OK, next question: my car has the level control done elctrically, will it still work?
And if not, do the headlights level in the same way as they usually do, ie: by screws behind them, or do they have to be demounted, set and remounted, until satisfactory?

Thats a question for 'Darms' his has self leveling motors. Mine adjusted with the leveling screws, which move the reflector unit. It's probably worth sourcing a spare pair of JDM lights then you can leave yours on the car while you do the retrofit. Unless you want to keep the self-leveling gadgetry!!

Ok, question from the scooby newbie.
I have a classic first gen impreza (96) and one headlamp has a chipped glass so looking to either
1) replace with the same
2) as the standard lights are a bit poo I could upgrade them.
So, I notice the glass on the modded lights is clear so would I need to get these type first to mod?
I like the standard look so a bit reluctant to go for premade lights that are a bit chintzy

E-bay, or breakers.
Your choices are: buy ONE light to match yours, (be careful, they changed shape around 96), or buy a PAIR of the crystal ones from a 99-00 car and do the HID thingy.........but do it properly, no H4 bulbs, please
If going for the crystal ones, try and get OE Scoob ones, they fit, and match better.

cheers, just to be clear 99-00 lights fit 96 model car, plug and play?
not had car long so on the steep learning curve, so apologies for lots of questions that probably have the answers somewhere here.
No worries on the NOT fitting H4 Hids, a couple of mates fitted them to their bike headlights, nice and bright but still ****e as light scatters everywhere.

yes, the later lights will fit, but be aware that the SHAPE changed around that year, so you MAY need a different grille to make them blend properly, although lots don't bother.
Also, watch out for manual and electrical adjusters. my 98 car has electrical, as did all the 99-00 cars, but they are still adjustable manually.

I just need to be able to afford the projectors.
Since I decided to do it, the £ has gone down mightily against the $, (Most kits come from the USA), and the supply of projectors from crash repairers has got more difficult
I WAS looking at £300, now I'm looking at £400.

If anyone fancys doin a conversion like this for me i would happily pay? Would like a complete job done, with bi-xenons (thats high and low beam in the one projector unit if im thinking right??) and HID kit all included....if anyone fancies doing it for a bit of cash i have a set of genuine 99 crystal headlights ready to go....

I don't like the angel eye bit and the three little lights on the left, but it looks like there is a projection style lamp, which I guess is main beam.
The price of about £150-£170 for a pair (including lamps) is considerably less than buying kits from the US, and you will just swop headlights keeping car downtime to a minimum.

An OEM projector retrofit will give you far superior light output with excellent cut off. Check out hidplant.com for more info on projector retrofitting.
Never looked back after doing mine

this is my second version of the projector retro fit
i,ve noticed a few comments on the costs of doing this so i,ve just added mine up.
D1S bulbs £40.00 each - 4 required
D1S ballasts £45.00 each - 4 required
projectors £70.00 per pair - 2 sets required
shrouds £45.00 per pair - 2 sets required
donor headlights £100 each - 2 required
total cost of parts £770.00
if you add in my design, manufacturing & fitting time (approximately 7 - 8 hour days @ £15.00 per hour) plus the costs of the materials & plasma cutting of the mounting brackets this puts another £940.00 on the bill.
this looks very expensive but i did it all myself, enjoyed doing it, and i am well pleased with the results.
i keep asking myself is there another blobeye in the uk with this modification? if not then it makes even pleasing.
