Not had any issues with my twin scroll S GT, & its been running 330 bhp on std internals.
I would not purchase a 2.5 for my own use ever, although they do keep me in plenty of work.

The S GT is the only Impreza to go for in my opinion. I took a look at one at Keighley Trade Centre with fear and trepidation but as it was the only one for sale in the country and only 3 miles away I couldnt ignore it. An 08 with 1,500 miles and more scratches than a cat post...I left it.

Just had 1st MOT.

MOT station were telling me that in 2014 they will have to plug in a box to the OBD2 port to read ecu etc.
Any remapping will fail.
Any mods - even down to steel brake flexi hoses, will fail.

Sounds tighter than German TUV standards, pretty well any mods to brakes, engine, exhaust, suspension outlawed.


I do hope he was wrong on this.

That is ridiculous, I hope they have got it seriously wrong. I uprated my brakes that were factory options above standard so how do they factor this in?

You reckon that there is going to be every single engine map variation, on every make / model / engine type for the last 20 years that a MOT station is going to overlay to check for alteration from std, if there is such a thing as std, MOT's will cost £300.00 & last hours, never going to happen, ever.

Having read a few thread recently about oil filters and their replacement I was wondering if there is any link to the change of size by Subaru of the oil filter and the engine failures?

Is the oil capacity different on a 2.0l and 2.5l, just throwing something else into the mix.

I have only had 1 engine in thats a direct fault of the newer blue filter, that had a extruded o ring that let out the oil on the motorway, which resulted in bearing damage, this was a Legacy, i personally only use Fram filters on all my builds, inc 800 hp 2.35 Time Attack builds.
Capacity on the twin scroll sumps is about 1/2 litre less than the normal sump, twin scroll sumps are fitted to all later 2.5 engines inc Hawkeye models.

The new blue filters are made by Honeywell canada, the same people who make fram filters i believe. I read somewhere both the subaru blue and Fram filters are identical apart from the paint on the outside.

The Fram filter i use looks nothing like the Subaru filter.

How do they differ Paul? I must admit i didn't really look at the Fram filter you fitted when i changed the oil. I was under the impression they were the same cardboard construction as the scoob blue filters and both made in the canadian honeywell factory.

There is a Fram filter factory near me in Llantrisant, that's Wales by the way.

Maybe that's it then, depends on where its made. I seem to remember there was or is a Fram factory in southampton too.

First engine ringland failure after 25K miles, new short block on warranty with new Subaru map to fix problem.
Next engine blow up with connecting rod bearing failure on two cylindre after 60K miles
As I had to paid my self I went for a stronger solution and have installed a Cosworth Short block and a remap from EMS tuning in Netherlands. Running safe mith 350 PS 500Nm

If looking at buying new shape scooby, will subaru dealer have it on main system if cars had any recalls done?

Yes, from the chassis no. their system should list any warranty work and recalls etc.
