Turbo 2000 refresh
#303
Just waiting on a few parts to finish off the rear calipers. Will be getting fitted in two weeks time when I'm off work!
Next project, I know this is gonna be a little controversial(sp?) and not sure if its been done. It was something I considered before the re-spray but chickened out!!
I picked this up before xmas
and this, carefully cut in half with a stihl saw so I could fit it in the car!
Vent recesses cut out, can you see where this is going......
template made up
and sport bonnet marked ready for surgery
Hole cut and vent recess offered up
welded into place and first coat of filler.....
Deleted the washer jet holes too and filled
Thats where I'm at atm, just the other side to do and a little 'personal' touch at the front to do! more soon.........

Think its easier to do it this way as in easier to blend the two parts together. On a scoop delete it would be easier to warp the metal (as is a bigger expanse of metal to weld) and therefore harder to disguise.
It was definitely cheaper to do it this way (the bent turbo bonnet was free) and I get to keep my original bonnet just in case I don't like it!!
Cheers

Its come to a bit of a halt atm, despite wearing goggles I still managed to get a piece of metal filing stuck in my eye 2 trips to the hozzy and a couple of eyeball scrapes with a needle *shudder* by the doc and my eye is still giving me jip
Hope to be on the mend and back onto it (with a new pair of goggles ) later on in the week.

Well my eye is finally back to normal!
Decided to make a start on my front brakes today...
Before I started they looked like this
new and old discs
Calipers fitted
Thats it for today. Going to plumb in and bleed them tomorrow as I've got curry and alcohol to consume now

Really do love this car and the amount of work you've put into it.
I also love the fact that your average Joe Bloggs would struggle to tell that it's been altered at all bar maybe the colour change.

I can't wait to get it fitted.......
trails, the Recaros are less 'flashy' to look at, however they are soooooo comfy and very supportive at the same time. 100% improvement imo
Rear brakes have been a 'mare too. Had fitment issues which I have ironed out only to find I had one faulty brake pad . Just waiting on the replacements......

Good work fella. Did the same with my wagon in 2009. It's not easy as you know, take your time as you have and you get good results. People are more positive towards you than they were me. I got lots of negatives about doing a diy paint job. Just a quick q. Why the vents in the sport bonnet? Would it not have been better to just spray the sport one and fit as the vents don't really do a great deal? Not a dig at u fella just curious.
Any how. Gud work matey as said above.

Cheers, as you say take your time. I hope you proved your doubters wrong .
Agreed, it would have been easier to just paint and fit. I wanted to go scoopless but also didn't want it to look like a sport (no offence to sport owners intended) hence adding the vents from a turbo bonnet!
Its different too (think I'm the first to do this mod......) , but subtle enough to look like its always been there
