Ooo I don't know, I'm sure the odd song he plays has a hint of anarchical undertones.

I am no fan of Idi Amin but you should not forget he was probably there because of the British and at least initially was a friend of the British state. Better the devil you know. So much for our excellent stewardship of the African 'nation'!

I think it is fantastic that you have had such great early years in your life and am sorry that you think things have got worse.

My belief is that people are more self-actualised, people do have much higher expectations now and people can be more selfish, but overall I feel we are also advancing as a civilisation and if we did not have growing pains then there would be no growth.

I for one would never want to return to the Ransome/Blyton-esque rose tinted past - I much prefer the opportunity and advancement of life today and my expectations for the future.

Well at least I saw it as it happened Trout. Don't think for a moment it was rose tinted. We were recovering from a dreadful war and the country was skint! The really big difference is the attitude of people to others. People felt it was their duty to think of others and to help out when troubles arose. Yes of course there were bad ones and they were out for the main chance, but that was nowhere near as prevalent. You felt you could trust others most of the time and people used to expect to like others until they proved they were not worth it rather than start off with animosity towards a stranger.

Yes most leaders will think they are right in what they do, but so many will cheat and lie now to achieve their ambitions. Hitler was pretty advanced in that respect! At least we gave him what for!

MPs were people whom the people respected and also felt that they were honourable characters. Attlee's govt. just after the War did so much for the people and all for the right reasons. All that started to change to what we see now when that slimy creep Wilson was in charge. Politics seems to have gone downhill since then.

We made the same mistake with Amin as we did with Mugabe. But look at what they personally did and what Mugabe is still doing! Not to forget all the other dreadful happenings in Africa. Its a terrible problem and how can the people sort it out for themselves?

I think that what is happening now is that we have a different style of politician who is more interested in his own advancement rather than that of the people of the country concerned and who will do all he can to remain in power and thus the good of the country is of little importance compared with his own ambitions. They seem to be prepared to use us these days. The old politicians were honest men whose mantra was to improve the lot of the people who elected them.

Modern politicians appear to be largely under the power of the whips and in the large will vote exactly as their leaders tell them and take all the benefits they are accorded in exchange. The laws which appear now either come from the Eu or are announced by the ruling cabal without even recourse to the House any more. What kind of democracy is that?

We are heading towards a situation where we will no longer have any say in our own lives.

Les
