Saxo Boy,
Fancy coming along to a Rolling Road day at Star Performance in late April?
The Scottish lads over at SeatCupra.net have arranged it!
We'll see if yer 'mini beast' is pushing more than it should!

Yeah, that is impressive for a VTS.
Is it standard?
Did you shed any items to reduce weight?!
I've had mine on a RR twice now and it makes more power than it should do! There were some LAD tune VTS's there that made less than mine, which amused me!
Would be interested to see what you got with your VTS.
Never taken mine to do a 1/4 mile test but wouldn't mind having a go.

I'd consider the rollers to see what sort of power she'd put out - remember I'm saving for the Scooby so I wouldn't do it if it was really expensive. I took the spare steel wheel out but that's all, probably saved me 20kg.
Had one of the alloys off the other week and they are really heavy!!! There must be a lot to be said for upgrading to lightweight alloys.

Totally standard BTW, I had order a de-cat pipe but noticed a sensor going into the exhaust downstream from the Cat and figured Citroen would know at the next service and cancel my warranty so I cancelled it.

I think you'd have saved more taking the 6 stone brother/son/cousin/friend out of the passenger seat
20kg was guess work BTW - i was crapping it that the sharp stones at the far end of the track would give me a puncture!!
£15 sounds reasonable. I was quite surprised at the value for money today as well atually, I expected it might have cost more. £6 to come and view is particularly good!

Saxo Boy, reading this with interest, it is as quick as you reckon, nice one !
I suspect that the VTS must be one of those cars that makes more than stock, what mileage has it done ?
As I have mentioned before I have just aquired a mint MK2 Golf GTI 1.8 8 Valve to replace my Pug 309 and have driven loads of them before and noticed HUGE variations between then so like you say, the 'Good un' thing is no myth. I am now wondering what the Golf would do a quarter in, I reckon its making over standard due to the SS exhaust and chip, however I dont think 15.3 is acheivable just yet, I dont think a 16 valve GTI could do that, come to think of it, I have seen Scoobs run slower than that !

Cheers Mark. The Saxo has done 27,000 miles in just over a year I think there is a lot be said for carefully running a car in and then making sure you keep the oil topped up/make sure everything is running fine. I also give her a good thrashing every day or so - fully throttle/full rev run. My aunt had a Corsa GSi and it got really badly gunked up cause she never revved it like it was designed to be.
There was a very poor golf turn out today, I was looking out for a MK1 so that I could try to disprove Mr J Clarkson!! I raced a Corrado but can't for the life of me remember the result

The only Mark 1 that would do that is a modded one !
I had a 140 BHP GTI Engineering 1900 Mark 1 which was quick. Never managed to 1/4 mile though, I have been on the GTI forum, there are 200 bhp golfs that have only run 15.5 !

Still would have been nice to play with a golf, esp a VR6. I got totally humped by a clapped out (looking) Nova!! That said my passenger was watching his car and it got through its gears much quicker - I suspect a short ratio gearbox and a transplant. Nevertheless, respect!

15.3 with a Passenger !
I suspect that you are both fairly low mass individuals !
My mate Derek got in my GTI tonight and slowed it down by a considerable amount, I weigh 100 kilos and my head touches the roof, Derek weighs more and his head touches the roof, knees touch the dash and I suspect the chassis touched the floor, remember Police Academy !
Doesnt really affect the T5 though !

No when Ali was in it was the the high 15/low 16's but we are both quite well built. I'd love to start throwing bits out of my car to see how much faster it would go but unfortunatly I need it every day and probably wouldn't be able to put them all back in again in the correct order. The VTS is joke slow when its got 5 adults in it, it's also joke cramped!!

See ya all in my mirror....... Until we hit a corner...... Understeer arhhhhhh......
over 240lb/ft of torque at 1,200rpm
Sorry couldn't resist the mine is faster than yours bit I know I still won't beat every scooby but I supprise the hell out of most. In a straight line.....

Also on topic I would just like to add I've driven a 106 GTI never driven a saxo but I would assume they are very similar... And yes I agree for a 1.6 they move very well... When my car was standard it would struggle to leave one by much until we got upto speed where the 2L pulls a lot stronger...
Cheers

Figured it would be a 2.0 16v, that's quite a common transplant for the Nova is it not? Very effective though!! What do you drive Longun, I don't think you've stated it anywhere, I've studied the picture and would guess a 306 meaning GTI but as it's white so maybe more chance of it being the Rallye! At least I have luggage space though

Saxoboy,
That is very impressive for a Saxo, I must admit. I got taken out for a ride in one the other day, by someone who can drive VERY well, and I was slightly impressed!
I bow to that 1/4 mile time. I am suitably impressed.

Cheers Rich. Before I went I wanted to prove to myself that she was quicker than the quoted 16.1 1/4 mile and decided that anything under 16 would be good enough for me. I was so chuffed that I averaged in the mid to low 15's. I also noticed that I set the 15.3 with only an average reaction time.
At the end of the day a lot of any type of driving even in a straight line has a lot to do with the driver.

That is a good time-I've seen a standard Escort Cossie do it in about that!Obviously a lot of it is down to driver skill though. What was your terminal speed?I would expect mid 80s mph from that time for a 1.6.

Terminal was usually 88-89mph. Actually quite annoying the way it worked out as I had to change from 3rd to 4th a matter of metres from the line, if she could have revved 100rpm more in each gear I'd have saved a fair bit by crossing the line in 3rd!!
#202
Sometimes it's better to shortshift into 4th as your engine power is usually dying off for the last 1k or so revs-I find if I stay in 3rd I get to 98mph and then the car hits the limiter,so change to 4th at about 90-95 and get a better time with the terminall speed roughly the same.

In the VTS you need the revs to be as high as possible after the change for the next gear so you really need to pull to just before the limiter, besides there is very little power tail off after peak at 6,600rpm. I'll maybe give that a try next time just to see.

Saxoboy -
When mine was on the RR in January...
It made 134.0bhp at 7150rpm in 4th gear at 108.8mph (limiter @ 7250rpm), with a peak of 141.3bhp at 6250rpm in 4th gear at 95.1mph, all figures are flywheel.
Basically, they don't drop off much at the top so you can wind them right up to the redline.
The 106 has slightly different ratios to the VTS, longer in fact, so I may have been able to hold on to 3rd?!
What speed can your Saxo hit flat-out in 3rd?!

Indicated 85ish +/- 1mph in 3rd. I also think - one the basis of the terminal speeds at Crail - that the speedo is very accurate. Worryingly at one point on Sunday I was going so fast the wind was beginning to force its way in through the sunroof

Cool! I must admit you'd expect lower than 14.5 with a supercharger fitted. The standard alloys actually looked not too bad painted white! I think that confirms that I should trade up to a scooby rather than try and tune the Saxo, I think it would take too much money and sacrifice too much reliability to get a VTS to go as well as a scooby in a straight line.

Aaaah...
I've seen those supercharged Saxo's before!
Quick little cars and would certainly surprise a few things out there. Exactly which one(s) was/were there then?!
They've been at a couple of trackdays at Three Sisters in Wigan when I've been there in mine and they can fairly shift!!!
