Ghostly experiences anyone?

OK -- you can guess that I don't believe in most of this stuff, but it's important to remember that your instincts have been honed over 6 million years, whilst your experience is honed over less than 100 (depending on how long you live). Go with instinct.

Instincts are always good!
A lot of people don't believe - I was fortunate enough to have parents (or a mum at least) who didn't scoff and decry my dreams and instead encouraged them. My mum always found it easier to call my big brother downstairs through mind, instead of shouting up the stairs at him.
It also works on questions somtimes - the correct answer will seem to "highlight" itself. Doesn't always happen, unfortunately and it never flippin' happens with the Lottery Numbers! Hence why I don't play that any more.

What about roadside ghosts. I had an experience 2 weeks ago just north of Carlisle on the A74 nr Metalbridge. It was 1 am ish, clear night , i was travelling behind an artic , i 'm in a tranny van ,going 55/60mph when all of a sudden from right behind truck a young guy jumps out ( from white line) at me waving his arms . My instinct obviously was to swerve hard ,luckily nothing was behind me.If this was a non ghost the truck would have wiped him out he was so close, right on the white line as i said. The artic never flinched from his line . I can still remember the guys appearence , crew neck Arran jumper , shoulder length hair.
My mate also saw a ghosty, also a driver he claims he saw a guy running on top of stone dyke wall alongside him in his lorry, the ghost kept up with him for more than a mile, this was near Dumfries from M74 direction.
An old driver where i used to work claims the A9 north of Perth has dozens of ghosts etc....

Not ghostly but spooky none the less:
The wife was checking her receipts from last year. She found one for two CD towers (for stacking your CDs).
Then she looked at the date and time: 11th September about 14:00.
The next shop she went into had the WTC news on a TV.

Excellent I started this in March and its come back to 'haunt' me (sorry couldn't resist)
Nothing else <touches wood > has happened with me as far as ghostly experiences, and quite frankly I want it to stay that way
The worst thing I had to encounter recently was walking down 3 miles of country road late at night with over hanging trees and it was pitch dark. I had missed my stop on the train and was p!ssed as a fart and the number of shaddows/things moving I saw was not very nice. The noises that went with them were pretty horrible too, but they were just foxes/badgers and rabbits etc running about in the road. Totally did my head in, especially hearing twiggs snappping etc in the woods lining the road as you walk along Luckily tho I didn't encounter any hunting horses or I would have been done for
What about anyone else?

LOL! After all the "im going to be there at 11:30" malarky...
Oh well, I guess the proof of existence of th afterlife will just have to wait.
Can we have a thread now about telekinesis? That Dr James Randi (who I briefly saw mentioned whilst scanning the posts) offered $1,000,000.00 dollars to anyone who can PROOVE under laboratory conditions that they can move things with their minds, or that they have "psychic powers" ie mind reading etc..
So..can anyone? And do you need an agent?

Coming home from uni., driving my Ford Anglia, about 1am.
I always drove at night 'cos I liked the (then) empty roads (1971), and had recently fitted a pair(not matching) of halogen driving lights that I'd bought for a couple of quid in a scrapyard.
As I came through Loughborough, and started heading for the A46 at Sixhills, I noticed that one was pointing at the floor, and loose enough to cause a "strobe" effect. I pulled up on a straight stretch, and got out to tighten it.
The road ran straight for about a mile. It had a flat verge at one side, with a high wall, about 10 yards back, the wall was about 10 feet high. On the other side was another flat verge, with an anti-rabbit fence about 10 yards in, and trees starting about 50 yards in. No bushes etc on the side of the road.
As I finished tightening the light, I distinctly heard someone walking towards the rear of the car on the gravel at the side of the road. I looked, but my night vision was poor due to looking into the light, so I called out, asking who was there. I got no reply. Not liking this one bit, and thinking "mad axe man", I walked briskly round the side of the car to get away, whereupon the footsteps broke into a run!
I dived into the car, dropped the clutch, and accelerated away. As I went, I flicked on the rally style 55watt reversing light that worked by a switch on the dash, hoping for a view of whoever/whatever was chasing me. There was no-one there! And nowhere they could have gone in that short time. EEEK!
I can remember the utter shock, so massive that I was certain they must be in the car with me! I nearly put the car off the road trying to see in the back seat. I was still shaking when I arrived home about 90 minutes later.
To this day, I've never been able to explain it, and I still get goosebumps when I pass the spot.

