Hello,
the problem I think you might be having is simple to solve if I'm correct.
Look at were the wiper arm fits on to the spindle, it will be under a rubber cap, take this off and under neath you should see the large nut holding the wiper arm onto the spindle. Check that these are fully tightened up (use a socket & wrench not fingers ) as over time/use they can become loose and cause a knocking noise as you've described.
This happened on my classic and after a quick tighten up and a blob of thread lock the knocking was gone for good.
Hope that helps, Gareth

Have a look here (on the left) Windscreen Wiper Blades - Bosch, Valeo, Trico, Trupart, Champion Windscreen Wipers

Enter your make/model and you should get the blade sizes.

Hi

I currently have the Halfords blades and suffer from the same loud click problem when the blade changes direction at the top of the sweep on the driver’s side. It seems to come from the connection between the blade and the arm. This never happened on my Classic. I’ve tried tightening the connection and I also use Rain-X. Both had little effect.

I changed to the Halfords ones after using the Bosch wipers which would not follow the curve of the screen on the passenger side and so areas were left unwiped. Again, this did not occur on my Classic. It therefore seems part of the problem is screen design (I have the Hawkeye).

Perhaps I’ll give the PIAAs a try although, I’ve just realised in typing this that my problem may be solved by using a Halfords blade on the passenger side and the Bosch on the driver’s side!

Graham

PS Blade lengths on my Hawkeye are 22” and 17”

That's very strange, the Bosch ones wipe perfectly on my screen.

Is there any chance that the wiper arm isn't applying enough pressure to the blade?

Bought some aero blades off ebay last year. Anything above 90 they lifted off the screen . Took them off and fitted Bosch. They key seems to be keeping the screeen properly clean so the blade affects the screen as intended. Rain X is great. Will try the PIAA ones next.

Try clicking it properly into the arm

I'm going to throw my 2p's worth in here ......

LIDLs do Wiper Blades now and again, £3:99 and absolutely perfect ... that's £3:99 for a pair 22" and 19" I think that's the sizes. They last about 9 months then squeal a bit - I buy 2 sets whenever they are in stock, that way I have a pair hanging in the garage at all times.

No need to spend more in all honesty.

I first tried Bosch wipers 21 years ago and found they last a couple of months then start to judder across the screen (its caused by the metal frame on the wiper distorting). I tried em fer the second time 8 years ago, an there still s**t, Halfords own brand are better than Bosch so thats wot I use......

The problem with the Bosch on the passenger side was that the arm did not have enough "pressure twigs" (whatever they may be called) along the arm compared with the Halfords arm and so could not follow the contour of the screen. They were OK on the driver's side.

Looking at your Garage you appear to have a Classic which was never a problem for me. I guess the Hawkeye has a screen with much more curvature.

Scotty, I have tried refitting it several times including use of pliers to squeeze the connection to restrict movement without luck. However, I've just tried again, having put the Bosch wiper back on last night (no clicks ) only to find the plastic clip on the wiper was loose and not fully pressed home. I can't believe I hadn't spotted that before so am assuming it came loose when replacing the blade. I will check on the way home tonight and report back.

The noise stopped for me when I brought a set of flat aero blades from fleabay.

They look floppy but actually hug the curvature of the screen really well.

Haven't tried the PIAA but these purport to do a similar job, have them on my Accord Type-R and they do seem to work pretty well.

Sorry about the crummy video on the site!

Potential embarrassment over - Halfords blade still clicked when everything was fitted properly.

Anyone with a Hawkeye using the PIAA with total success?

I used to have PIAA's for a few years on various cars until I brought some cheapo aero blades on Ebay that work just as well for a fraction of the price.

The reason could well be that the PIAA Wipers are a rip-off?

Maybe LIDL's with their bulk buying ability can match the PIAA's at a minute fraction of the cost?

I think I'm probably spot-on ... again

The standard wipers on MY07 RB320, I found a little wanting!

Changed them for a set of Bosche Aero Blades, whih have lasted about 14-16 months.

Just priced up a set of Bosche AeroTwin blades for £15, when the dealer wanted £35!

The Aero's only miss on the top left 2'' x 6'' passenger of the screen.

The reason is the PIAA's last for years, LIDL ones as per your own info last 9months. Simple really, are you finding it hard to understand?

Spot on again my ***

How much are the PIAA's?

I really have no idea - what are we talking? £16 a pair?

That's 4 sets of LIDL's .... 4 x 9 months = 3 years.

If, by any mad bonkers chance, the PIAA's cost more than £16 then the LIDL's are even more of a bargain!
