I went on opening weekend to it in 3D, and liked it so much I dragged my mother and gramps 60miles to see it at the Imax Yday. Far better, and It has now gone on to beat dambusters as my grandfathers favorite film!!!!.
So there you go, if an 86yr old stuck in the mud likes it, everyone should!!!.

Went to see this today, wasn't expecting much. However, I was blown away really. What a spectacle, a true cinematic event.
Only once did it look cartoonish, Cameron really has raised the bar on this one, and not just visually either, good story, good characters, good everything!
2010 looks good for films, it has certainly had a good start for me.

9 out of ten for me for an overall experience, I watched this yesterday at Birmingham Imax and was blown away with the 3d and the sound was insane. cost me £9 and made all my other £6.50 visits to the flicks a bit of a rip off! £2.50 more for a 23 meter wide screen hell yeah!
summary: get it watched and in IMAx if you can!

Just back from watching Avatar. fantastic film, poor script, bad acting but somehow worked as a very emotionally driven film as i totally forgot about the fancy graphics and 3D.

I went to see it again tonight - it was my wife's third time!!
I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot more the second time - just let the whole thing flow - maybe watched less critically with no expectation.
Visually it is stunning with only a few inconsistencies, e.g. to my eyes the scale of hometree was not consistent.
An amazing achievement - I hope Avatar II has even better storyline and stronger characters.

because idiots go to see it time and time again
some teenagers went to see Titanic (Cameron's other epic and No2 in the all time grossing list) 12 to 14 times
no film will get close unless they have the sort of repeated viewings that these two managed
i do not need to see them again - one was about a boat and the other about a tree i got it the first time!!! - job done

I saw it at IMAX, and have an acquired version of it So far I have not sat through it completely once on TV, as compared to the spectacle of IMAX 3D it seems dull. Anyone whom didn't see it at its best will wonder what all the fuss was about methinks.

That would be me. Saw it at home (new baby and a clingy mum who wouldn't let him out of her sight stopped us going to the cinema) and couldn't understand the fuss. OK I didn't see it at it's 'best' but surely the story should hold up on it's own rather than relying on 'ground breaking effects'?

The story is simply 'Ferngully', which was a reworking of 'Pocahontas', so nothing groundbreaking. It was the 3D CGI which was the leap forward, and to enjoy it fully you needed to be at IMAX. Anything less and the weakness of the rest of its production shows.

I think anyone who watchs on DVD/Blu-ray will be disappointed. This was a film that you had to go to the cinema to enjoy no matter how good your home cinema setup is.
