My old car this, built with no compromise by Steve Guirey (SMG). The heads with cams, porting, valve seat cutting, sti v4 valves with top hat shims and verniers to build new would cost over £2,000 and are good for over 9,000rpm.

So can I suggest that whoever offered £400 for the whole engine has tried to take the pi$$.

The rods alone cost over £900 and were special order from Arrow. If 3 of them have survived, arrow still have the drawings for the special order, so possilble to order 1 to make up a full set.

Pistons were JE - so only one to buy.

Crank was 2.5l spark eroded and cross drilled, not sure if it has been scored though.

Basically there are some top end parts here if anyone is looking to build a 2.33 at a fraction of the cost. All that is needed is a few parts, a block and some machining.

Hello, started stripping the engine down today, the heads are perfect, as are the cams and pulleys, the crank is not so good, but the mechanic reckons the valves should be fine as there is no marking on the piston.

I've taken a load of photos for you to draw your own judgement. Let me know if you require any others.

I am open to all offers on parts!!

Arty looking Photos of the crank - tricky little bugger to take photos of from the bottom!!

Hi Rob

I'm after the centre console, the bit that goes round the gear stick and the cage and stuff where the stereo goes in and cig lighter plus ashtray.

Mines a 97 V3 though so not sure if they are the same. If still available can you send me a picture to see if they are the same ?

I last saw this engine in about 2006, the engine had an early centre thrust 48mm big end 2.5 crank custom Arrow con-rods to suit the smaller 48mm big end. The heads were of a nice spec but had std V4 sti valves. The customer competed with the car in the Isle of Man and had some great success and due to some great driving got himself an article in the motoring news. The car had a std sump unbaffled, looking at that rod it has seen excessive heat due to big end failure which in turn has caused the rod or rod bolt to fail whichever came first. Probable cause oil surge or fuel surge. Oil surge would cause lack of oil to the big end resulting to the failure and fuel surge could cause the motor to run lean, this would cause detonation and this has a hammering effect on the big end bearing which in turn causes the bearing shell to lose its tension in the con-rod, the bearing can spin in the con-rod and the big end will fail. If the motor is not shut down straight away the rod bolt or con-rod can fail.
