I bought a 132k mile uk turbo and ran it for a year and the only problem i had was a split power steering pipe,i then sold it and the chap who bought it also ran it for a year up to 150k miles and he had no trouble at all.I now run a blobeye wrx and guess what ,i have had no trouble.(so far lol)
The scoobs that i have owned have been more reliable than the string of golfs that i have owned and my wifes audi tt is nothing but trouble.

Everyones experience is different. Love my Scoobs but they are a pain in the ****.

Had an Audi coupe for 10 years. Only had to change the tyres, back box, pads and oil. The Golf van and Scirroco I had were incredibly reliable over 5 years each (barring 1 head gasket on the Scirroco) and the Porsche never put a foot wrong in 4 years. All daily drivers, not weekend toys.

Other end of the scale, Peugeot 309GTI fell apart everytime I planned a journey in excess of 50 miles. Clio 16v needed a complete rebuild days after I purchased it (tho I purchased it for 1/3 market value to be fair) And a Lancia Monte Carlo that spent most of it's time being repaired. Eventually sold as a non runner but the bloody thing started when the new owner had paid for it . All great drivers cars in their time, but a pain of Scooby proportions.

I had a nightmare with one of my imprezas air locking a couple of years back. I spent days chasing it around. In the end I used a garden hose pipe and popped various hoses off under the bonnet to fill them directly.
There was a big gurgle and suddenly the air lock was gone! You can flush the system this way as well.

Took it out today and it got hot again this was after 5 or so miles this was after I bled the system whilst I had it ticking over it was fine for the duration it was sat all hoses were hot and pressurised and the fans cut in so surely this can't be a thermostat can it? My attention was then drawn to the radiator which is very corroded with alot of cooling fins missing perhaps it's this causing it to overheat etc? However when I checked the hoses after it had been on a run I noticed the bottom hose was cold but the top one was too hot to touch! I'm hoping it's not the head gasket because it got rebuilt 7k ago by a yorkshire Subaru specialist, I know if the head gasket had gone there would be White goo in the water or oil and there's not

Mine has started doin this, i've recently changed my radiator and all my hoses, i'm looking into it now as i thought it could be the thermostat but that aint possible as the radiator gets warm it's the disapearing coolant that worrys me though as there is no obvious leak or puddle under the car, when i get to the bottom i'll let you know if you havn't sorrted yours already, this could be realy simple or very expensive, hopefully the first as i've had enough of the money guzzler now.

I can be more specific now with what it's doing, if I drive with the car at low revs it's fine and doesn't overheat, it's when I get it on boost even for a short burst it starts to get hot, I spoke to Sheffield Subaru specialists who rebuilt it and they said it would be very unsual for the headgaskets to blow as thyre triple ply steel headgaskets from Subaru, the rad isn't leaking but there are alot of cooling fins missing and the rad itself looks very corroded, would this cause these type of problems? Could it be that the rad just isn't cooling the water down when it's boosting? I had a coolant test done and it said there were hydrocarbons in the coolant which would suggest there is a hg leak but again I've been told that they aren't neccesarily accurate on these cars as sometimes this can be picked up from the turbo? Would a damaged waterpump impeller cause this?

The symptoms of overheating when pushing the engine and hydrocarbons in the water indicate a head gasket problem .
