Didn't Michael jackson, Madonna, and George Michael start in 80's? 
If they were, they made some good tunes for the era. There were some breakdancers in hideous harrem pants as well in 80's. They were quite entertaining for that time, methinks. I think Phill Collins was good for that time. U2 also knocked about then, didn't they? If they did, they are still legendary 
The Doors were ok but they hero-ised depressionism, drugs, and cr@p like that; even through their music. Thats not really damn kewl IMO. Did Hendrix belong to the same season? If he did, I have more liking for his talent than for The Doors.
I listen to no old tunes but one i.e. Dancing Queen from Abba on every Christmas. Was it 70's or 80's? Even if it was 40's, it is a very fantastic tune:
