IMO you would be better with a hawk WRX with the 2.5 engine! If you get an early 06 you will miss the high tax.
Secondly dont worry about PPP as it is overhyped and its just an ECU reflash and a quiet exhaust. An actual proper ecutek remap from say JGM, Andy Forrest, dunx etc would get far better results than a PPP and a car thats alot more driveable.
The hawks when remapped generate huge torque. Even a blob STI PPP would have nowhere near the same torque.

Its actually gettin to the point were performance cars will soon be a thing of the past.
If you buy a new Nissan GTR today for example you are hit with a showroom tax of 1000.A new STI is 750.
On top ot that fuel prices are crazy and insurance prices are steep.

I received a rather lurid PM from him earlier, it is a pity that he cannot even be bothered to spell properly when he is abusing me, even if he is trying to show how 'hard' he is...

I've always enjoyed the WRXs (particularly when fitted with PPP) for their good spread of power at lower revs and more comfortable ride. While I love Subarus and Imprezas in particular, I can't stand spoilers, big alloys and loud exhausts.
For every day transport I would go with the advice above and target an early Hawk 2.5 WRX, leave it as it is and enjoy.
As a toy, however, get whatever floats yer boat!

Concerning the WRX, Im more inclined to go for one of those (with PPP) as i find the STI abit lairy for my taste. (no offence to STI owners) As posts suggest that its easier to live with day to day then i think its defo the one for me
Regards
John

After one page i gave up reading, most of those sti driver have only drove a sti so i am not sure how or why they keep posting up the same s***. A 06 wrx with PPP makes a very fast day to day road car great on motorway and back roads as it has longer gears than an sti. On a track there would be no contest but on a normal road the light wrx ppp would have no issues keeping with a sti.

I am a hardened Subaru fan and embarrassingly for me, I do like big spoilers, loud exhausts etc etc but even mods on the WRX put me off that model and I knew I had made a mistake after only a couple of months of ownership. After 6 months I sold it for the STI which I had for 2 yrs.
STI is lairy and can be frantic and thats what I like, however the O.P may be satisfied with the WRX. Each to their own.

Oh if only I'd bought the Porsche Boxter not the 911
+1 Bob, owned and driven my fair share of classics and newage in STi and WRX form. Nothing wrong with the WRX at all, BUT the whole point of the STi IS that it is better out the box from a performance car point of view. It's given the power from the off with the equipment to make the most of it. Sticking with the OP's original question a 2.0 WRX is a world away from it's STi big brother even with the PPP it's not the same 2.5's the distinction is less so, but you would still be crazy given the choice to opt for the WRX OVER the STi.

I have owned an 02WRX, 03STI, RB5 and now 04STI so I think I am qualified to comment. It's not s*** it's opinion and facts.

The WRX has always felt "to soft", whenever I've had one as a courtesy car when my STI was in for service....the STI feels tighter..but that was my impression.... the STI just feels more focused if you're wanting driver involvement... where as the WRX feels like a rapid family car...which is great if that's what you want.
