A lot more complex than the speed density version of the ESL board.

Uses proper sensors which are already on the car ie MAP and IAT to work out the mass of air.

ah right, how does an aftermarket ecu do this? or same way?

Can't do what ?

ESL boards are now coming through as mafless .. so they are based on the same system and run without the MAF connected - thereby getting rid of that potential weakpoint.

Just because the std base ecu is too basic to be able to be programmed in that way.

can the earlier live mappable esl boards be run this way without the maf? or is it just the new boards?

They need to go back to ESL for reprogramming at the moment but the new ESL software will have the option for the mapper to do it I believe. That wont be around for a while though.
