jumpy idle and simtek ecu

Had a couple of Simtek equipped cars idling perfectly smoothly at lambda 1 this week. I can see where a mapper could fall down on this but it is easy to sort to get it smooth as anything. Personally I am very impressed with the stability of this and when the full closed loop idle upgrade comes it can only improve.
The closed loop responsiveness can be adjusted.

Cant wait for mine to be done, MOT map and full power map, waiting for these pesky updates though, about March now? I think Simtek is mint, just this only issue to get passed and I'm laughing!

Thanks Si2000, sure hope so.
Dont worry happy dude, just make sure you're getting the new firmware updates for your simtek (which includes closed loop idle) - it's a dam good ecu for the money.

I had same problem with idle goin up and down and sometimes cutting out and poor starting. Car used to start on half a turn of key, then after simtek fitted it took about 4-5 seconds. I cured all these problems by removing my icv and givin it a good clean and a bit of fine adjustin. As for the knock control, my mapper mappped the knock into the check light, so if the engine detects any unusual noise the eng check light flashes, If this is what you are talking about regarding knock.

i used to have a starting problem on my simtek until i worked out how to get it to start like it used to.
i have 740cc injectors and a fpr fitted. when starting from cold i always turn on the ignition on and off a couple of times (until i hear the fuel pump stop) before trying to start to pressure up the fuel, when i do this it starts straight away.
i too suffer with eratic idle sometimes but never as bad as it cutting out, mine is the other way round.

What's the icv? I'll clean it, worth a shot.
I get poor idle when between cold and hot mostly, sometimes when warm also, and always when fan etc kick in. I also get cut out sometimes which is a pain (and dangerous when on roundabout). I also have to do the turn key twice and then she;ll start properly, never had that before though with oe ecu and same pump.

I had my simtek installed and mapped by Bob on a cold day. When the temperatures rose in the summer, the idle tended to fluctuate, particularly when the fan kicked in. I took the car back to Bob who performed a map tweek and all was fine - he explained that the way that fuel atomises differs according to ambient temps and the map just needed to be fiddled with to account for this. Problem sorted.
That said, my car does tend to idle on the high side (just a smidge below 1000rpm) So I'll be interested to hear of the update, which includes closed loop idle AFAIK and whether it's a software update that can be uploaded to existing ECUs or requires sending the ECU back to Simtek for a replacement etc...
Never had any issues with starting: as with the std ECU, the car fires up immediately if you just give the car a few seconds for the fuel pump to prime!

Anyone got any news on the simtek update? Dare I ask...
What's the IVC by the way? Happy to clean any sensor if it helps. I have to prime the pump completely twice to start first time, never had to before, was just once.

Not the ivc its the icv idle control valve on the manifold with the grey plug on top. Try slackening the 2 screws on the tps throtle position sensor and just moving it slightly either way once your car is up to temp, you will hear the idle change up and down and set it to 800rpm. Its quite a fine adjustment so just move it slightly either way untill your happy...
where in the south west are you..

Mine cuts as the inlet air sensor seems to heat soak at a stupid rate, and have no closed loop idle- it is really annoying, as well as danger- have stalled at countless junctions- I have the software and dongle, and I can see closed loop on the menu, but too scared to touch anything

The ICV clean has caused a few issues, firstly with idle revs stuck at 2000, then at 4000, seemed to of fixed that by clean around rubber gasket area and re-seat (its a new gasket). Now got idle that stalls all the time...I wonder if its because the new gasket hasn't expanded like the old one yet, so still has a few minor gaps?
When simtek release....pleaaaaaaaaasssssseeeeeeee.

There is not anything currently in the firmware for the closed loop that just needs turning on, it will be a firmware upgrade, if its free for a dealer then I guess it should be free to a customer apart from the time spent setting it up which obviously is a cost.
P1drifter that cost would probably relate either to als/launch enable OR the nitrous option which does require a firmware reflash.
All the other stuff is just entering beta testing, that was the update I rec'd last week.
best regards
bob

not known SimTek charge for firmware upgrades, including adding the ALS hardware to the very early boards that didn't have it.. just the cost of the licence to unlock the antilag etc which is 150+VAT.
Is it not the dealer charging you to sort the setup of the new features.
Which last time I spoke to SimTek (Tuesday) it wasn't quite finished yet.

So the chances of them having it by the 13th are slim then JGM is remapping mine then, as its becoming embarrassing to drive- it either stalls, or you have to keep revs well up when starting or idling, so i look like Im racing everywhere.

the quote was specifically for being able to have launch control. Had ALS already but got the simtek when launch wasnt available. As far as im aware it is just a firmware update, thats from steve simpson
