Why Panesar
Can anyone say why Panesar has been selected? His last 8 matches have apparently produced 9 wickets in total, with figures of 1 for 81 and 1 for 79 in his last two spells.

from the BBC.... and they NEVER lie
"Australia may be going well but the England innings had greater mathematical allure, as measured by the relationship between the mean average of runs scored off the bat per batsman (36.09) and the median average (35). This is the closest the median and mean have come since a Test in Lahore in 1962 when there was only a 0.81 difference; had Monty Panesar obliged and been out for minus eight, we would have had the thrill in Cardiff of an absolutely identical mean and median and the Ashes would really have started with a bang."

Pontificating
The pitch is falling apart, Jimmy will swing both ways and they'll follow on, well that's what I've been telling the locals
I'd take 400 right now, which imo (which is usually wrong) will be a good score. I can see Broad getting some ***** into their throats, Swanny and Monty should be using the cracks that are appearing, the pitch will be all over the place on day 4.
Lets hope my theory is correct

Although Ritz was getting hit for big numbers the ball was turning, when the sun came out Jimmy was was getting a bit of swing and had a really good spell after lunch, but no wickets to show for this. I give up.
I think my love of Cricket blinkers my analysis, there is no other sport where my team could lose say 20 matches straight and I'd still be equally excited about the next game, ECB Cricket does that to me. I'm ditching the theories and just watching the bloody game from now on
That said I think the Aussies will need to hit 650+ to stand any chance of beating us over 5 days, see I just cant help myself
I got a text last night saying, "Dont worry we'll hit a lazy 700" could be right lol

I still have hope, they have to bat last remember. We just need to get rid of these 2 and we'll have some momentum, I honestly think they are scared of Freddie (perhaps that's too strong a word but you get my drift) and I'm confident that despite the knockers Monty will come good.

I just don't rate this attack. Jimmy is good on his day, but he's no Hoggard. Broad is DEFINITELY no Jones And Harmy was a legend..........rated best in the world, until the England bowling coach got to him
Maybe they'll come good, but I reckon the Aussies will scrape this one.

At the beginning of the game I thought it looked a good bowling line up. However it has been totally hopeless with no penetration what so ever. They have no idea how to put pressure on a batsman and the field with the new ball this morning has been far too defensive. Having got rid of Katich they should be piling the pressure on with an attacking field and intimidate the new batsman.

FFS 12 runs off Broad's first over at a new batsman who hasn't even got himself in yet. That is exactly what I am talking about. Where was the pressure? Letting them get boundaries with so may loose ***** is very very poor cricket and pretty muc ruined any chance of putting pressure on him now.

It's not been good has it
Well it looks like rain is due so probably limited or no play today. Draw looks likely.
We need to take stock and review after this test, it hasn't been good from either bat or bowl. We're playing Australia not Holland (woops bad example) we need to raise our game and perhaps not take the risky shots it's not T20

Hmmmmmmmmmm...........still rate Monty?
And Strauss is NO Vaughan as captain
Aussies to take this series, with what is one of their weakest, most untried sides for an age.

Jimmy just needs to do a "Peter Such" and pad everything unless it's going to hit the stumps.
We just need to survive the day, pray for rain, pray for clouds, pray for a draw!

How bloody lucky can the convicts be? Every catch they go for they get and never drop even when they end up parrying them.
All over now. They will get hammered in this series as this has been a terrible performance with both bat and ball in this game. They just haven't got the players.

Fantastic end to the game and a real cliff hanger in the end and credit to Anderson and Monty for hanging in there. The fact remains we should never have been in that position in the first place and were totally out played. Why Ponting did not bowl his pace bowlers for the last 4 overs i'll never know, Siddle would have taken the last wicket with an in swinger against Monty i'm certain of it.
