I'm looking at going the linered block route myself in the near future, so this information would be of interest, all things being equal.

I believe Darton liners are the ones to go for and it is all about the process surrounding the liner fitment/machining and piston to match more than anything else iirc.
Remember I am still on an OE 2.5 block case and it has taken (so far) a right old pounding for 16k+ miles, you can't keep expecting reliability imo with the use/power I want to throw at it.
Duncan's total mileage will give some extra info into the mix..... don't forget his rings/pistons went. I don't seem to pick up that the liners or block were actually at fault, just a knock on from the ring / piston damage that damaged one liner.
Linered 2.5 is one of my options, so I am interested in ones that seem to have a proven history.

But on the other hand if i could start again it would definately be a ej22 with a 2.5 crank
Linered is good imo - darton are the ones to have.
The linered block had done 35,000 miles since the original build at 450-600 bhp. All but one liner are fine and the old liner will be pressed out and a new darton liner put on once i can get one from the states. It will probably do another 40,000 miles beyond that with no issues.
The piston rings going were the reason for the damage. There is zero droppage, zero ovaling on any of the bores.
If done properly they are extremely strong and reliable but there is always a weakpoint. In this case it was a combination of a lack of lubrication in the bore caused by the very effective oil scraper ring on the piston and the bioethanol fuel. There was a small amount of det damage but any race engine will have this - if it doesnt then you arent pushing it hard enough IMO.
Anyway ... new block with new darton liners is ready and machined by Dave Knight Engineering who have an excellent reputation and people shouting about how good they are in all marques. They talk plain english and do what they promise.
I will pick this up in the morning and along with new Mahle pistons (the stronger version than the ones i had in there) supplied by Mark at Lateral and get them back to mine ready for Tim Farmer (http://www.sub-bus.co.uk/) who used to be at Zen and I to build up the short block tomorrow afternoon/evening/night....
Thursday to bolt it all together (with Julians help) and possibly drop into the car. if not this will happen on friday ready for running in, some map changes and a trip over to see Paul to do some alignment on it ..
Fingers crossed all will go well and I will drive it down to Brands on sat afternoon, drop the running in oil out and have a nice barbeque with Steve and Soos.
Huge thanks to Mark at Lateral, Paul at Zen, Dave Knight, Tim, Julian, Donna and anyone that knows me

major hiccups yesterday. It is NEVER easy and yesterday was a day when it wasnt even just hard.

The plan changed at least three times yet again due to circumstances beyond my control.
So.... I should have a revised block back from the machine shop again tomorrow. This time bored out to 99.75 to fit some Cosworth Pistons too that were grabbed from Cosworth right at the close of play yesterday and dropped over to the machine shop as they were closing the doors.
Tim isnt around to help me build it though so my Julian (best mate, volunteer team mechanic, sausage roll provider and cheereruperer) and I are going to build it over at Zen with the boxes of parts that I had nicely laid out in my garage and get as much as we can do built. Fingers crossed this will be a full long engine but i suspect there will be yet more dramas and disasters.
The Fat lady is clearing her throat but Paul and I keep hitting her with a big stick telling her to shut up. I will not be beaten lardy woman
(at least not yet)
So many thank-yous I cant even begin to list them.

The standard liners in the 2.5 engine are very thin and are not the strongest in the world. The Darton ductile liners are as strong as **** and so long as they dont drop (this has happened to some people) are virtually unburstable.
