I had a Renault 9 TL. Was my first car, loved it. They even did a Renault 9 turbo, which was surprisingly quick.

What a stupid thing to do. I imagine that the FIA has found the radio recordings so they cannot deny it.

I don't think they can excuse themselves in any way for such an action, it is straightforward cheating, nothing less, and the Team Leader has to go as well as Pat Symonds. Such a shame to lose such talent from the sport, and I don't think it will do Alonso any good in the long run either.

I still have not forgotten Schumacher's so called loss of control on the last corner at Monaco enabling him to block the track just before the end of qualifying thus preventing anyone else from beating his pole time. Don't think that was much to write home about either!

A transcript of the radio recordings appear to show nothing out of the ordinary (aside from Flavio being pissed off that Nelson crashed).

They are here.

Full transcript of Renault radio transmissions - Planet-F1 News - from planet-f1.com

They do not backup the case against Renault IMO.

I've never warmed to Briatore. And now he appears to be happy to break the rules, I wonder how this will affect his credibility as the owner of a football team?

That's if you count QPR as a football team

Ron Dennis wasn't in charge then. Martin Witmarsh was. Ron left at the end of the 2008 season to concentrate 100% on the McLaren Road car project.

EDIT.

I owned a Renault Clio 172 MkII. It was ****.

if this is developing into a bash Renault cars thread -- my wife had a Renault 5GTL back in the late 80's -- and I can honestly say it was the biggest pile of **** I have ever driven -- and i have an Audi so i,m not the most discerning driver in the world

it was imossible to fill the water system without getting an airlock

and the handling was bordering on the criminal

It's becoming more difficult these days to find any credability in F1. Sad.

I had a Renault 14 & Renault 11 Turbo, both as good as a plan planned by Baldrick

Martin Whitmarsh was Team Principal in name only at the time. A move conducted by McLaren to try and appease the FIA after Spygate. Liegate came along and his time was up!

I'd prefer it to stay on an F1 topic to be fair - although borrowed a mates R5 turbo for a month and hated it.

I would point out that Renault are recent world champions and BMW are pulling out because they didn't win the championship quick enough (given that BM make good road cars). Road cars and F1 are hardly similar and usually related only in name. Subaru powered an F1 car that failed to qualify let alone race.

Anyway, the conversations don't really say anything do they. I don't see what conclusive proof there is really - or that we haven't been privy too. I think any poo directed at Flav was always going to stick because of his eyeing up of Bernie's throne during the split arguments. Just the same as Ron Dennis Vs Max Moseley. Moseley asked him point blank and Ron lied.

the last thing I heard was that the telemetry indicated something "not quite right"

but they would be totally daft to discuss it openly on the radio

Alonso at McLaren when they got accused of espionage.

Alonso at Renault when they are accused of race fixing

View to a kill, do you watch big brother??? it's just American shyte!. Cheap shyte, purchased by "networks" because they don't want to spend money on actually making stuff.

Edit to add, pity that F1 seems to be trying it's best to loose all remaining credibility>

I saw that **** Jordan, (no, not the model), spouting off about this on TV not long ago, which just about puts the tin hat on it. Apparently when everything is considered, he doesn't know anyone who would decide to do such a thing as to fix a race in this way. Yeah right...
