I just want to add - that even though we used to call Hillcrest the Snakepit I personally like the area. My ex misses lived just around the corner just down from the Blaentillery.
Aber used to full of XR3's 3i's RS's Cosworths etc. People had some very nice cars there back in the late 80s and early 90's. Some 3.0 S Capri's about aswell.
Apart from the higher end models about there was a few older cars that had seen better days.
I can remember that the police would regularly pull over boys in the Mark I and MarkII Escorts to check if they had MOT’s and were road worthy.
I can remember a boy in Six Bells owning a green Turbo 2000 in about 1998-1999. It was the first Impreza I saw with any regularity.
Then Dai (luckwelshchap) bought his Catalunya and that was a regular site on the roads of Aber. The only two Imprezas in the town at that time.
What year did you buy that Catalunya Dai?

I actually used to get 35mpg on the regular weekly trip to Kendal.
Iirc Rod the estate agent (from EV) had an RB5.
PS I remember falling off the back of the Bedford trying to be clever an save Bill from stopping for me. He then stopped so quickly that I almost ran into the van due to momentum

And yes, they've since been demolished, along with 9-42.
House - nay, ANY - sort of public building works in the late 60's/early 70's seemed prone to 'concrete cancer'.

But they really were great days to be honest Dai. I used to love working off that Bedford. I know that Andy and the other two boys used to work off the Toyota Hilux but because I was so short I found it hard to reach over the side and get to the milk. So did Bondy.
Because the Bedford was much lower down it was a doddle to work off and we could get the round done so much quicker. Great days.
How long did you keep the Catalunya Dai? Must have been 3-4 years IIRC?
Cor you must have put some miles on it up and down Kendall! Cumbria you mean? As in Mint cake Kendall?
If you don’t mind me saying though Dai it did look like you gave it a hammering.
Are you doing less mileage on the Type 20? I am guessing yes.

Two nights ago I saw a Black spoilerless 3rd generation STI saloon heading from Hafodyrynys to Pontypool. I was heading to Abertillery.
On my return run I saw a silver 3rd generation spoilerless saloon in Pontypool on the bypass at the new improved junction.
Two in a day. Apart from the white one I see in Usk quite regular I hardly see the 3rd generation saloons. Spoilerless as standard I know.

I didn't put too much mileage on it.
Iirc it was 245 each way but only a 6-month contract.
We opened the 'Chip Shop' after that, so it didn't get to the point where I had to pay for excessive mileage Dan.
I was quite 'gentle' with it, until I allowed one the (Kendal) locals to have a drive. Imagine Llangynidr moors at 80+ !
After 30 secs or so of driving like a demon he told me that he used to drive Class N's for Vauxhall/Opel !
'Twas then I realsied I could er... stretch it at times
The T20's just coming up to 5K since May, but that includes a dozen or so longer (100+) runs, so it's doing enough to keep it exercised but certainly not getting exhausted !
Tbh (semi-) retirement was a key factor in buying it (I'll tell you the story one day ).
When the time comes someone else will have the chance of a low(-ish)-mileage one.

Finally sussed what you're referring to.
I'm not sure if I was the very first pupil to set foot in it.
In June '71 our Chemistry teacher asked me to get another 3 lads because he wanted equipment loaded onto a van.
This I did and after it was loaded we were told to get in.
Out we got, at 'the new school' and of course had to unload everything.
I was the most popular pupil for weeks after. Everyone wanted to be my friend and get picked to go up when the next load was due.
3 months later we couldn't wait to get out of Colditz.

Had the Cat on a 3-year lease (but managed to keep it for a few months longer !)

I remember John Boulton (who had The Hot Spot chippie) sneaking about thinking I was opening a rival to his business.
I think he was happy when he found out that my chips were around £300 each .
There's always been a plan for the T20:
- Enjoy it !
- To release capital in it to subsidise my final year before formal retirement on my frozen LG Pension.
So, start saving ...............

In the longer run.... I don't know.
If I do sell up I will End up in a classic. I fancy having something that outwardly looks worse for wear but under the skin is mechanically sound and hiding its potential.
I don't know. Cars pull my thoughts in all directions.

Saw two Imprezas on Cardiff Road in Taffs Well on Saturday morning - first was a white STi Bugeye. Second was blue, debadged (blob or bug) with neon green wheels.

Dark and decorated T2000 McDonald's roundabout and Pontymoile bypass about 23:30 on Sunday. You turned off to Pontypool (after being undertaken of sorts by my over-enthusiastic daughter in the yellow Corsa).

Russet Brown (I kid you not, sort of cross between copper and rust) WRX Bug parked on the road in Abertillery yesterday morning.
Looked quite a tidy job as well (apart from the colour ).

White Private reg STi-spoilered one in Aber tonight at 20:00.
You were using the exhaust as a measure of frustration when everyone else in the traffic jam caused by a complete numpty were using their horns.
