My God, what has this country come too?
Anyone is entitled to ask to see a copper's warrant card and he must also wear his number as identification.
This whole occurrence was a shameful indication of what we can expect should the egregious bunch we have in charge ever achieve their ambition of total control of the people.
So many police seem to be more interested in politics rather than protecting the public!

BTW which 'many police' are you on about
I'll tell why this country is apparently in such a mess...people constantly moaning that the country is a mess, and posting up links to web sites that revel in 'the country is a mess' type stories
If it rains tonight, I'm pretty sure you'll find a reason to blame the government and/or their evil plans for mind control
Do I think this means the country is a mess, and run by politicians who have some kind of master plan?....err no to that as well.
Hey Martin,
I am completely with you about people moaning v. people doing something about it. However, I would love to see the basis on which you think it is reasonable to arrest two women for asking for police identification; for alleged breach of PACE; the justifcation of reasonable force.
There is no evidence here that these officers were threatened and yet they used choke holds, pressure point hold, multiple officers holding one person down, standing on someone, body cuff.
I can see all of this was necessary as the women were clearly a danger to society, themselves and the police. Indeed I am sure they probably had knives and guns hidden somewhere and probably needed to be cavity searched as well.
Get a grip man!

I've already said I complete disagree with the police action...that wasn't my point was it!!!
If you are doing nothing then you are at least as bad as us, if not worse.
I dont know how anyone can condone Police behaviour such as that.
I've had a slap from a couple of coppers when Ive been arrested. I wasnt resisting or fighting them, and I was cuffed behind my back on both occaisions, yet they still found the need to open every door we passed with my forehead, aided by a baton slotted inside my cuffs and running up my back to behind my ear. Nice. When I was booked in, I had "apparently" hit my head getting in the van. Funny that....
I am an estate agent and was wearing a suit on this occaision, so they could clearly see I wasnt some dosser/chav etc. Now the above got me riled, it was completely over the top, I wasnt drunk, but they treated me this way because they came round a corner, and saw me giving a lad a bit of a hiding because he and 3 of his friends decided they'd kick lumps out of my brother on the floor on his 18th, and decided they wouldnt review and CCTV till the morning, and held me over night.
In the morning they looked at the CCTV and saw I was telling the truth and released me, but the treatment I got was completely wrong, and I am not in the least bit surprised this sort of thing goes on.
How can they not display their numbers in public? I mean, surely someone higher up will see this, how can those coppers defend themselves? They are completely anonymous and they think this gives them a free reign, and allowing them to ignore the law (perhaps lack of knowledge?) in such a blatant way.
I think its disgusting. One rule for one.....

OK - I accept what you say. We should not moan about it. Of course the presupposition of your challenge is that we should do something rather than just moan. So if you disagree with the police action, what are you doing about it?

Just to deal with the hiding of PIN numbers. Under terrorism law (and before someone comes along with some LOL yes, "Extreme" protesting situation "Can" be classed as terrorism) the police are allowed to conceal they collar numbers for fear of protesters and other parties tracing them back to their home station and ultimately finding out where they live. This has happened on a number of occassions where "Extreme" activist have damaged and endangered the lives of serving police officers.
Why do protesters where sunglasses, matching black outfits and hoods. Simple to conceal who they are so when they get up to no good they can't be ID at a late date from police footage and arrested. There is no other reason for it.
What was the point of Climate Camp again!!! To stop North power station by any means required. So people causing criminal damage to fences, tresspassing and endangering lives by shutting down the power station is acceptable?? I think not.
There are better ways to protest.
I agree being held against your will for any period of time is unacceptable, but the "spin" put on this report is biased and missing key information. Assumptions made from this report are just that assumptions.
There are bad eggs in every barrel, but the majority of police officers do a good job.

What sort of a world are you living in where a few broken fences & bit of trespassing are equal to Terrorism

Time for a bit of this I think

Damage limitation nonsense, as far as i am aware people are allowed to wear sunglasses if they want!?!?!

