400+ BHP QUESTION... ???
#32
As you say, lag/lack of drivability, is when you fall into that torque-less 'hole' when the turbo's spool point is mismatched to the gear ratios, for example....
I'm all for a bit of later spool trade-off if it means the gain is horizon-chasing thrust...

make sure you compare like for like when your looking at your options
IE don't compare a newage sti running a 321T to your wrx as you will get later spool
If I was you i would go with the smaller turbo but try running a fuel combination that gives you more top end
I ran a turbo that gave 1 bar at around 3.8k revs and I wouldn't want power any later than that on a road car
best bet for you is talk to zen as he will know what is best for you

I've done over 30,000 miles at this state of tune and the car still runs as sweet as a nut (Zen mapped). Moreover, a number of people such as JD and others who do run bigger turbos are making 450bhp quite comfortably and relieably too

MD321t is the way forward (biased of cause as I'm selling one ). The 321H is a 400bhp turbo. The 321t is a 450bhp turbo. I'm runing a 321t on standard internals (sti 8) at 410 bhp 340ft lbs (1.5 bar which most people would agree is very safe) and chrisdicko is running his 321t at 340bhp 370ft lbs (standard internals sti8). 400bhp was last year on standard internals, lol .
Yes the 321t does spool up slightly later, but when you change gear at 6500rpm does your engine drop below 4000rpm? From first hand experience I can confirm there is no lag on my 321t when I'm going through the gears (don't confuse later spooling with lag). All my opinion of cause. As Steve said your future proofing as well.

Other than that, he speaks the truth

May be worth having a chat with me regarding the S206 from Turbo Technics, it will breeze past 400hp on 97 ron fuel. On my 2.1 stroker during development it made 450+ @ 1.6 bar on Sainsburys 97 ron fuel with 420lbft to boot.
Running at this level it ran an 11.1 second 1/4 mile at Shakespeare at the weekend.

- Thanks Martyn.
Is it available through Enginetuner, or direct from TT. I take it it's a stock position turbo? Price?
Many other Imprezas running it?
- Steve
Thanks for digging it out - will read it through when have time...
