compared to America and Europe (switzerland and andora excepted) we do not have a particularly high tax economy,

many European countries have a wealth/super tax and much stronger rules on non dom status etc etc etc

America has federal and state taxes -- every citizen has to fill out a tax return, - a condition of american citizenship, even if you have never set foot in the US

re regulation -- France, Germany have employment laws that would make most UK employers run for the lavatory

Germany has recycling laws that would have scoobynetters running for the hills

France you would not believe. Its hard to find a job in France, because no-one ever gets sacked, its impossible to sack people.

It took then four years to squander away the strong economy that they inherited, and it has been downhill all the way from there.

Depressingly though, I can see them getting in again this time.

Reason? LOADS who won't vote at all. A "thick-core" of Labour voters who don't see what they have done, or are in a position not to care. LOADS who won't vote Tory because of what Pete says, and LOADS more who think that the parties are all the same so what's the point, not voting Tory anyway. Plus the thousands that will vote for them because they got citizenship, or can sit on their @rses all day and just pop out a kid every year, we'll pay.

Gordon for another 5 years would be my bet. I might have a little flutter, see if I can cheer myself up when it does happen

With practical pragmatism like that I'd vote for you rather then the current incompetents who cant seem to see the wood from trees (even if they did they'd choke them in a forest of waffle and spin)!!!

Depressingly its probably I best hedge my bets in a similar way though if what you say is likely

I can see a LOT of protest votes in this election....

Both UKIP and the BNP will do very well I expect.......

People are just fed up with the big 3 and want change, the only way people can see change ever happening in politics is by NOT voting for the same old big 3, and going for a 'out there' party. I think most people will vote for someone, they just won't vote for the big 3. Hence my prediction.

Wonder what will happen if the BNP & UKIP win a few dozen seats each....I can imagine it happening.....

Seems to me that the New Labour 'project' is well on course for success...

A History Lesson or what you will?

“Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalised, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism”

Karl Marx, Das Kapital, 1867
Shame so many are too ingorant to see what is happening...

Great post except that quote IS NOT in Das Kapital and nor is anything like it.

And you accuse Gordon Brown of being economical with the truth. Still why let fact get in the way of you agenda eh?

I regret to say that Alcazar is probably right. You never know-a miracle might happen though. There is still time to turn it around.

I am truly bereft to see a once great country going down the tubes as it has been, and if this load of lying two faced creeps get in again we shall probably see the end of it completely and Orwells prophecy will be proved to be correct.

I am not looking forward to the "gauleiters" from over the water tramping around ordering us about and checking our papers when they feel like it!

I am torn as to whether I should comment on this, as it might open the floodgates. But they should know that all they will get from me is what they got a few hundred years ago, two fingers. Check them.

Long hot summer.

England lift the World Cup.

Labour win a record Election.

Economy strong and secure in experienced hands.

Cameron and Osbourne wiping away their tears with £50 notes ......

Ashcroft leaves the UK with his tail between his rear end ..

Roll on Summer!!

Labour win a record Election. Bloody hope not.

Economy strong and secure in experienced hands. Not a chance.

Cameron and Osbourne wiping away their tears with £50 notes ...... Judging by the state of the economy, the £1 will be reinstated for tear wiping purposes.
Ashcroft leaves the UK with his tail between his rear end ..Not bothered either way. He is not the first and wont be the last either.
Roll on Summer!! Oh yes, roll on summer!

Agree only on a couple. Brown has to go, get an Englander to drive us out of the darkness.

By the time that has happened, you will not only not be able to do anything about it, but you will doubtless be taken off for "re-education" and maybe even a visit to Room 101!

.........and still no-one can say what the Tories stand for. What is their vision for the next 10 years.

Anyone?

As I've said before, Im in two minds here. Either the Tories will come out and say what their policies are when it is too late for Lying Labour to nick them, or.....................they will go on as they are because they don't really want the poison chalice that will be governing the UK for AT LEAST the next five years.
