Firstly you dont have to bless me, Im an athiest
Secondly im a him
And thirdly we had a 430 hp v3 sti type R, and now have a pump gas 600 hp sti blob
in the household so we're well qualified to have an opinion about scoobys,
As well as one of the most badass full bodied drag racing cars in europe,
so cuckoo im not
The OP asked for opinions and i have given mine, both based on facts as i see them,
And my own personal feelings
If you dont agree then say so but dont start slagging me for my opinion

I never liked the idea of a newage Impreza years ago but after going in a wr1 I was very pleasantly suprised!
I've got an 02 STI wagon now (which I searched a long time for) and I love it.
I do wonder how people don't find the newage cars that quick, mine has a real hit of grunt and feels faster than any STD classic Sti I've driven. It may be a lot of newage sti's out there have faulty neutral position switches (tell the ecu car is in gear and activates the avcs) mine was intermitent and felt flat sometimes, just really weak and linear. When it works right it should have a good shove of power and want to rev too.
I suppose it depends what Sti you get too, mine is jdm (obviously) but some of the STD uk cars are around 265bhp aren't they? I believe jdm ones make circa 300 on the dyno.
340bhp is easily achieved though.
I love the feel and drive of my car and it'd have to be a very special classic to make me give it up.. And there's not many decent ones about thee days.

i went though the same thing as you. as i was told you are the lower end of the market for p1. so you might have to have a engine rebuild if it hasnt had one (or a remap for uk fuel).you would get a nice type r for that money. after i looked at a few i ended up with 05 blob eye sti and am in love.
so imo blobeye all the way
so imo blobeye all the way
Owned this for 3 1/2 years and loved it to bits, but after getting a daily driver decided to go with a project car...........P1 blob & classics are worlds apart to be honest, just depends what suits your driving style. Best try all modles that 8Gs will allow you to buy and make your own judgment good luck

not comparing the car, but next time you see a mark 1 mondeo take a look at the front

Also think about reliability and tuning potential Iam afraid its the newage scoobs , the 8,s and 9's strong engine , strong gear box,s strong everything and they look great , even though still like the classics , but alot weaker cars in every department jusk ask the tuners

I recently had a ride in a 2.5 Type-R and fell in love.... <300 bhp >300 ft.lb = MK II Escort type cornering on demand.
Mine 390 bhp STI, very capable, just no-where near as much fun.
Type-R is my vote.

im not anti classic in any way, they were very good cars in their day, now they are dated, if you dont have a choice then its fine, classic all the way over the other cars of the type, but if your lucky enough to have a choice then why spend 8 grand on an old car when you can have a much newer and more refined car of the same type for the same money, a simple remap will get you 300+ on an almost stock blob try that with a P1 you will end up replacing the engine
