Funny folk should mention audi's driving like they do and agreed it is usually the smaller models the rs4 etc boys leave me alone, though i did have a 3.0tdi nail it past when he went to overtake, paranoid that i was going to put my foot down maybe?
Meh i just leave them get on with it even if it means my driving slower, i have no time for such shenanigans.

Holding their value, simple, they are decent cars otherwise they wouldn't sell.

Brakes are more snatchy on the wife's mini.
Never crashed going over a bump.
FWD, as are a lot of cars, at least they wont spin out in snow or when the dtc fails.

I don't kiss BMWs **** - they make some cr4p cars, they charge silly money for "options" such as a steering wheel (and indicators), most of the drivers are muppets and they BS about mpg but I like the one I have.
Not in the trade, just driven many cars - guess that's what happens when you are an enthusiast?
Audis are basically made (apart from top end models) for those that want to look a bit flash but don't really push their cars. Up to 80% they are fine. Push them harder and they run out of ideas. They have become style over substance using cars like the RS4 and R8 to make lesser Audi owners think they are in something special. If you want quality over dynamics, get a Passat or an Octavia/Superb. If you want to pretend you are in an RS4 when you actually have a 140bhp engine in a 1.6 tonne car, get an S-Line A4 2.0TDI with all the trimmings. And get burnt off by base spec Focuses and Golfs in your near £30k car...

I've been a VAG man for 8 years for my work car and whenever the time comes to buy the next new car, I always look into the options of VW (Passat) and the garage next door's Audi (A4).
However, I can never justify the extra expense of buying a pretty basic A4. For less money I can always get a high-spec Passat estate, which offers far more room for my growing family as well as for shifting stuff. OK it's no thrill-a-minute motoring (I always have something else tucked away in the garage for that), but then again nor is a lowly A4. The Passat just does its job and isn't trying to be anything that it's not. Why pay more and get less?
The real performance Audis are presumably a breed-apart, but the other 90-odd % on our roads are nowt special IMO.

Why would anyone pretend they are in an RS4?
For some one into cars you have failed to notice the vast difference between an Sline car and a full blown rs.
Also not everyone is looking for races with Focuses and Golfs which is obviously what floats your boat.

Yes but they are a nice place to be. We have an A6 Avant that does the school run, shopping and family holidays, does everything it needs to. I did explain to my wife that we could have got a slightly younger or lower miles passat but we drove both and she really preferred the interior and the Bose stereo etc. She is in it 90% of the time and isn't the type to demand more feedback throught the steering at 9/10ths, as are I assume a vast majoity of the non RS market.

If more owners realised that they were simply driving an expensive Golf/Octavia with a bodykit and possibly a loud stereo then maybe there wouldn't be so many agreeing that at the moment, the typical Audi driver is a total ****. If you want a mile munching cruiser with a FWD few toys then get a Focus/Mondeo Astra/Insignia. If you MUST have a badge then get a Volvo. Which is fine but the marketing and owners seem to think even a bog standard A3 is some kind of uber refined rocket that rules the road.
Apart from the top end fast models, they just don't do anything other much cheapers cars can't do (and some do better) except swallow their own hype.

Ermmm - do you know anything about cars?
Same except:
They are all RWD (except some AWD) not FWD
They don't use their chassis/engine platforms for 3 other brands.
They are all well balanced.
They have steering feedback.
The brakes aren't snatchy.
So yes, exactly the same...

I can think of lots of models that are good within a brand but not one that makes nothing but great cars (well maybe some supercar brands...).

lol forgot about the supercar brands ! Agree with you on some of the comments, especially on the BMW "joy" of driving, think the joy went out of (the majority of) driving years ago - but then I'm getting older and grumpier every year !

I would have to agree that the majority of times when i'm cut up i tend to see those little rings in a line pretty regularly, nothing to do with the performance of the car as such, just the arseh0le driving it and insisting that i know it was them.

Maybe the classic Scoob, or an Elise. Cars like this are a class apart.
IMHO all Audis I have driven have been numb at either 3, 9 or 10/10ths so they just wouldn't feature on my desireable list.
As for 85. Typical Audi driver you would have passed me as I was doing 80

Yes, the A6 is pretty numb to drive at any tenth you care to choose, but still a nice place to be all the same. And TBH as soon as my wife liked it I made sure we bought it ASAP, it had taken me months to find any kind of family car she liked!!

I wouldn't say basically made - i don't have any rattles/ creaks/ bits falling off
style over substance - would you buy an ugly looking car just because it was relable?
why would anyone pretend they were in a RS4 if they were driving a TDi?
i'd prefer to drive a rattle/ creak free comfy S-Line which looks sporty/ classy to a base spec Focus or Golf (had higher spec versions those previously and didn't like them) and it wouldn't bother me getting "burnt off?" , if i felt so inadequate i'd get it remapped
