Strange isn't it Dunc, i couldn't give a flying **** about boats, almost as much as you don't care how ill-educated your written English looks. And yet i never mention boats at all. Weird, isn't it?

Tel, you do make me smile. You so emphatically moan about people's basic lack of grammar skills and yet every so often you come up with an absolute pearl! Even my 10 year old nephew knows that you never start a sentence with and!

Daz, do you seriously still believe that primary school "rule"?

I know you don't really, but i enjoyed the irony in your joke

Tel, you know I'm right in what I am saying. Starting a sentence with "and" is grammatically incorrect! Not that I give a toss but, like I said, you slag people off for their spelling grammar all the time when you're not perfect yourself. Far from it infact!

Daz Daz Daz. A more serious tone i see. Shame.

Yes you can start a sentence with "and". And, believe it or not, you can start one with "but". But i guess that's not really what you want to hear, is it? The reason they teach these guidelines at school is because children often don't know how to construct a proper sentence. In the adult world, they're perfectly acceptable. Ask Mr Shakespeare if you don't believe me.

Get your facts straight first please

OK if you're being a pedant. The usage of conjuctions as a means of starting a sentence has been increased in recent years but it's not considered as the correct way to do things and as such their use is still considered unprofessional.

That's the conjunctions out of the way now we come to the use of a capital I when referring to one's self. That, you have no excuse for. As said feel free to bitch about other's spelling all you like. But (yes I'm humouring you) don't expect to do it with any credibilitly whatsoever if you can't get yours right. You are quite simply being a hypocrite!

That's the conjunctions "out of the way"? Daz has decreed that it's "unprofessional" to start with a conjunction and therefore that's the subject dealt with? Right, ok. Let's not point to the huge literary arsenal that would take slight issue with that.

The capitalisation of the letter i i've talked about till i'm ready to slit my wrists on here. But one more time, for your benefit. The capitalisation of i has only been commonplace for about 150 years. Nobody really knows why it was introduced. There is no rule that it follows, it's completely arbitary. Please feel free to capitalise all the other personal pronouns if you're going to be consistent. If there was a single key capital i, i would use it, i'm not that dogmatic, believe it or not.

Anything else while we're at it?

And once again, SN shows how we can go from a topic on a popular entertainment show to an English lesson in only a few steps

This place never fails to amuse and amaze in equal measures

(sorry, I used 'And' didnt I )

I actually started a sentence the other day with 'And'. I did worry Tel would be along to tell me off, but it seems it's alright to do it after all.

Back on topic, I'm glad they are gone, but they did do well to put up with all the criticism without seeming very bothered by it.
