Torture - the old moral question
The scenario says "they have a guy in custody and they know that he alone has planted a huge bomb somewhere in London which is due to go off in a couple of hours, killing thousands."
...except that they don't "know"!!!
One slight intel-mistake and it could mean that it is your ********* being slashes by the interrogators razer blades

Maybe the security services could start in Holland by not allowing people from Africa board a plane to America without a passport (but with baggy pants)?

I agree that in the very specific circumstances that DL described the intel services might 'have to' do things they shouldn't.
But most of the torture carried out in the name of the 'war on terror' is not conducted against the backdrop of an imminent threat. How do people feel about this? And how would we feel if 'our people' end up getting tortured by the 'enermy' as a result?
