no offence banny but you only have to look at the threads on here over the years to see that its a common trend on any car forum. How many times have you seen people slated on here by others saying scoobs are the best cars.

In answer to the original question, the evos are cheaper to tune and work on and imo they have a better quality of components inside as standard. Most evo owners who have the higher powered cars for sale are looking towards the gtr as their next cars

 

Hi guys. As you will see from my post count & last activity that last time I logged in here was a good few years ago when I had the classic shape version 4 type R. That love affair didn't last long as the engine spewed over the motorway after 10 days or so of ownership. Was a bloody quick car but at 22 the rebuild bill from API Engines was just too much.

Anyways I've been on the MLR for a while now on my 2nd evo - username - J88HNB

I must admit I enjoy the banter that's always been there between the 2 marques but I don't understand this philosophy that 500bhp is obtained cheaply. I've just gone through this process with Norris Designs & Wallace Performance & it certainly wasn't cheap.

This is excluding the RS Diff, RS Gearbox & RS transfer box that I know will need doing before they blow.

This has given me near 500bhp on Shell SUL. Unfortunately the Head Gasket blew on the rollers 2 days ago at 530bhp whilst mapping on E85 so this is being repaired at the moment but should see 550bhp as the map is 90% complete. Ouch

None of the above costs include labour which if I remember correctly amounts to just as much as the total amount. So thats about £13-£15k in parts + labour to take me to this power not including the cost of the car. Not cheap or easy by any means.

Anyways anyone from Scotland here?, will look forward to some friendly banter at Crail this year. My spec should see my in the low 11's but also got some track alloys that will be covered in slicks which I hope will help even more. My car was previously 390bhp & 380lbs, my PB @ crail was 12.1. The classic shapes scoobs are very quick with similar power, I've raced a few & was beaten by 1 by a couple hundreth of a second lol

yup me Still to pop my 1/4 mile cherry (not really intrested in 1/4 mile stuff though) I like trackdays, Dosent matter what type of car it is none of them are cheap to tune if your going to do it correctly, Were you going for a 100% E85 map or something like 20%?

Yeah 2 maps - 1 for shell SUL & the other is 100% E85. Should have it back in a week or so..

Just done the first ten miles of running in this morning on the new 2.1 pretty crap weather up here just now so will wait for a better day to give it a proper run and get some decent milage on it, I have the two maps myself but use methanol on one of them, have been pretty tempted to get a 100% map for E85 myself but will need to uprate my injectors first, got a stash of methanol I need to get through first anyway lol

Hay john thats about the same as my scooby cost to get to 500hp 15k all in so yeah i agree mate no car is cheap to tune ... changing the way people think is the difference between standing shoulder to shoulder or face to face simple

 

yeah mate it's a small fortune. I only run the Norris Designs rod conversion as well, Norris say he has done about 125 of these conversions, most other Evo owners with 500+ bhp either have fully built forged engines or strokers which cost approx 2 - 3 times what my engine cost.

Just goes to show your looking at 15k minimum to get a proper 500bhp with all suspension, brakes & management to go with the power. For sure it can be done cheaper but i've never been good with cash

My evo 8/9 weighs 1392kg,
I run the rod conversion for 2 1/2 yrs now with no probs,,
I run the cheaper atp gt3076r turbo,,
Its run the 1/4 at pod in 11.4 @124mph
With a terrible 1.83 60ft all on pump 99ron juice,,
With a 1.7 60ft time which any scooby or evo can acheive it would do a 11.1 @ 124mph,,
It runs at 2.2 bar of peak boost,
These were done with a short rs box,, which dead on 100mph in 4th which was the 1/8th speed and 138mph in 5th at 7800rpm,,
I broke the 4th gearbox before xmas so am putting the 4.11 final drive in the rs short box which will do 126 mph at 7800rpm in 4th
So 1 less gear change for the pod in april,,
Will see if that improves it a tad,,
The car is approx 500bhp,,
My brother s spec c runs around 490 bhp on nos ,, stock engine and to ran 11.4 @ 122mph , tad lighter at 1335 kg, but with a better 1.68 60ft time,, So not alot in them to be honest

only so long these comparisons can go on for, at the end of the day a modified car will go as fast as much ££££ you throw at it, evo's and scoobys are both quick cars, you pays your money and you take your choice .... these my 500bhp is faster than your 480 debates could go on forever .. lol

roflol... well considering a standard Spec has done that in sub 8mins, I doubt anyone on here is going to beat that. Car is irrelevant to a degree, as that place is high on driver skill and *****.
