say (again) that SC have had a few in, that isn't proper proof without knowing the history of each case.

although that said its all a tad irrelevant now given they dont make them any more.
