Bit of an update.

Changed my wheels to my spares and painted my calipers.

And today fitted a Carbon Bonnet Lifter.

And was bored with a stanley knife and a can of Coke.

Done some more fiddly things today.

Finally got off my *** and made a bracket for my battery, as it has been looses since I`ve had it, so out came the 1/4inch bar and a tap and dye set, job done.

The bonnet lifter was too low on the front and causing the bonnet to bulge, so added a few washers and also ground the top of a nut half way along the wing down so it will fit better.

My boost gauge wasn`t showing vacuum at all, so I had a look at the pipes and the feed to it was off the boost controller pipe, so re plumbed it back onto the D/V vacuum feed and hopefully that will sort that issue out.

And finally got to the bottom of why my boot light didn`t work, the contacts in the lock had corrosion on them, so out with a flat head screwdriver to scrape it off and hey presto she`s working again.

I really hate not being able to do anything to her as I`m on a work based learning course. So hopefully I`ll have a job soon as I`m doing my Class1 Lorry with ADR and a NVQ level 3 in driving goods vehicles, hopefully that will stand me in good stead so I can get my car finished (paint wise) and then I can start playing with real mods.

Other than that she`s running sweet as a nut, need to give her an oil change in a month or so, and replace the rocker cover gaskets, as they are a little leaky, but no biggy.

FMIC arrived today.

Unpacked it all.

Then cleaned it all up.

Now got to get hold of an induction kit or find some way to use the original airbox (worth a try).

Also had my badly chipped windscreen replaced by Cymru Autoglazing, with a nice bronze replacement.

Bit of a small update.

When I cleaned up the intercooler I removed a small section of silicon tubing held on by 2 jubilee clips, not the Autobahn clips that the rest were held on with.

Under the jubilee clip was a cut in the ally pipe, which the hose was over to try and seal.
So thought to myself "Whats the point, I`ll just get it welded".

So popped down to Swansea Radiators and they welded the hole and pressure tested it.

They did that and pressure test the core (which was absolutely fine) for £15+vat.
They can re-core intercoolers there too.
http://www.swansearadiatorsandautopa..._Services.html

Looking forward to getting everything ready to put it on.

Have this coming now too, so have everything I need.

Will be looking for Injectors soon (prob 440cc ones), then I`ll see about getting a Simtek/ESL (yet to be decided which atm). Will leave the Turbo for another time and get it mapped again (with bigger Injectors again.

Only real goal I have is to make it more drivable and thats coming together with my handling and suspension, just need a bit more ooomph.
Would like around 400 for both, with anti-lag, so that should be more than enough for me anything more would be greedy.
And seeing as the engine was at 376bhp I`m confident, as I think it was built for 500.

Also need a set of STI clocks now as my speedo had broken, I think I have managed to get the speedo to work now (from only having the odometer), but the mileage doesn`t go up lol.

You'll be doing another gearbox run soon then mate as you wont last long at 400 without a 6-speed box!!

Coming on nicely mate, good luck with the fmic, i didnt find mine to bad a job......until the time came to hack into the Bumper!! Patience and persistence is defintely the way with fitting them i think!!!

Well done

Well cross that bridge when I come to it lol. But I`m not hard on gearboxes, have a soft left foot.

Yeah thats going to be my main issue tbh, the bumper.

But the main debate I`m having is when to get it mapped, as a stage 1, and which way to go. ESL then Simtek, or just get s Simtek from the get go??

Trouble with ESL then Simtek is youll end up paying twice.

I know Simtek are a lot of money to shell out, but i think they are a real good bit of kit and are value for money. You never know the odd one does pop up in the FS section now and again, around the 5-600 ive seen them at, but obviously you would need to paay a mapper then on top which could send you up nearer the grand mark.

I think mine was around £1100 installed and mapped at api, however if you (or you know someone that is VAT registered) you will be able to claim a good few quid back.

Lot of money either way, but if you are planning on keeping her for agood few years then it'll be money well spent IMHO. Plus as you know you can have the AL/LC activated at any time so thatll be a nice grin on the face for you!!

Soft left food don't make no odds, its down to the right foot at the end of the day!!!

Just my thoughts,
Rob

Yeah well I had an Omex 710 ECU in my last car and that was £845+vat for just the ECU mapping was extra lol.

But how many 6-speeds are out there?? I`d say not many, and £1-2000 for a gearbox second hand sorry no chance.

6-Speeds are up quite regular on here mate, i believe Lee Catalunya was selling his complete with all required diffs/driveshafts for about the 2k mark if i rermember rightly.

Hope your a member of the AA then and have a ready supply of 5-speeds cos from what ive seen on here with various peoples experiences the boxes are on borrowed time when you push them past the 350 mark!!

I hope you wont be driving on boost when u get tht fmic in aswell cos i know when mine went in the car was doing some very strange behaviour, think its to do with air/fuel ratios and the maf scaling being way out....oh and thats another advantage with a Simtek.....they dont use the MAF so no need to be changing them when they go pete tong, and at 200+ a go i rekon its well worth it!

Member of the RAC lol. But will see how it goes, only paid £150 for this box, and have a spare in my garage that could do with a rebuild. But £2k on a box, sorry no chance.

As for FMIC, I`m 50:50 about fitting it.
My main reason for fitting it is for Rally day, but thats not much really.

Just fitted this as a trial fit, and given it a quick drive.
Not sure about it tbh, but when its mapped should be ok.

Back to the airbox later tho.
