Does anyone know if the 3M stuff would be suitable to use in the engine bay on some of the plastic components (air box, pulley cover etc.) or would it be too hot and cause it to melt/discolour or come off?

Given how quickly a hairdryer heat this stuff up, I'd say melting was a real possibility.

Air box you might get away with, pulley cover, I'd say is to close to the hot stuff.

just a quick question. What do you use the hairdryer for?? (this is my first attempt at applying vinal)

Also if i had a full matt black wrap would there be any place on the car you would see the orginal colour? (my car is crystal grey)

Thanks
yeah hairdryer is fine. I would say you would see the original colour when you open the doors, boot and bonnet.

maybe I just dont have the right idea - already wasted a sheet of the stuff.

I need some tips to go round the corners.... do you cut away the excess vinyl or should it stretch over the curve (with a little heat application from said hair dryer) ??

I spent about 2hours practicing and just couldn't get it to work right and I am a fussy sod so it needs to look proper!

Any tips from them who've done it would be appreciated

Cheers
Rob

I just keep heating, pulling and Stretching. It's suprising how tuff this 3m stuff is. Trim off excess after.

Stu:- I'm on the last interior piece now, the centre air vents above the stereo with the hazzard switch. Could you give me a hint how that comes off, as it seem very tight and can't see any screws to remove, is it just held in with clips, that need prising off?

The other parts are fine, take one off leads to the other, but this one is odd.

Cheers if you can help?

When you got the radio/heater control panel off there are 3 screws above the radio pointing up, you might need to take the radio out. Just look up above radio and you will see them.

Well pleased with this stuff though, looks excellent when you put it back on don't it!.

I'm thinking whether to do the hazzard switch or leave it silver? keep looking at your Pic of it trying to make my mind up lol.

You doing anymore parts?

I would really love to get the shiny look on my roof and wing blade with some Carbon Fiber Vinyl kinda like how the BMW M3 CSL roofs look....

Seems like the 3M stuff gives a textured but flat almost matte look... any ideas or other products that could be recommended?

Anybody? Kinda concerned because I have World Rally Blue paint... the shade that came on the GC8 which is slightly lighter than the new age WRB paints so don't wanna have this dull black roof contrasting it and potentially making the car look hideous

Have you read the full thread? Look up Trails comments, page 2-3. He gives a great bit of info from a supplier

Jamie... I like the look of this wing blade. Which wrap did you use?? That might probably go well on my wing and roof too...

I also like the slightly glossy look of this Neffy Wrap. Can live with that next to my WRB but it seems difficult to work with as can be seen on the crease on that PS3

Yeah I have actually, practically every single post... BUT sometimes depending on lighting and the camera used, these things come out differently... I've seen some pics where Di-Noc looks ok and some where it looks really really dull. Same goes for Neffy Wrap. I guess if somebody with personal experience could give some insight it would help loads especially if they have experience with both.

The parts in my classic are a bit less curvy so won't need as much work to wrap as a new age interior HOPEFULLY and even then I might use Di-Noc for those. But as we all know the exterior makes or breaks your car asthetically so I wanna get the best looking vinyl possible for that... Not too worried about the difficulty or durability(per say) as I doubt I'll be keeping the car for the lifespan of either of these.

Thanks!

i was considering getting my roof done but looking at this thread am i right in thinking it is relatively easy to do? all the parts which i would of considered v.fiddly seem to all look flawless, even production line standard! i just dont know now as i can see that once you start you pretty much seem to keep going! i take it the splitter is next?lol. stu, you fancy doing mine for cash (obviously) and you can keep the leftover wrap? loving those front bumper inserts as well, nice touch

Mate we got stuff here here: Carbon Vinyl and was i think 1500mm x 1220mm to do the roof in a classic and was cheapest around

Its a simple DIY job better if you have 2 mates helping tho to help hold the viny. Remember this stuff has air channels so you dont get bubbles!

Sorted the air vents out Stu, thanks for the info, all wrapped and back in the car now.

Next job is the gauge pod, but as that means all the guages have to come out, i'll leave that for a weekemd job.

As said above, the mirrors look ace, I have few exterior things to do, have plenty vinyl left

The crease on the Neffy wrap was there before I used the peice to do the PS3, the Neffy came folded and so was creased all over, but with it being a fabric the creases do come out. The crease on the PS3 however was a very bad one close to the edge of the fabric, I used it anyway as just wanted to see what it looked like and wanted to save as much Neffy as possible for use on the car. Applying the Neffy over a flat or slightly curved surface is very easy, however I have a GRP parcel shelf that has raised holes for the speakers and I tried to cover that and didn't have much luck. The fabric does stretch, but if I stretched over the curve on one side of the hole, it wanted to crease on the other side if that makes sense.

I've ordered a sample of the 3M and if I like the look of it will get some of that to do the shelf and see how easy that is to work with. Another downside to the Neffy wrap is the fact you glue it on, so I wouldn't like to use it on the exterior. It does look great though and is cheaper than the 3M.

Thanks for the info!

Curious about that last part of your post... You think gluing it on would have some kind of adverse effect? Honestly I intend to just put it on and leave it on... If you're worried about it marring the paint underneath that won't be a bother for me really...

I'm just concerned about the finish, does it have that glossy look that would look like real CF that you'd find on a wing or roof or is it dull like the Di-Noc appears to be?

Also, if you look at it does it jump out and say "I'm a sticker vinyl!!!" or can it pass until very closely looked at?

Is this stuff pretty durable for external applications, im keen on getting my roof done and i asked a local company, the quote was around 300 notes. Im thinking on doing it myself to be honest, just wondered if it would last ok when left to the elements?
