I had a HKS mushroom on my sti when I first bought it, not only did it keep throwing my engine management light on but above 5k the power just died. The only advantage it did have was that it made my exhaust quite a bit louder and the induction noise was nice.
I soon ditched it and went for a standard airbox with a Do-Luck panel filter inside it which gave a proven 12.9bhp increase in Japanese performance magazine on a completely standard 2005 sti, and the power doesn't seem to drop off until close to the redline now either

Any and ALL induction kits should only be fitted if mapping to suit, as they really screw with the MAF sensor. And in the time that they're fitted prior to remap, you shouldn't even hit boost.
However once mapped they are fine, BUT, and a big but at that, you still need to have a decent one, with decent heat shielding, cold air feed etc, or if you have a newage, realistically, stick with the panel filter unless you've gone for a front mount. Good for 400bhp..

H m8, need a favour, our newest member Steve (steveshergill) just bought my guages, but didnt read the advet properly, so didnt realise the senders didnt come with it, if he contacts you can he arrange to collect them, im sure he may even be happy to help you take them off the car, which should only take a few mins tbh..
Cheers H, did contemplate ringing you, don't like putting people out due to my own ineptitude :]
On a good note though, did 1016 miles this weekend, to Belgium and back, car never missed a beat, well happy with it, and the ~34/35mpg I managed

well not only have I got to pick my car up tomorrow after having my new goodies fitted but I've also got a telephone interview too, I'm hoping to get this one as it's quite a nice pay rise over my current salary which will mean more to spend on the car lol
afternoon all I collected the car earlier on with the coilovers and alloy drop links fitted and all I can say is wow, I've not had a chance to take it for a proper blast yet but so far I'm amazed at the difference its made even at normal road speeds.
All I can say to anyone thinking about getting coilovers is DO IT lol and if you don't then I have some prodrive springs from my 2003 STI that i want £80 for lol

Few ups and downs this week. Car had a hissy fit at the weekend but will be back tomorrow fully mapped and sorted. But then heard some news about a mate who's car was written off last night

In the exhst place havin my new exhst cut and welded - sigh! Anyway quick heads up about the monster truck event @ beckets farm if u were thinking of going - DONT! what a total waste of monry the first hour consisted of a guy on a 200cc bike jumping a 10 foot gap then ending with two guys jumping a small ramp on frickin bmx's hum not realy the petrol fest we were expecting. Last half hour had a guy trying to get his 4x4 on 2 wheels i must admit though on the 3rd go he did actualy go atleast 10 feet so well done to him! Then ending up with the 2 monster trucks coming out for the last 5 mins i recon thet traveled no more than 200 yards each what a total RIP OFF! if it wasnt for my lad being with me i would have walked out demanding a refund. He was looking forward to this for ages the poor kid looked totally cheesed off with the whole thing. Tbh the highlight of the evening was eating a hot pastie - nuf said
