Hi Bren,

The replacement rubber top mounts & camber bolts arrived this morning. Thanks to Kev for his advise for swapping the parts over. The adjustable top mounts are boxed and ready to send back to you.

Suspension will be fitted next week. Big question is what else should I consider fitting at the same time? Car is a MY02 STI and already has uprated rear ARB & drop links. I'm thinking to fit an ALK while all the alignment is being done but can't really find any subjective reviews to say if it's really worth doing or not??? Comments welcome!

Thanks for the excellent service from everyone at Apex.

Just a heads up guys, you might want to check you have been sent the right kit ie WRX or STi.

Just gone to have mine fitted and I have been sent the wrong ones, Apex is of course sorting it out for me but might be worth making sure.

Thanks to the staff at Apex for helping me today.

They are very good.

I have done two track days on them now, and can't really fault them at all.

I have the 5/4 spring rate, and put them on the hardest setting at Snetterton, and i found it pretty much perfect.

Although for regular track use i'd probably suggest the 6/5 springs, and run on 25-26 on the settings.

I personally havent any experience of running the ALK. We have one KCA359 ALK kit in stock. Retail £157.38, I can do it with a 20% discount if its of interest to anyone?

Its very rare for us to get a WRX and STi mixed up. All my staff are fully aware of the differences so its an oddity for you to be sent the incorrect parts. We look into every mistake we encounter to find out exactly whats gone wrong and where but sadly theres no 'paper trail' with your order so we cant verify why the kit was incorrect. Something to do with it being an 06 car I assume but I cant comment further than that.

My staff are fully versed with asking for year of the vehicle and, if its an 05 or later, then asking if its WRX or STI and verify 5x114.3 pcd if STi. Thats standard practice. As such we are a bit stumped as to how your car slipped through. Its not like she could have selected the wrong kit in our system by mistake because Louise is so well versed with the Imprezas that she knows all the part numbers off by heart so doesnt need to serach for various Impreza coilover kits in order to select the correct one. She just enters the part number directly into the order form.

Darks problem was down to me but Im an idiot and should never be let near anything involving anything, thats given! :wack:

Anyhoos, the correct bottom mounts are on their way, you should recieve them tommorrow

No worries Bren, if you look on my orginal post (post No 9) it does say WRX but the car is there for a couple of days anyway as it is having a load of other work done at the same time.

Thanks for sorting it so quickly, do you want me to send you back the STi bottom mounts?

Bren, one more questions....

Are the coilovers pre-set for ride height?
If yes, how does the preset height compare to stardard height?
If I'm adjusting the ride height, how should I measure it and how should I ensure that the front & rear match given that the struts are different lengths?

Thanks, Mark

I just want to to understand that these things are taken seriously, we dont brush problems away. We do attempot to trace back any issue thats raised right back to the root and if necessary rejig systems and procedures to prevent it happening again.

Yes, please send back the lower mounts. You should have a returns form. We will refund appropriate carriage costs. You should have no problems sending them Special Delivery through the Post Office for less than a a tenner

They arent preset, you need to set them to meet your preferences.

That was a slow delivery but better late than never

Mr J,

We dont have stock of the ER Series for the GC8 but the normal lead time is only 10 working days. It takes a little longer for the ER Series than the normal kits as theres more to them and theyre a little more specialised.

Be warned though that the factory have just (as in today) started to relocate to a new factory so they will be closed for the remained of this week and will have a backlog of work the beginning of next so this will introduce an additional delay if you were to order in the next 5 days.

Was thinking about the ride height thing my self the other day. As when I fit them with the ARBs I am going to get it set up with prodrive geo settings

Mine are BR 5/4 for the classic
Any suggestions for a good middle ground ride height as a start point for these anyone?
(Initaly for fast road work)

Ta
Steve

Moley If you see this - what ride height are yours set at?

Anybody no what sort of ground clearance do you need underneath to clear most speed bumps? Don't want to risk damaging the the underneath of the engine or the exhaust at the back.

This might be a stupid question with a simple answer but here goes;

I've fitted my suspension but want to lower the ride height, is there anyway of doing this without taking the suspension off the vehicle?
As far as i can see the hub is going to get in the way of spinning the bottom part of the coilover so therefore i'm going to have to pull the entire strut out? Is this right?

you should just be able to use the C spanner to lower the platform down?

Bren, have you anything in stock suitable for an STi5 Type RA? Mainly road use, occasional track.

Thanks

You can loosen the lower locking collar, grab the main damper body and wind it into the bottom mount. Or use a C spanner on the spring platform to wind the damper assembly into the bottom mount. If you want a large ride height change then it will be easier to just unbolt the bottom mount from the hub.

We have 1x set of 4/3kg.mm, 15x sets of 5/4kg.mm and 5x sets of 6/5kg.mm in stock. I would go for 5/4kg.mm for a road car that does occasional track.
