So it will only be altered between the time it was changed with the engine running, until when the motor is shut down i.e. what you've been experiencing!
Yeah... lol... you're right joz... I wish that I could figure out how to get the ignition down nicely though, such that i only decrease it maximum in areas that really need it and other areas can stay up or at base level or something...

...Ah well, you'll just have to do a crash course in mapping then.

Seems that way joz, hopefully I can make it safely. I did a bit more testing yesterday... being very careful to monitor the knock and make sure it's within that 20 - 30 safe range that Simon talked about.

I increased the injector value to make it a little richer, took it to 1.050 while leaving the ignition untouched. The knock peaked at 25 during the day. I was very happy with this... Later in the night with the colder denser, lean friendlier air I got a peak of 41 at around 5 or 6000 RPM in 4th gear. I had recently hit a pot hole and ran over some bumpy road so wondered if that had something to do with it. I reset that value and it didn't peak there again. I'll try to recreate that situation again(on smoother road) and see if it really was that.

Any thoughts on the fuel "richening" without ignition retardation. I'm going to try it also with that injector value and bring the ignition up from -5 towards 0 and see if there is change.

Yeah, well richening the fuel will obviously be safer for the engine hence 25 knock value. But it will also reduce power, so yeah, try experimenting with ign. adv. (within a safe max knock limit), to try to claw back any lost power through the richening.

Yeah joz... it's gonna be a slow process especially slow because I'm a total noob and totally scary cuz it's MY scoob... But I believe I can get it done... just need some decent pointers is all...

I got a friend that studied tuning too that's willing to assist, but he needs to work with a laptop interface and has never worked with a Power FC before, as such we're gonna look into getting that datalogit. It's pretty much going to be a learning experience for the both of us, especially because the majority of people here are surprisingly NOT into tuning, so work for him has been hard to come by. So hopefully with a little knowledge, a little common sense, and a bit of guidance and pointers we'd be able to make it.

Looking to increase the ignition a bit. Would love to know if tuners in the UK increase the ignition after they up the fuel or if they leave it on 0 and turn up the boost or something... not sure.... As Simon had suggested turning it down.... I dunno. A bit stomped on this one. Hopefully he can give me a few more pointers even though his knowledge isn't necessarily free.

As you said joz... the next step is to try playing with the ignition a bit... hopefully I can get a little more out of her. However the car DOES feel much better with the extra fuel and no ignition adjustment than it did on just the base map with everything default.

Will see what else I can do.............. safely....

What you can do is graph monitor rpm and knock, then do a full pull through the gear you saw knock in, when it happens again pause the graph and guestimate the rpm the knock appears at. Then go to the map tracer function, then do a full pull through the same gear, then you can see the cells that the map used on that pull. Then you can change the timing in the cells in and around the rpm level you saw knock.

Yep, as Jay has said, that's what you need to do... Thus addressing only the areas of the map the NEED optimising (and NOT compromising areas that don't need adjusting.)
