sounds good! think about going ALL forged, not only will you have extra peace of mind , but you can sell it easier that way, in future. Most people buying those cars now, look for all forged internals. are you in the uk? what was the octane level of that Vpower you fueled it with?

yeah ive got about a week to decide before robs putting the pieces together again. Vpowers 99RON in the UK and the nearest garage with that is 22mile away real pain in the *** tbh

ye..that's far off mate. here we are forced to use octane boosters such as NF from australia. Happy motoring and enjoy your car when it's all done!

yes i always put in Vmax 99 ron and never boot it till the water gauge is warm, dont have oil temp.
I have put 1 tank of 97 BP in which i personally thought was better.
Ive spoken to Subaru UK and they run all there on 97 Ron
The current sticker on the fuel cap for mine says 98ron, but once u get the 320R remap it gets changed to 97Ron, I hazard a guess Cosworth new Map will be a good one.

Is this 320R map from cosworth? Do you have 9000miles or km on now? Over here the 2011;s that have broken have the rubbish fuel to blame. i mean really the only boosted cars that can run well on that low octane is the german cars with direct injection. well it's mostly the german cars that have direct injection. that's the way to go! subaru will follow with that soon i think.
they should also really add an oil temp gauge i reckon.

p.s i saw BP sells a 102 Ron at the pump stations in Britain. Tell me about that. Is the availablity of that scarce, or is it just too expensive to use regularly?

Only a handful of BP garages sell it throughout the whole of the UK, I believe.

IIRC it was launched at £2.79 per litre!!! (R31.00 at today's exc. rate). That's pretty much bang on double the price of SUL in the UK now. Plus, that £2.79 was a few years back to boot. So it may have gone up a bit since - not sure.

Always used Vpower as that is what it was mapped on, so reluctant to try Tesco99.

Apologies if comes across silly but quick question...
If I were to buy a Hawkeye STI, around 06 plate, would I also be at risk for the aforementioned problems?
Regards

the short answer is yes i guess, the long answer maybe
ive got hawkeye with no issues so far, as have a fair few people here
you only ever hear the bad news and all that
i dont think the hawkeyes were as bad as the hatch which had a bad map as well as an engine liable to HG issues
im sure someone with alot more experience will come and say thats wrong in aminute mind

All the 2.5 STI engines have the same issues, the MY06 2.5 STI also had some HG issues which were "corrected" on the MY07 cars, unless your talking about the MY06 JDM car which is 2ltr and doesnt have this problem as its a far better engine

The moral of the story is...
If you get a 2.5L Hawk or MY08>on car, then factor into your budget an immediate 'safety' remap by one of the reputable mappers on this site. This should be enough to prevent the issue from happening from that point on (unless of course, you've unwittingly inherited a car where engine damage has already 'begun'...)
To that end, I'd only ever consider a factory OEM 2.5 purchase where the original purchaser obviously knows his onions, and had just such a remap immediately after buying the car, from brand new. Otherwise, as eluded to above, the 'risk' is too great IMO.