58 Ghosts found in the UK - it's official!
Following extensive research by the PYL Paranormal Foundation (based at the University of Bucharest, in Romania), conducted over a three-year period in the UK, the PYL has uncovered fascinating evidence that proves the existence of Ghosts.
In fact, according to the PYL, a total of 58 Ghosts have been found in the UK. Using highly sophisticated equipment that is able to monitor electrical charges in the air, the presence of paranormal activity was found in a number of specific locations, dispelling the myth that paranormal activity was limited to graveyards and old houses.
Professor Babble of the Foundation said the findings were supporting proof of the existence of Ghosts and went even further to suggest that Ghosts of all genders and age types were typical and that their presence was most easily felt during specific times of year.
During the three-year study, activity was heightened and reports of sightings were more abundant on one particular day, October 31st. Professor Babble believes that this particular night, and the position of the planets on this day appeared to generate more paranormal activity than any other day.
But getting definitive proof of the existence of Ghosts was more difficult and in spite of almost a decade of research with the use of state of the art equipment, by June this year Babble had accepted that proof would require a more sophisticated technique. That Technique turned out to be a 'Communicator' (the Com19-2) and it was this remarkable device that lead to the discovery of the 58 Ghosts in the UK.
Strangely enough most Ghosts were found in Kent and Essex (almost half), with 4 Ghosts found in one house alone. However other Ghosts discovered, appeared to be scattered more widely across the whole of the UK, from Dorset to Scotland.
Babble says that once you have the technology to find and identify a Ghost it is actually very easy to speak to them. He himself had travelled to Slough to visit a house where 2 Ghosts lived. Although a little scared initially, he was welcomed in after knocking on the door and given a nice cup of tea - apparently Ghosts are normally very friendly.
Whilst the evidence will shock many people, for others it will only serve to prove what they already knew. However, with final proof of their existence, it is likely that further activity in other countries will uncover similar Ghosts and Professor Babble wants to conduct other studies in the US and across Europe.
LMAO More ghosts found in Kent and Essex than anywhere else??? oh great I'm moving

Last year, I spent a weekend in Edinburgh at Dalhousie castle. Top place - expensive, but they have a really nice spa, and if you're in Edinburgh, be sure to go on one of the midnight ghost tours, they're silly but top fun.
Anyway, we got talking to these Americans, and we were all having a laugh with the night porter, who gave us a tour of the castle and told us about the ghost there. We went out to the city centre for the ghost tour and came back at about 1:30 am for a few drinks in the lounge to warm up.
The place was really quiet, the only sound was the crackling of the fire, when from the next room we heard chairs scraping around the floor. This made us all nervous, and a couple of us went to investigate. Arrrgghhh! The door opened as we were investigating, and out came...
The night porter. He'd been tidying up. Scared the **** out of us. Of course, he knew what rooms we were in, and being a bit of a joker, he gave our American friends a bit of a scare during the night, too
Always look for a natual explanation before looking for a super-natural one.

Did anyone see the program explaining some paranormal or weird experiences? Think it was on Sky.
Anyway what it did prove was that strong magnetic forces can affect the brain in ways it "feels" like someone is in the room with you, and if the magnetic fields shift it can trick the brain into thinking someone has walked by!
This program was all set in a supposidly haunted cave in different caverns, some were just caverns others had been rigged for the magnatism.
It was very interesting but did take the fun out of ghost stories because it could be used to answer a lot of them.

cool thread. I'm a bigtime sceptic, but here's my experiences:
used to stay regularly with my best pal from school @ his folks 18th Century mansion, beautiful place in the countyside, had peoples names/initials with dates from the mid 1700's etched in some of the original window panes
i was staying with a mutual pal in the guest quarters which had its own front door, stairwell, and only one door linking it to the main house.
getting ready for lights out & we both hear footsteps coming up the stairs (timber treads, no carpet). we stop talking, in expectation of our host opening the door to our room. but he doesn't. we think he's taking the ****, and quickly open the door thinking he'll be standing there. but he isn't
we **** ourselves when we realise the front door and the link door are still locked. needless to say we stayed awake all night.
mentioned it to our host the next day, to which he says quite blase
'oh, others have said the same thing after staying in that room, there's rumoured to be a ghost'.
i stayed there many times after that, and never heard the footsteps again. believe me, they were as clear as day, 2 of us heard them at the same time, no drink/drugs involved (we were good boys). i DONT believe in ghosts, but this experience is unexplained and @ the time scared the **** outta me & my mate.
this happened nearly 20 years ago and still comes up in conversation between those who were there.
i've another experience but will save it for another time.

Anyone remember 'Ghostwatch' with Sarah Green? I think it's available on DVD now too!!
I was only a nipper when that was shown and I remember ****ting myself for ages after! It was so realistic!
Ghosts stories and experiences are great. I had a book about ghostly goings on at RAF bases, might try and dig it out again actually.
My Grandad told a story once when he was in the RAF, in the dormatory, an airmen walked in through one end of the dorm, down between all of the bunks and out the other end of the room!!
The points about animals being suceptible to ghosts is also very true. My cat often stops and wathces invisible things move around the room!
It is often said that pilot's dogs during the war's knew when their owners weren't coming home, long before news of their loss got back to base.

not a 'ghostly' experience in the scary sense of the word, but my experience:
my dad died just before my gcse's, when i was 15. he used to do loads of work on his cars and spend a lot of time up the garage at the top of my garden, which he built himself, back around the time i was born.
since then whenever i'm up my garage warking on the rallycar, be it 4am or whatever ungodly hour i'm finishing it in prepatation for an event, i never feel lonely. i also find that there's kind of a presence just in my peripheral vision, like there's someone else up there helping me with the car.
in the immediate period after he died, i spent loads and loads of time up there with my mates, just chillin working on the car and playing music etc. literally every night we'd be up there for hours. time passed, i got a g/friend etc. and didn't go up there for a few months. i came in late one night with no-one else in the house, and just before i turned the living room light on i heard keys jingle, just slightly. when i looked across to the rack our keys hang on, the set for the garage was swinging about, but none of the others were. it kind of felt like a message that the garage, or my dad, present in the very structure of the garage, was lonely up there. it didn't scare me or seem malevolent in any way.
