i once was house sitting for my grand parents, they own a very large house, which is an old rectory. i was in bed about two in the morning, wheen the phone rang, as my parents were abroad with my grandparents i thought i had better answer it as it might be important, no one else was in the house with me and i went to pick up the phone which was in the next door room which adjoins my bedroom, when i got to the phone it was already off the hook, picked it up and no one there, at this time the house was locked and the alarm was on meaning only i could have got to the phone without the building alarm going off, so i went down stairs and checked the alarm was ok, and it picked me up going down the stairs, when my parents called my mobile they said that the phone was picked up but no one was there!!!! spooky or what, i wont stay there on my own now at all, was too scary

Some good stories here, though I will say I am still very sceptical especially with regards to mediums and such like.

The scariest thing I have ever experienced nearly killed me with fright but turned out to be very logical.
3 years ago my father in law died very suddenly at the age of 49. He lived alone and miles away from anywhere and while the house was for sale I kept his car in my garage to prevent it getting nicked.
I had it for a few months whilst the will was being sorted and every week I would use it for a short trip just to keep it running ok (it was new).
One night I used it to visit a friend who lives on the 'Horseshoe Pass' in North Wales. On the way back in the early hours on this very very dark road (with nothing for miles except heather), I thought I saw movement in the back seat of the car. I told myself not to be daft and carried on. A minute later I saw a black shape shift again in the rear of the car, so slowed down and craned my neck round to check if there was anyone, or anything there.
Nothing, carried on.

Next minute something just silently and swiftly sat up in the back seat right in the view of my rear mirror. I can remember my heart actually stopping for a seemingly long length of time and I jammed the brakes on, stopped the car and dived out of the drivers door.

Know what it was...............a feckin binbag. It had been lying flat on the back seat and because the nearside rear window was slightly open at the top, the wind had just got under it and blown it up between the two front seats like a dog guard.

Spooky, but not ghostly..................and yes, quite embarrassing.

My house is more than 500 years old and there is definitely a 'presence' that likes rustling plastic bags from time to time.

Word of advice people, DONT p1ss about with Ouija boards unless you know what you are doing. If you have to mess about with them then DONT say "is there anybody there" cos you will get a response and it could be anyone or anyTHING Put it this way, if you went to Oxford St. and grabbed literally the first person you saw then took em back to your house then would you feel comfortable? cos its the same principle.
astraboy.
In case you are wondering, my gran was into it and she taught me a thing or two about it.

I onced lodged with a young lady (no, seriously) in Peterborough when I was 18-19. 6 months before I moved in her father had died (she was only 24 at the time) and her father had given her a present a week before he died, it was the 3 chinese figures of Health, Wealth and Happiness.

Early on in our housesharing relationship she asked me if I was the nervous type, obviously I asked why and she mentioned that I may well encounter some spooky goings on. <Norm immediately craps himself>.

She proceeded to tell me that for the previous 6 months, the statues would face one way or another depending on the type of day she was likely to have (yeah right I though) not every day but when something significant was going to happen.

Loads of times I was the last to bed and the first up in the morning and yep, there it was one or another would be facing the wall.

Spookiest part was the time when she stayed at her boyfriends house one night, I was alone in the house, statues were fine, went to bed, got up, 'health' is facing the wrong way, she came back that evening and told me that her grandmother had died the night before. <Norm immediately looks for somewhere else to live>.

A few days later she was in the kitchen washing up in front of a window to the front street, I'm in the living room watching TV and hear the front door being opened, turn round to see Sarah (my landlady) hanging out the front door looking around as if looking for someone whod just knocked and legged it (there was no knock by the way), she closed the door, walked into the front room and told me that her grandmother had just walked up the drive and to the front door <Norm moved out> !!!!

Next story :

Once had a black labrador that belonged to me ex's father, who died, she lived in the house with her father before that so we stayed there and kept the dog. The dog was not a nutcase (yet).
After her father died, the dog would sit in her fathers favourite chair. Loads of times the dog would sit bolt upright in the chair looking at the door, get off the chair whilt appearing to watch somebody get into the chair, then would get back on and lie down again, we used to **** ourselves.

I beleive that there are some things whch cant be explained and I reckon I know what they are !

Norman - I've often heard of animals picking things up before...my step-mum's ex-husband (?!) died and after that her two cats would often jump of the sofa and hiss at a certain corner of the room by the door - not a very long or complicated story, but very strange anyway!

Maybe you should drag a cat down to your ex wives Bravo!

It'd be interesting to see if the creaks still occur in summer when the heating is turned off, but it sounds like you've already investigated the central heating theory.

My grandfather used to drive for a bus company and one evening hit a bloke on an open country road. He stopped the bus and got off but could see no sign of the bloke that he had hit, despite searching all over.

Failing to find the bloke, he carried on and reported it to the police in the next village. The police were unable to find any evidence of the man at the site, but the brief description of the man that my grandfather gave exactly matched the description of a man who had died in a road accident at that point on that day in a previous year.

i had a dog that used to stare at his leads all day- it was like he was transfixed by them. real spooky- we think he may have gone for exercise in a previous life? anyway, freaked us out so we stayed away from him.
in the end he got fat and had a heart attack.

Not reall much to tell.If you must insist on using one then be polite and use it as you would a telephone "Can I speak to such and such" etc. If you want a guranteed friendly response then ask to have a word with your spirit guide. We all have one apparently and they are on the look out for us and are there to help us out.
One funny story about spirit guides was what my mum told me once. One of her friends was a medium and her spirit guide was a bloke called Serapis- pronounced sir-arr-**** (spirit guides are usually the opposite sex to the people they watch for) Serapis is apparently VERY high up in the spirit world and as such when she asked to have a word, he would always send his apologies cos he was too busy!!!

Unhappy

Ouji boards,

Tried it at school.........nothing except p1ssing about.

Tried it numerous times after.........nothing.

It's cardboard. Give me one now and I'll say, or try anything you would like. I've done it.

All that happens is a bunch of good friends get drunk, turn the lights down and stay really quiet. Any noise then spooks you and it's the imagination that takes over from this point.

It's great fun at a party and nothing else as IMHO
