Steal away my friend

Put the doors back on this morning.......

And then my unique bumper........

The little bits under the indicators still need painting black.....

Just my spoiler, grill and bonnet vents to paint then its leave the paint a couple of weeks before colour sanding
Then I can the rest of the trim back on and get her MOT'd

Had a little pop at colour sanding today,

First with 1000 grit, followed by 1200 grit which looks like this .....

Then 1500 and 2000 grit, T-cut, AG paint restorer and AG SR polish it looks like this

Not too bad for by hand, not perfect but I'm made up for my first proper attempt at spraying for 15 odd years.
Gonna treat myself to a machine polisher me thinks speed the process up a little though!!

I'd recommend the orange silverline one with the variable speed start - only cheap on ebay

Nice work. especially by hand.1

If you're going for a mchine polisher treat yourself to a Kestral da and some Menzerna intensive polish. No need then for t cut, ag paint restorer and ag srp.

Polished Bliss is a good place to get the Kestral and Menz from

If you were closer you could just borrow mine. I'm not really detailing anymore so the kit is just sitting there most of the time.

Cheers for the offer, I've decided to splash out on a machine polisher as this probably won't be my only paint job so its a few £ well spent me thinks !

Looking cracking

Look forward to see it finished buddy. Have you done painting before?
Eh up fella!! Only did a little bit of painting a long time ago. This was pretty much like starting from scratch again!! Be great watching it slowly come together. DIY jobs are stopping progress atm but hope to get back on it in the next couple of days!

Hey

Fella great build really like this nice color aswell, polishing by hand looks great but get a decent machine and a really good non burn real wool pad much nicer to work with than the foam ones too (IMHO),

keep up the great work Alex

Did you sand before lacquering? Then lacquer over the top or how did you do it?

also- how did you get the roof sprayed properly without taking the windscreen off?

I'm hoping to take on something like this myself this year - just trying to get it all clear in my head before I make a **** of it! Lol.

Mine is a single stage colour so no laquer was used! You can paint the roof fine with the windscreen and rear windows in situ, all you need to do is remove the black trim around them, this allows you to spray into the gap between the recess and the screen and thus leaving no masking marks
HTH

Have been busy the past couple of days and am in the throws of putting her back together. Will hopefully update with piccys later

Well I bought this off eBay along with some G3 compound and set to work.

Took me two solid days of wet sanding and machine polishing to get the whole car done. Still needs some work but this can be done at a later date as I want the car on the road and its more than shiney enough for now!!

Re-located washer jets

New bargain RB5 interior

Got some similar material to trim my original pre-facelift door panels as the RB5 has facelift panels and I didnt want to change the panels and switches etc........

How shes looking atm.......

Really pleased do far, lowering and loads of little niggly jobs to do then I can book her in for MOT soon

Teach me, so wet sanding is by hand? and gets rid of any blemishes, roughness or orange peel in the paint? Then this leaves the surface dull as I guess paint has been removed, then the orbital is used to buff it up to a nice shine again?

Does wet sanding occur before or after lacquer is applied if its used though?
