VF34 is a cracking little turbo with the supporting mods, front mount, good quality headers, good map etc.

Interesting thread.....

Looking myself at a suitable turbo that'll make high 300s on standard P1/type r internals with supporting mods. and still maintain good response.

Been advised the md321h, rcm400, sc420 etc. as being OTT on standard internals as they would require more boost than possible to be lively.

20g's seem to be very inconsistant in the results they give and have read quite often of them being laggy.
Would an 18g be enough of a difference over a vf28 to be worth the swap? These are both pretty old turbo design nowadays, not that there's any problem in that, just things move on. What of Harveys hs380...best of 18g & 20g perhaps, anyone running one?

Also had the vf43, off the hawkeye sti, described to me by one tuner as an awesome little turbo, and very capable of high 300s on a 2litre it seems...anyone tried one?

Then there's the sc36...not as yet making high 300s but there's a billet version due.

Rather hoping this thread can lift some of the fog....a bit

No enhancement, straight Vpower, 1.5 bar midrange tailing to 1.2 bar at peak power.
The car has wrapped RCM headers, a front mount, 740cc injectors (Future proofing), a Walboro pump and a SimTek ecu.

Are they hard to come by?

Duncan/Martyn, what sort of results have you seen with the 43 on a 2.0l

Thanks Paul

Unfortunately they are getting hard to get hold of due to people like Martyn and I raving about them.... very good for early boost (and thus torque) due to the lack of surge issues in that design versus vf35.

Used to be able to pick them up for peanuts but they sell quickly now. Can still get them but you have to be quick.

I have seen 360+ on mine and others with them without too many supporting mods making it uneconomical to do it/

Is the VF48 similarly performing to the 43?!:-

Subaru VF48 Turbo on eBay (end time 20-Jan-10 15:37:29 GMT)

(Not sure on the state of those impeller blades though...? )

Also, a VF35 for sale - if happy with less than 350bhp:-

Subaru STi 8 vf 35 turbo turbocharger on eBay (end time 23-Jan-10 20:19:33 GMT)

The VF48 is another great turbo - and better still than the VF43. Progress is good IMO.

I thought the vf34 and vf35 were pretty similar? So surely they should be able to get over 350bhp?

It's rare for a 35 to get over 350 but some people have managed it - I'm sure it could be achieved more often than not, if mapped on V-Power+OB.

I think the 34 is bit better top end (is it due to the roller bearings?) - so will see over 350 more times than the 35 (as borne out by Enginetuner's very impressive result, above). But I don't think there's much between them, all said and done(?).

In what way? More bhp but similar spool, for example? If so, these must be good for getting on for 380+, yes?

Which variant was the 48 fitted to? MY08 Spec C or something?

It strikes me that if you could get 350+ out of a VF34/35 it would be totally out of it's comfort/efficency zone and what is the point in that.

Just about everytime you clear 6000rpm and that wouldn't be infrequently if it's a 2litre