Walter Wolfgang, anyone???????
The only reason you bring up the Wolfgang incident, which happened at least 4 years ago is because you can't think of another...thats because there are no others. Still don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant

It should be pretty obvious which "many police" I mean, those ones who behave like the ones that this thread is all about. Which ones did you think? How can you justify such actions, and what do you think it is leading to?
Did it occur to you that the people complaining about the country being in a mess are doing so because the country is in a mess?
It is a pity that you cannot see what is really happening, and what we are being led into by self seeking and power hungry people. I wonder how you will feel when we have lost our country to a corrupt organisation and when we no longer have any say whatsoever in how our own country is governed. Maybe you will be happier if you just carry on as you are so that you don't realise the danger until it is too late.

There aren't any others. Hmmm. Let's see.
Anti-terror law used to snoop on fishermen - Telegraph
"... Poole council used a covert surveillance team to gather evidence of shellfish being illegally gathered in Poole Harbour, Dorset. The snooping was carried out under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, which was originally intended for use in the fight against crime and terrorism but which has been used by some councils to clamp down on such minor offences as dog fouling ..."
Council spying: List of odd uses for anti-terror powers - Telegraph
"... Reasons given by councils for using anti-terrorism powers to spy on local people:
"establishing the identities of those taking fairy lights from a Christmas tree"
"illegal sale of shellfish"
"unauthorised internet access by staff"
"overcharging by taxi drivers"
"breaches of planning controls"
"dog fouling"
"littering"
"illegal employment of school-age children"
"surveillance to establish if a claimant's partner is living at an address"
"animal licensing"
"trespassing"
"changing the identity of cattle"
"working while off sick" ..."
Jacqui Smith's secret plan to carry on snooping - Times Online
"... SPY chiefs are pressing ahead with secret plans to monitor all internet use and telephone calls in Britain despite an announcement by Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, of a ministerial climbdown over public surveillance...."
Can't be ar5ed to find any others but you get the drift. If you haven't heard about any of these I'd take some time and read some newspapers/blogs/watch Tv news ..... maybe just talk to other people ...

And I suspect that they always will say this, it is of course unhelpful and destructive...ultimately it changes nothing...life carries on and people keep on moaning that the country is a mess...and round we go
It's conduct like this that cause the police to have a reputation right up there with Dog sh*t in the public's eyes.
All he had to do was give the woman his number and that whole situation could have been avoided.
All he had to do was give the woman his number and that whole situation could have been avoided.
Not all extreme protesters do this, but go and have a look at Fit watch it promotes "direct action" against police officers.
I don't agree with police going beyond their powers and acting like a bunch of *****, but doing the things this web site, the web site created and run by the two female "victims" is out of line.
You only have to watch this video (also from the Grauniad) to decide whether the police are bothering to follow the Peelian Principles such as "Every police officer should be issued a badge number, to assure accountability for his actions".
And whilst the police try their best to remain anonymous, they abuse the rights of innocent citizens by demanding (or at least planning to demand) to know their identity - see Police to check Brighton residents one by one in anti-terror plan.
Unless those in charge see sense, this is going to get really nasty!!

Yeah i have to say the footage doesn't exactly show the bigger picture so isn't really fair. We dont know how long the Soap Dodger was in the perticular area before this incident happened. So if she was a gobby cow like i suspect then its more than possible she had already pushed the coppers patience to the limit, yeah it was maybe a little heavy handed but still brings a broad smile to my face
I suspect than from the year 1066 (or before probably) people have been saying 'this country is a mess'!!
And I suspect that they always will say this, it is of course unhelpful and destructive...ultimately it changes nothing...life carries on and people keep on moaning that the country is a mess...and round we go

What else is a £Trillion national debt, the interest on which we have to repay of course, and all that money which they have printed a la Zimbabwe, but a mess when they run out of the borrowed money to keep making things appear good.
What will you say when inflation hits and the big tax increases and reduction in public spending start up?
Don't bother to say its not their fault after the way they have thrown our money and pensions to the wall for the last 12 years and flogged off our gold reserves so that we have nothing to fall back on! Open your eyes Martin!
