One thing does niggle me though, and I've posted asking for an explanation before, do you really think that anyone who bought the Subaru hatch did so without testing the opposition? For me 6 cars tested – outright winner by a country mile the hatch Impreza STi. So who knows about the hatch and it's competitors?

By the way still loving it, and I will be buying another car (new) in about 8 months, and at the moment it looks like it will be another STi hatch. Life does go on.
LOL at your hypocrisy. You seem ONLY able to post about how great youir Impreza hatch is.

I don't like it when someone disagrees with my hatch hating stance???? Where did I say that? I am just arguing my case (one backed up by Subaru UK's woeful current sales figures), having an opinion and making my point on an internet forum designed for the discussion of Subarus. Surely that is acceptable or are we all supposed to say nice things to each other and hold hands even when someone is talking utter rubbish

As for hating its drivers. Again where did I say that? Come on, where???? Nowhere as it happens so why say such a stupid thing? I had a pop at Scooby L who seemd happy to warn me that my 10 year old rust bucket could become a mobile tomb and took a swipe at my intelligence, but the fact he drives a hatch is neither here nor there. If someone who drove a proper Scoob had said that then they would get the same treatment. In truth you should really direct the insults comment at him as I was only reacting to what I got .... still that wouldn't suit your agenda would it now?

Anyway I am not here to mince words, it's a discussion forum and this is a discussion is it not?

Shame Subaru do not sell any Commercial vehicle s in UK,
I could be tempted by a Forrester Commercial with the diesel engine, perfect for my job.
Or even a "cheap" Hatchback Van. or Legacy based van.
They are reliable vehicles and would suit Building/Forrestry trade etc.
There is a market for this type of vehicle, Reneault are only company to offer a small light weight 4wd van! (But I wonder how reliable it would be?)

I'm made up with mine.
few people are buying them because speeding and fast cars are becoming as antisocial as drink driving.
Remember the days when you had one more (pint) for the road.
£400+ road tax has also something to do with it.

The 1.5 and 2 litre cooking models are selling even less thane the WRX so how does speeding and fast cars have anything to do wth it?

got to admit f1_fan when reading your posts it's quite clear to see that you don't like the hatch, you also don't seem to like people who disagree with you, you like to be quite sarcastic in some of your replys, you think that your opinion is the only one that should count, and you don't seem to like anything positive about subaru.
so the the only question i have is...why are you on this forum? your not really discussing anything just arguing with people and trying to get a rise out of them.

subaru is a niche market it never will be as big as bmw, mercedes, audi and unless you know what subaru is about then trying to get people away from the big name brands is going to be hard, snobbery also plays a big part though as a lot of people do associate subaru with boy racer types so they don't even look twice at the legacy because it's a scooby.

Cobblers fella! We all like fast cars on here & dare I say it, Imprezas too. Sales have gone down cos it's one ugly car, it's a hatch thus alienating most scoob owners from the last 10yrs, quality seems p*ss poor against older scoobs let alone current competition etc etc.

You may have guessed that I'm not a fan

i own a classic and love it, but if i had the money i could be swayed by a hatch, a couple of tweaks to the suspension and your on to a winner with them. people on here keep saying the sales are bad but you only have to think back to when the impreza was first released in the uk in 1994, it bombed, autocar said it was nice but very tacky, god damn ugly, unrefined, not nice to live with and they thought they would fall apart like most rally based cars, but when they got one and drove it for nearly a year they relalised what a car it was. its the same with the hatch, its probably a car that needs to have its looks ignored and needs to be experienced for a while, it may be heavier and have lots of safety features but why does that annoy some people, if they didn't make things safer we'd still be on two pots with a cardboard shell round us. also what many people forget is that the classic didn't really sell in many other countries yet the hatch is doing quite well all round the world, especially in the much better markets ie america, who is gonna give a **** about a two bit country like us when they can sell thousands more elsewhere. good luck to them i say and it was a bold statement of them trying to take the car in a new direction instead of it becoming the same old stale car that is compared to the original all the time.

You say that like it's a problem

Just saying it as I see it and if that's how I come across to a few of you then I couldn't care less.

Oh and you're right I don't like the hatch much like most of the automotive press and the car buying public.

f1_fan.

I am starting to get concerned about your anti hatch obsession

We have all heard, over many months, your views and we do get the message that you are not keen

Move on my friend, take some tablets or try hypnotherapy, it may help

Thanks for your concern, but there is no need as I am fine and not so wedded to a brand that I can't admit when that brand makles a huge mistake

car markets have changed over the years.Remember when the Impreza turbo came here in 1994 there were very few cars costing 17k with that level of performance.Once people looked passed its quirky looks(some press even said then its pig ugly)and witnessed the performance and reliability, all in a practical 4 door package, that was as fast as certain super cars of the era, then it looked like bloody good bargain, and affordable to run.I am sure no one bought one just for its looks back then either.Roll on 16years with anti car governments,**** green policies etc but also out of turn other marques closing the performance gap to the impreza and competing on price too.Its a much harder market now to sell in.maybe the Impreza created a boy racer image for itself alienating more people now?Thinking that ALL Subaru's are boy racer cars?I had 2 classic impreza's,a GT turbo and a WRX RA and latter a bug-eye STi.I tried the new hatch WRX and STi and think they are better cars, the STi does look stunning with the wide arches.I would love the new STi but its a bit to expensive for me right now,but thinking of the diesel.
I think Subaru have always made non mainstream quirky looking cars, but once you have owned one you get to like what its about,a good dependable solid no BS car.I have a Forester XT,have it for nearly 6years.Think its been one my best Subaru's yet.
But I can see where F1_fan is coming from, maybe Subaru need to look at the styling more,to attract more mainstream buyers???

Ford seem to be selling the rs focus pretty well!! subaru should get back to the rally scene!! it was the best advert for there cars !! also they should make a diesal impeza with all the sti trimmings!! like peugout did with that 306tdi all them years back!! the new cosworth sounds like a winner cos it will make the impreza more extreme again, the likes of ford rs ,vauxhall vxrs,vw gtis etc have all caught up with the scoobies and evos !! plus i think the new impreza shape is a grower!! especially now they are getting modded!! the new gobstopper images look very cool

Beefing up the WRX and diesel to STI bodywork might help sales, and the D-STI.....

I havent seen an "rs"s on the road yet, anywhere. Seen a couple of VXrs and probably about 4 hatch STIs in the last 2 years. Fast cars just dont sell in the numbers they used to.
The green lot have won. Look at all the 09/59 plates. They are all fiestas/hyundais/fiat 500s
