and if you want some neons too, go ahead. Go well with the dump valve & turbo whistle.

In the end it is up to you, it is your car and your choice to do whatever you want to it.
My first scooby 02 had a vta which i fitted and loved but after reading alot of threads where ppl say it is mostly detrimental to your engine performance i have decided to keep the standard recirc on my now rb320 so your choice and what ever makes you happy, thaqts what you should go with.

I see this not going anywhere, if you want one get one. I have one on, needed to as sti8 top mount i could only fit one DV and that was the forge one. But going to come off soon, going back to TD series turbo.

not chavvy no but pointless if there is no benefit.ok if you like the noise but it would have to be remapped to run right i think.

i have been having the same conversation with my wife.

she cannot differentiate between what she calls ratboys and scooby, evo, skyline etc owners.

to her they all ratboys.

i have tried to explain that scoobys are what ratboys dream of.true ratboys cannot afford a scooby so they have a 6 inch tailpipe and wide body kit that never actually got sprayed the right colour all on a 1.2 fiesta.

covered in halfords bits but only ever the cheapest version of a mod.
the vast majority of scooby owners are not ratboys, chavs or anything else you want to call them whether they have a dump valve or not

chavs in the old days would be referred to as scaliwags. Normally unruly teenagers up to no good. I think all the chav items such as nike air max dvs and whatever else people choose to call chav items is mistaken for popularity amongst the younger generation ie they like the fashion. Buy it. wear it. And go show it off to their mates.. Who then proceed to do the same. I have a dv on mine it was on when i bought it.. Didnt mind the noise ...... But saying that its been off road 5 months so didnt get time to decide if i liike the pitsssh or not

I dont think dump valves a chavvy but they do start to p1ss you off after a while! As already said they are a pointless mod unless running big power!

Whats wrong with functionality. Thats the line between a nicely modified car and a bazzed up chav mobile.

That was true at one point. But when you can pick up an Impreza turbo for £1200 it means alot can afford to buy one. (good example: 1996 SUBARU Impreza Turbo 2000 4WD Barring the knackered rear bumper and 190K on the clocks, it looks pretty straight and unmolested - UK car to boot, so cheaper to insure and should run on 95RON ).

Although, once they get hold of one, they usually don't last long.

Against my better nature, and in recognition that it takes all sorts to make the world go around, a guide to dump valves.

Any car with standard MAF sensor intercooler and airbox. Put the "aftermarket" dump valve down and back away. (run in fact)
Any car with standard MAF sensor and intercooler but induction kit. Ditto, but be careful with the mapping, as you've likely buggered it up.
Any car with standard MAF but FMIC and induction kit. Choose wisely, you need a double piston VTA or recirc valve.
Any car with MAP sensor, it doesn't matter much which one you use, but a double piston VTA or recirc is less, er, chavvy.
Some turbos are man enough so you don't need one at all. They make all kinds of snorty noises due to stalling, which can cause excitement. Ask your turbo supplier what he thinks re valve/no valve, and do what the man says.

LOL at this thread lets face facts here Subaru Impreza's (scoobies) are seen as chav machines if we like to amitt it or not, we all get labeled because thats the imagine any impreza turbo has, cheap high perfomance car that can be found on any council estate, a dump valve or exhaust isnt going to make you look any more chavy than we already do to the gen public.

even though its a uk spec and can run on 95ron my subaru mec reakons you should only do it for short periods of time and run it on 98 most of the time or your engine will die early,
as to d.v its his car , we all have our own ideas as to wots in or out, every ones different , it would be a boring world if we were'nt , when i was a kid i used to think that the general lee (dukes of hazard)and a lambogini contash (i think thats how you spell it )were the to coolest cars around, ,, o my god how things change,

Remember what the question was:-

Are dump valves chavvy?

I think, almost without exception, the clear answer is a resounding YES!

Whether anyone fits them is for them to decide .... but that wasn't the question

VTA dump valves are not chavvy.

i like the sound of a dump valve and dont think they are chavvy at all in fact i have just fitted a forge one to mine and im no chav i see it as one of the perks to owning a turbo,d motor as its one mod your lowly halfords kitted saxo,s cant have. if you listen to what different people think is chavvy a lot of them think all subarus in general are chavvy rally graphics and lexus lights or not but yet here we all are on this site showing we are the proud owners of them so are we all chavs?
