New Zen dry sump tank installed:

This sits behind the driveshaft/cv joint at the bottom and is very secure in that location giving clearance to a strut brace, starter motor and everything else. An inspirational use of space IMO.

They do indeed.

[zen advert]
The baffles and mechanism inside the tank are well tested on lots of applications and now adapted to Paul's design for Subaru installs with all the breathers and fittings in just the right place for both classics and newages along with a good capacity.

Cant wait til I pop the engine back in to see it all in place in there.

As far as other progress, DCCD wiring from Syvecs is going in today so that I can control through the ecu rather than the std controller. Will be handy for 1/4 mile launches and for track use. First I need to make a small adjustment to the wiring on the avcs solenoids to reduce the load on the ecu.

Also ... have 2 spare outputs on the ecu ... I wonder what they could control

Picked these little beauties up today ...

Kelford 272 cams R-199-C

11.30mm lift intake
10.70 lift exhaust
272 duration on both

Should make it breathe a little easier

Forgot to ask if you need to uprate the springs/retainers with these or can you use your stock items?

I know Ross (Ross Sport) has been has been selling Kelford 272's and the evo boys have been loving them and getting some great results. Have been looking at the 272's thinking they will be ideal with my V8 heads.

make sure the trigger pattern on the end of the intake cams match Duncan.

I've had this problem when looking for replacement ones for mine.

Mine are identical to those in your picture however On the STI 8 engine that I bought they had completely different ends on them. If you look on the Kelford site you'll be able to see the two different profiles.

Theres a US Spec and a Jap Euro Spec. They changed to be the same at some point but I'm unsure of when the crossover was.

The ones in the picture are US spec I think. If you have a later engine then they are all the same.

, my mate is just about to text him for a price, small world! I've read you don't need to uprate the springs unless your going over 8k but not heard this from a tuner (might be one of those internet myths).

Daz, from the kelford site, the V7-10 ej20 are:

'machined to have four protruding 'paddle wheel' style triggers. If your engine has the three 'keyway / slot' style triggers, you need to see our EJ25 range with the R-199 part numbers.'

Do you know if these can be seen by removing the timing belt cover?

You should be able to see by removing the rocker covers.

The R199C fit mine perfectly - I havent measured the slot gaps to see where they fit with the std cams but I have a set of std STi cams sitting here I could line them up against each other to see.

The kalfoord site suggests that valve springs are a possible upgrade but not essential. I am going to run with std valves/springs unless someone gives me a good reason not to. I want to specifically see whether there is any power to be had for changing cams at around the 600 bhp mark. I suspect there will be but I will do before/after dyno runs.

I'd need the same ones Duncan. Its the earlier ones that have the protuding triggers.

I already have supertec valves, double springs, and titanium retainers. So will just need cams. I'll email Ross sport for a price

Dave, I will be uprating mine this winter as I rev past 8k. A tuner has recommended I do so

Any cams with a higher lift i would change the springs to avoid pushing the stock springs beyond their limits and possibly binding them.
Most aftermarket springs have higher seat pressures too which in turn put more pressure on the valve seats and increase the risk of a stock 2 piece valve separating at high RPMs. So i would also be changing the valves too Dunc.

Just some food for thought.

Daz/Dunc, AFAIK the US spec and all 2.5ltr motors all have the keyway slots for teh cam sensor triggers. The uk/jdm 2ltrs have the protruding paddles.

Daz, your 2.5ltr D25 WRX heads will have the keyways too.

I had the same when i was going to run those heads too. My OE cam sensors are a 2 pin type and read the paddle type cams. The sensors for the keyway cams are a 3 pin affair.

I decided to go with 2ltr heads with the cams that matched my sensors rather than trying to rewire parts of the loom etc.
