That would be Hooch probably - haven't seen that stuff for years! Used to be really popular at one point, but then I think it took the brunt of the backlash when the media decided alcopops were the drink of the devil

I think it tastes pretty good and the only reason it makes people aggressive or go mental is that its a bit stronger than most normal lagers, usually by 25% or more compared to the normal cooking lagers at between 3 and 4 percent, there is no magical ingredient that causes it to be "wife beater" other than alcohol, you get a hangover as you have consumed the same volume but have ingested more alcohol, the headache is you being dehydrated because of the alcohol, it doesnt have the magical "chemicals" designed to give you a headache and other beers are all natrual, organic and healthy, they just have less alcohol, its pretty simple, if I go mental on any beer, wine, spirit or Toilet Duck I know I will feel wretched and dont blame the individual brand, just my own stupidity and greed.
I think Stella has a bad rep and has become synonymous with yobbish behaviour and now has a Chav image, I reckon in a blind taste test against Peroni and the like it would still do pretty well, people seem to express a preference partially based on the taste but also its a bit aspirational and people dont want to be associated with certain brands, I served Stella at our Bonfire last year and it felt a bit Pikey but guess what, it all went, like being naked if everyone is, it doesnt seem so bad, the brands such as Peroni, Corona, Ashi and the like are nice but to me, not really any better than Stella, people go on about Becks, its alright but I cant understand bloked who claim to drink Becks and rattle on about it coming from a mountain stream and being all pure, do me a favour its mass produced in Germany like Stella is mass produced over here, via the same process.
I guess what i am saying is Stella probably deserves its reputation but it is actually quite a nice beer.

I would say without doubt I get a worse headache from Stella, compared to if I had consumed a different brand - but same strength beer. Peroni Nastro Azzurro is 5.1%, and I get a much milder hangover (if I get one at all) drinking that compared to the same amount of Stella at 5.0% (of which anything over 3 pints almost guarantees a thumping headache)!

Stella is the same 5% as many other beers I drink. Makes me feel worse in the morning than an imported beer.
British brewed larger is generally ****e quality, and will leave you with a minging head!

Stella has got better IMHO since dropping to 5% and I can now drink it without getting a headache. Grolsch is ok but has a slightly chemically taste. Carlsberg Export is lush, but by far and away the best Lager beer is Budvar by miles......

I'm not a fan of Stella. Weird after taste and gives me a stinging headache the morning after whereas other lagers don't.
I'm a big, big fan of Coors (damn thats a light tasting beer) light , fantastic lager and abour 4.5% still. Love a few bottles of that when watching the football and goes down like water. Shame not many places sell it round here and if they do it's expensive. Only buy it when it's on offer as I hate paying full price for beer for home
Drink a few different types in fairness, but don't like Stella or Peroni - tastes like marmite sticks. Prefer to drink bottles of beer over can's though.

Have to agree that as I'm old, and past binge drinking....
I can only manage two before the road drill inside the skull starts up
dunx
P.S. At least it doesn't make me fart, like "real ale" does...

Well i might have exagerated a bit...
But there is certainly something in it which sets you off at a funny angle.Im not buying the strength argument either.
I now drink cider which is 8.2%,and it never gives me any of the symptoms that Stella did.
Well maybe the wobbly legs and talking utter sh!te,but Stella has got its reputation because of what it does to people. All the evidence cant be ignored...lol..
It might not have LSD in there,it just might have crushed crack rocks or GHB in the mix..

Do you remember Carling Premier (90's)? Was a flat ish pump lager that went down like water but boy did you get pissed! Could only manage a few pints. Seem to remember getting punchy on it too.

I've given up Stella on Friday nights and moved over to Becks Vier on draught.
A typical Friday night is around 12-15 pints, Becks gives me no hangover and I feel reasonably sober.

I like Stella a lot. Has more bite that the usual suspects (Becks, Carlsberg, etc). Don't seem to be troubled with hangovers either which is good. But what I really like is Staropramen. If you're a Stella fan then try this as it's even better.

It doesn't matter if you drink in the week or not.
12-15 pints in a session is nuts!
...and you don't get a hangover and feel sober? I'd bet you were not legally fit to drive until Sunday!

I drink every day of the week, more at weekends
when I come home from nights I like a drink or a few I do get a few funny looks when I'm on the Stella at seven in the morning when cleaning the car

12-15 pints is a good drink...
But realistically if your out for 6-7 hours, its a pint every 1/2 hour. Not a huge amount if spread over time.
Although i wouldnt like to drink that amount of Stella nowadays,a gallon and half was mere merry and a curry in days gone bye.
When you get into 20+ pints and the magic figure of 3 gallon do you start to lose days/beat up policeman/**** in your wardbrobe/p!ss down the stairs/smash your mates mum and-or girlfriend/wake up in a cell/wake up on a market stall with veg around you.

I can confirm 15+ pints is possible and still wake up next morning compus mentis (probably not ok to drive - never been breathalysed post-session, so hard to say).
Just depends on what time you start drinking. Just after lunch is ideal, and don't stop until its after midnight, grab a kebab on the way home for tea and your sorted.
Not healthy on a regular basis.
