Volvo 850R:
Power - 250bhp
0-60 - 7.8secs
1/4 Mile - 16.3secs
Peugeot 106 GTi:
Power - 120bhp
0-60 - 7.4secs
1/4 Mile - 16.5secs
So go on... where's the massive difference?!

I was talking 850 T5-R which can do the 0-60 in 6.7 seconds and the 1/4 mile in around 14.6 so there is a fair diff

Not too keen on Saxo's myself but everyone to their own.
I have noticed that they appear to tbe the most miserable gits when it comes to Crail 1/4 mile tho. Most of them appear to think they can line up next to any car (Scooby Turbo/Cosworth/Calibra Turbo) and win.
Any times I have run you get a smile.wave/thumbs up from the other driver and its all a laugh. The Saxo crowd give you that dodgy side ways glance
Again, at the bottom, both drivers give a thumbs up etc no matter who wins but the Saxo drivers (who inevitably are 2nd against these cars mentioned above) just growl at you
This attitude is a running joke on another board I go to.

That's because they are fooled into thinking they are really quick and have a chance.
For a 1.6 litre normally aspirated car they are pretty quick and can match or beat quite a few things on the road, so they get cocky. They get it in their mind that they may actually have a chance and are gutted when they get beaten!
I love my 106 GTi, but I also live in the real world and know what to challenge and what to respect.
The first time I drove my mates EvoVI is was shocked at how quick it was. Not just off the mark, but all speeds in all gears and not even needing much throttle. The thing will just lift off and go until you stop it!
There are fast cars and then there are fast cars. It all depends what league your in.
Not driven (or even had a ride in) an Impreza, sat in a couple but that's it, but I want one for my next car so it's only a matter of time.
The 106 will be going in the next few weeks and then it's Scooby time, but a UK car or a WRX?! Not sure yet...

Na Carlos its not. Its for the whole UK (and abroad) but many ppl from down south have come up and stated the same thing without prompting so its gotta be true (from my own experience as well).

With regards to VTS v Scooby Turbo (or any 2 litre turbo for that matter) there is no contest.
The torque levels achieved by any 2000cc turbo charged car at any RPM is something only a 1600cc N/A car can dream of. A minimum of 200lb/ft from 2500RPM to the red line aint shabby.....
Saxo Boy, have you been in a 2 litre turbo charged car before ??

Sounds a bit silly, but this Saxo tried giving it the other day to me as well. Don't quite know why he bothered. It was a VTS, so I kept level with him whilst he was ragging it, and then I put my foot down...
330 brake cossie and he wanted to race me? Oh dear....

SaxoBoy,
Do your self a favour, go out and have a test drive in a scooby....you will not be dissapointed!! I had one and all I can say is the saxo is up for sale, my girlfriend, my mum, my cat my everything! lol
I rate the Saxo highly, I've had good times with it against alot of car with alot more power (who left me behind but not as far as they hoped) bar the reliability problems for the money I personally don't think you can get better!!
As for the pic of the speedo.....it is very possible to get that reading on a VTS got it twice now and to be frank in a car of that size scared the **** out of me! and I don't suggest that this sort of drive is clever coz it aint
Anyway tht's my 10 pences worth
MikeD
p.s. Alrite bealy?

Richie1 has touched on a very interesting point! I'm 23 and work a respectable job and everytime I line up (where conditions allow) next to something comparible - another hot hatch or 328, etc - I can't bring myself to look at the other driver. I'd love to look over and give a wee smile and a wave but I feel persecuted when I drive the VTS, people know your cars fast and will keep up, but they seem to just think your a dick. I hate the image with a cheap hot hatch, I think 40 years olds driving the VTS would still be made to feel like a little teenage hooligan! I trust the scooby brings a lot more respect! And by the way I'd never dream of trying to beat a turbo but I would race one to see what kind of distance he/she could put on me. My favourite races (that sounds so childish :eek ) are the ones where I get beaten by something good.
As for the scooby I've driven all three versions the 208bhp, the 215bhp and the new one and I loved them but I need to spend more time in one. I'm going to try and arrange an extended test drive (perhaps a half-day or day) so that I can really get the chance to drive her properly. All that said I still love the Saxo, I was out in her today in the sun and nailed it up a slip road and she was really wanting to go it was just brilliant. Still no g-force though

Good luck finding one Graham, they are far rarer on the roads than a scooby (you'll find hundreds of VTR's though). As for the Paxo one, heard it all before...amusing though! Gave the Saxo its spring clean yestarday, feel like the Karati Kid today

Fully agree with you saxo boy..... I have a 106 GTI and i love it!!!!!!!
I also loved the look on my mates face the day he picked up his brand new WRX when he couldn'd catch me on a twisty back road!!!
On the right road the 106GTI/VTS are not to be messed with!!

Don’t know what you lot are even arguing about a 172 would leave a VTS for dust and I don’t care what stat’s you bring up a 172 WILL wipe the floor with a VTS I have seen it with my own two eye’s on the road and on the track, even more so round corners, what do you Saxo boy’s think your diving Ferrari’s or something you wouldn’t have a chance stop dreaming and get a real hot hatch. Renault and you know it!

Tell that to Mike at work everytime I stay two car lengths behind his 172 all the way home. The 172 is quicker but by the smallest of amounts....Deal with it or buy a faster car!!

I have been away for the Bank Hol Weekend, cant believe you lot are still at it !
This afternoon I realised the difference between a hot hatch and a moderately quick car is, if anybody knows the Rhualt hill outside Denbigh in North Wales then thats the one, a very long fairly steep hill with 4 lanes. A Lupo GTI had been up my chuff for some time and gone past showing me how quick it was (and it was fairly quick), gets to the bottom of this hill I go to lane 3 the other two are full of F***** Caravans and matey goes into 4 to destroy the (fulley laden) T5 he has been sat behind for ten mins, I let him get alongside and then nail it as he expected me to do (he looked over) and lo and behold he pulls about half a car length on me until the boost arrived and that was it, end of story, goodbye.
Thats the difference kids, between a hot hatch and something with double the power.
Mind you the trip computer thingy did read 6.4 mpg at that point

Re: Clarkson video
I think we should send a petition, I bought the video and even as a big fan of the MK1 Golf could not quite comprehend what I was seeing. That Silver one has been in his other vid as well, nasty body kit that.
Id still rather have a sorted MK1 GTI than any of the rest though.

It is true though that people have strong feelings about the Saxo - it's a bit like Marmite in the way that you either love it or hate it!
I hate it because most of the drivers think they have the quickest car on the road.
So what's the Saxo VTS produce? 130 bhp tops? Then how can you say it will stay with a 172 or a 306 GTi6, when both of those cars have an infinitely better chassis and 40 more horsepower? It can only be down to the drivers that you reckon you've raced if your VTS even keeps up.
The Saxo is a great seller for Citroen, but a performance car it is not.
Know your limits mate - it'll make you a much better person

depends on what saxo vts newier ones like mine have 130bhp but that was not until 2001 (I think) where as the older versons have 120bhp.
Why they keep up? (and I'm not saying that they do coz I have not been up against either) It could have something to do with the power to weight ratio the saxo is a very light car and 130bhp is a fair bit in such a small car.
I know that I can not take a scooby I have tried and been left behind as if I was in reverse!! (STI V5) but I think the point saxoboy is making and that is for the money and it size they can put same to alot of bigger more powerful cars!
I think it's a good start into performance car very much like the Golf Gti was in it hay day. It cheap and cheerful and fun to drive what more could you want from a little FRENCH motor!!
